"Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabiyat are with you": BJP leader Hobby Dhaliwal supports Diljit Dosanjh amid 'Sardaar Ji 3' backlash

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], June 28 (ANI): BJP leader and actor Hobby Dhaliwal has come out in support of Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh amid the ongoing controversy over his film Sardaar Ji 3, featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir.
Speaking to ANI, Dhaliwal expressed, 'Even before this, many artists from Pakistan have worked in India... We are in favour of Diljit Dosanjh... The stages where the world's biggest artists dream of performing, our Punjabi gabru, with a turban on his head, proclaims 'Punjabi aa gaye oye'. When he goes to the same stage with the tricolour in his hand, then our pride becomes even greater... Punjab, Punjabi, and Punjabiyat are with you, Diljit.'
The singer-actor has been facing a massive backlash for collaborating with a Pakistani artist, Hania Aamir, in his film 'Sardaar Ji 3'. The timing has added fuel to the ongoing controversy, as tensions between India and Pakistan remain high following the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
Sardaar Ji 3 was released in theatres on 27 June but was not released in India.
Meanwhile, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees had sent a letter to the makers of Border 2, urging them to cut all ties with Diljit.
'Your involvement risks sending a deeply conflicting message, especially given your influence as a director known for socially resonant themes...We, therefore, strongly appeal to you to reconsider your collaboration with Diljit Dosanjh and withdraw from associating with any artist who has been officially boycotted by FWICE. Upholding the dignity of our industry and the nation must remain paramount over professional or commercial interests,' the letter read. (ANI)

Actress AnnaSophia Robb, who starred as high school teacher Alice, wrote with a cast photo on her Instagram Story, "Damn. I will miss our GPGS family. Grateful and proud of all that we made together," as quoted by Deadline. 'That was also a struggle': Rainn Wilson on The Office after Steve Carell left

Washington DC [US], June 29 (ANI): Actor Rainn Wilson recently opened up about the difficulties filming 'The Office' after Steve Carell left the show in 2011, reported Variety. Rainn Wilson, who played Dwight Schrute, discussed his experience working on the comedy series for nine seasons with podcast hosts Josh Peck and Ben Soffer. 'The Office' co-star admitted in the interview that it was challenging for the cast and production to continue the show after they lost their leading man, reported Variety. "When Steve left, then it was a little bit chaotic of trying to figure out the tone of the show and who's the lead and, how are we telling these stories without, you know, the comic engine of the show, which is Michael Scott, and without one of the greatest comic actors in American history at the center of our show. That was also a struggle." Wilson explained, as quoted by Variety. However, Wilson shared that Carell's departure didn't surprise him or their other cast members because he was "such a big movie star at the time", hence making it evident for him to exit, reported Variety. Once Carrell left 'The Office,' he starred in several films including 'Crazy, Stupid Love.,' the 'Despicable Me' franchise, 'Hope Springs' and 'The Way Way Back.' According to Variety, Carell received extensive critical acclaim for portraying Michael Scott in the NBC series. During his six years on the sitcom, he was nominated six times for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series at the Emmys, reported Variety. The series continued for two seasons without Carell before ending in 2013, in which he made a surprise return as Scott in the series finale. However, a new iteration of 'The Office,' called 'The Paper,' has been picked up as an upcoming mockumentary series set to debut on Peacock in September, reported Variety. (ANI)
