PS Plus Essential August 2025 reveal time, predictions and when you can play the PS5 and PS4 games
The PS Plus Essential games for August are soon to be unveiled, and enthusiasts have a fair inkling of what might be included.
PS Plus gamers are coming down from quite the high, given their last release was rather significant. The PS Plus Extra and Premium July 2025 announcement not only confirmed that Abiotic Factor (which also featured in the second Xbox Game Pass July drop) and Planet Zoo were incoming, but it also stunned players by unexpectedly adding Cyberpunk 2077 to the mix. This surprise addition caused quite a buzz, as gamers either revisited or discovered the game for the first time, making it a memorable release.
The Essential side has also been delivering, with the PS Plus Essential July 2025 games announcing the inclusion of Diablo 4 to mark the service's anniversary. As the PS Plus Essential August 2025 games draw near, fans are eagerly speculating about the potential additions to the service.
Frequent correct predictor u/aristotlepoetics has taken to the PS Plus Essential August 2025 Reddit predictions thread, suggesting that the remake of Resident Evil 4, Topspin 2k25 and Cocoon could be added to the service. This could potentially create an incredibly impressive lineup, particularly as Resi 4 has established itself as top-tier quality in Capcom 's fantastic franchise revivals, and Cocoon is one of the most immersive, peculiar and captivating worlds that indie games have managed to craft in recent years.
However, we won't know what's coming until the drop arrives, which fortunately isn't too far away. Here's the PS Plus Essential August 2025 reveal date.

PS Plus Essential August 2025 reveal date
The PS Plus Essential August 2025 reveal date is scheduled for Wednesday, July 30 at 8.30am PDT / 11.30am EDT / 4.30pm BST. We know this because the PS Plus Essential games for any given month are announced on the last Wednesday of its preceding month, before being released on the following Tuesday, which in this case is Tuesday, August 5.
The upcoming PS Plus Essential games have the potential to make a significant impact, especially after such a substantial Extra and Premium drop. We're keeping our fingers crossed that these predictions turn out to be accurate, even if there are few opportunities for us to play Topspin. But as they say, never say never.

Outlander's Caitriona Balfe says 'I never thought we would have to say goodbye' in emotional post
Outlander will come to an end with the eighth and final series in 2026 Outlander season eight has been confirmed to air in "early 2026" as Starz made an announcement on Instagram. Reacting to the teaser trailer which highlights how far Claire and Jamie Fraser have come since they first met in season one, Caitriona penned an emotional message. Sharing the poster for the final series on her Instagram story, Caitriona posted: "Wow. I never thought we be so lucky to get this far... and now that we have I never thought we would have to say goodbye... what a journey... what a story. "Thank you to Diana, the fans, our crew, fellow cast and our writers and producers... everyone at Sony and Starz... here is our final poster." The teaser for season eight will no doubt satisfy fans as it recaps the most important moments from Claire and Jamie's love story. Claire can be heard narrating: "Time is marked and measured in different ways. Nothing can stand against time. Not mountains, not armies." Jamie then replies: "Time doesn't matter, Sassenach… To see those years touch you gives me joy, for it means that you live." The title for the teaser reads: "Every promise, every sacrifice, every moment has led to this." However, one detail that will no doubt have caught the attention of fans is Jamie's declaration he will soon die. In the two and a half minute clip, he tells Claire he has read her late husband Frank Randall's book and it reveal war is coming in the backcountry. In a further blow, he reveals: "War is coming to the backcountry and that James Fraser dies in it." Fans will know from the novel, Go Tell The Bees That I Am Gone, that Frank's book was posthumously and details the Battle of King's Mountain. Jamie and Claire had previously been reported to have died in a fire but it turned out to be a mistake. Fans will be hoping Frank's book also holds a mistake and Jamie will survive with Claire. Reacting to the teaser, one fan posted: "Can't believe THAT scene is coming to our screens in 2026… God, Claire Fraser help us all." Another added: "They better get their happily ever after or so help me God," as a third penned: "I don't think I took a single breath while watching this reel. I can't believe this is really coming to an end."

