Dubai Conducts First Test Flight of Joby Aerial Taxi
Dubai has taken a major step toward introducing Aerial Taxi services.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Joby Aviation, announced the successful completion of the region's first Aerial Taxi test flight.
The test was conducted at a dedicated desert site in Dubai. Joby Aviation is a leading developer of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, reported that the flight reflects the UAE's leadership in adopting transformative technologies.
He noted that this milestone aligns with the strategic vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It also supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the UAE's sustainable development goals.
The aircraft demonstrated its performance in the local environment. Officials revealed that the test is part of daily operations preparing for the commercial launch of Aerial Taxi services.

The Joby Aerial Taxi is powered entirely by electricity. It features vertical take-off and landing, zero operating emissions, and low noise levels.
The aircraft includes six rotors, four battery packs, and seats for four passengers plus a pilot. It can reach a top speed of 320 km/h and travel up to 160 km.
The design is tailored for urban use, needing minimal space for take-off and landing at vertiports.
Officials also reviewed test facilities developed with Shamal Holding. These include a vertiport, flight monitoring hangar, and advanced electric charging stations.
JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby Aviation, and Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of the RTA Public Transport Agency, presented the project timeline.
It was revealed that commercial Aerial Taxi services are set to launch in 2026. Operations will begin near Dubai International Airport.
H.E. Mattar Al Tayer stated that the trial reflects Dubai's push for innovative and sustainable public transport.
He reported that the Aerial Taxi will offer premium, fast, and safe travel. A trip from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah is expected to take 12 minutes, compared to 45 minutes by car.
The system will integrate with existing transport modes like metro, e-scooters, and bicycles.
JoeBen Bevirt added that Dubai is a launchpad for global aerial mobility and a key partner in making clean, quiet aviation part of everyday life.
In early 2024, the RTA signed an agreement with the General Civil Aviation Authority, Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Skyports Infrastructure, and Joby Aviation.
This agreement positions Dubai as the first city globally to deploy Aerial Taxis through a complete VTOL infrastructure network.
The company confirmed that the testing in Dubai follows two years of flight trials at Edwards Air Force Base in the United States.
With more than 40,000 miles of test flights and multiple piloted transitions, Joby Aviation aims to make fast, clean, and accessible air travel a reality.

Dhs650m development project for Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary
In line with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to develop Dubai's natural reserves in alignment with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, Dubai Municipality has announced the awarding of the contract for the first phase of the Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary Development Project at a cost of approximately Dhs100 million, with the overall cost across two phases of the project estimated at Dhs650 million. The project aims to enhance biodiversity, preserve the sustainability of natural habitats and reinforce the sanctuary's position as a premier sustainable eco-tourism destination offering a unique and integrated experience that further enriches quality of life for residents and visitors alike. The development aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, especially its objective of placing Dubai among the world's top three destinations for tourism, with the city's exceptional quality of life and new investment opportunities that promise to boost the sanctuary's direct economic returns offering added impetus for the initiative. The sanctuary has been planned and designed based on the needs of both residents and tourists, aiming to deliver the best recreational and tourism experience that promotes a sense of connect with the environment while preserving the sanctuary's natural elements. The project, which is to be executed in two main phases, will bring about a qualitative shift in environmental sustainability in the emirate. Phase one will cover approximately 6.4 square kilometres of the sanctuary and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Dubai Municipality seeks to rehabilitate and improve mangrove habitats by planting new mangroves and increasing mangrove coverage by 60%, from 40 to 65 hectares. This will include the provision of new irrigation channels, rehabilitation of mangrove forests and creating new habitats such as the mangrove lake, North Edge Lake and reed ponds. A Green Spine will also be developed, and post-rehabilitation monitoring will be conducted regularly. Phase one also envisions a 144% increase in water bodies within the reserve, expanding their total area to 74 hectares, helping achieve major environmental benefits such as a 60% increase in carbon dioxide absorption. Additionally, 10 hectares of mudflats (salt flats) will be added, contributing to the sanctuary's ecosystem and biodiversity. Eng. 13,000 taxis operated by Franchise companies licensed by Dubai RTA now accept American Express payments
Dubai, United Arab Emirates — American Express Middle East (AEME) announces that more than 13,000 taxis in Dubai operated by Franchised companies licensed by Dubai RTA (National Taxi, Arabia Taxi, Kabi Taxi, Dubai Taxi Corporation, and Metro Taxi) are newly accepting American Express payments. The agreement with Franchise companies provides greater payment choice and convenience for both local and international American Express Card Members. It also increases the number of locations accepting American Express in the UAE, highlighting American Express' commitment to broadening acceptance options for local and international Card Members. Globally, American Express has tripled the number of accepting merchants since 2017, with more than 89 million locations worldwide1.