'I spent months trolling influencers in Reddit hate forums – now I feel ashamed'
After Irish YouTuber Adam MacIntyre was reported to ICE by his snark subreddit while touring the US, Reddit shut them down. But his story is just the very tip of the iceberg. Hiding in plain sight are some of Reddit's most toxic communities, created with one sole and explicit purpose: to spread hate. Known as 'snark', these forums range in size from hundreds to literally thousands of members, all anonymous, who congregate to make derogatory posts. The subjects in question? They range from minor influencers to full-blown pop stars, with some of the better-known names including TikTok beauty star Mikaela Noguiera, singer Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift. Currently, r/travisandtaylor, aka "The Snark Sub', is one of the largest, with over 158K members. Their raison d'etre, according to the description, is to 'roast and criticize Taylor Swift's PR stunts (looking at you, Travis), her questionable ethics, and the never-ending antics she wants fans to (literally) buy.' They even have an ominous warning in place for any stray Swifties: 'If you're here to defend Mother, you've come to the wrong place.' 'I gambled away thousands from my student loan before I started university' Some of the top-voted posts over the past month have run down her fashion, her choreography and, in particular, the star's relationship with Travis Kelce, which they commonly believe is a calculated PR move. And while some topics could be considered worthwhile discussions, like Taylor Swift's political stances, others are a little more petty. For example, a recent post shows a clip of Taylor Swift dancing with Travis at the US Open Final with a drink in her hand. Comments claim Taylor is "spiralling" or claim she's an "alcoholic", all of which she's never confirmed. But who are the contributors? And why do they do it? A 'snarker', who wishes to remain anonymous, tells The Mirror that they have posted previously on the Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce snark subreddit. They also used to visit another influencer's snark. They first came across it about two years ago, but admit they've been reading more lately over the past six or seven months. 'I don't check it often,' they say. 'It just sometimes appears on my algorithm and I read it. Sometimes I even comment about it.' They tell us that they have posted once before but 'it wasn't a healthy move to do it', adding: 'I know everyone makes mistakes and the most we can do is learn from it. I know not everyone who does it has thought about how it can be truly damaging.' For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. Although, there are some bad players who are aware of the impact of their actions. They say: 'I think that snark can do harm when it's intended to do so. Some people have their own pain and want these people to hurt themselves.' A second former snarker, who has also remained anonymous, agrees that this behaviour often comes from a place of hurt. Now 29, they say they used to be an avid reader of a snark subreddit dedicated to YouTuber Trisha Paytas: the now-banned r/Trishyland. The subreddit became known for coming up with wild conspiracies about the YouTuber and mother-of-two, who formerly co-starred on the 'Frenemies on the H3 Podcast' YouTube channel. A popular theory spread on the subreddit was that she was faking her pregnancy. 'I would read it daily, sometimes multiple times a day,' the snarker says. 'Honestly, I had no real motivation. I started watching H3 when Frenemies was going on and the downfall of the show was obviously very interesting with lots of updates. From there it was interesting to keep up with negative updates about her.' They fell further down the rabbit hole, explaining: 'I was really into hard drugs at the time and my life started falling apart and my interest was fizzling out. Then she had her first baby and I think that made me step away 100%. I honestly was on the 'she's faking her pregnancy' train but once I learned that wasn't the case, I couldn't 'enjoy' hating a mother.' However, they share that they haven't fully lost the compulsion to check on hate-centric subreddits. 'Now the 'r/weddingshaming' subreddit comes across my Reddit home page fairly often and I read the posts when I see them." 'Part of the appeal comes from reading a group consensus that someone is in the way it makes you feel like a morally superior person. One, because you're not doing the 'shameful' thing. Two, you are doing the work' of 'educating' yourself on what 'society' things is right/wrong.' Though, they add that it's difficult to fully explain the appeal of snark because 'snark is nonsensical'. What happens when it goes too far? Irish content creator Adam MacIntyre recently spoke out online about his experience with his own now-banned snark subreddit (r/AdamMacIntyreSnark) – after they reported him to ICE. The incident happened after the Derry-born YouTuber began his Chronically Online Tour in the US. Prior to its beginning, he posted a picture of his O-1 visa to X, expressing his excitement. O-1 Visas are temporary work visas granted to those who have demonstrated extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics, or have a record of extraordinary achievement in the motion picture or television industry. However, in late June a member of r/AdamMcIntyreSnark reposted the image on the subreddit with the caption 'Someone Posted About Visas'. Users then appeared to misread the 'R' on the image as indicating an R-1 visa, which is intended for those conducting religious work. This led to accusations that he had received the visa fraudulently – with a commenter even sharing a screenshot of a report they had sent to ICE asking for Adam to be deported. Adam came onto his YouTube channel to discuss the situation. He said: 'When it comes to snark I will usually put my hands up and allow people to do what they're doing, because I don't want to criticise how people talk about people – even if that person is me… But there's something truly disgusting about weaponising ICE against people.' A statement was also released across Adam's social media channels on Monday July 7 explaining that he had 'initiated a formal legal investigation' in response to the activities related to the snark page. The subreddit has since been taken down. A Reddit spokesperson told The Mirror that harassment and bullying have no place on Reddit and that their rules explicitly prohibit this behaviour. This includes real-world harassment and actions that would threaten a person's safety. They said that, from their investigation, it appears that the behavior was limited to one user account that has since been deleted. The spokesperson added that they will continue to monitor their platform for violating behavior and take action where appropriate.

Rom-com fans debate which iconic movie couples would NOT stand the test of time
If you're a fan of rom-coms, you know that no matter how many laughable ups and downs happen to the protagonists of the movie, they always end up together. At least until the credits roll. But what about after the big, romantic gesture and professing of their love? What happens post-boom box, after kissing in the rain? Well, some Redditors have a few theories. And according to them, many of your favorite iconic rom-com couples do not make the cut in the future. Whether from lack of real compatibility or simply the fact that they never took the time to really get to know each other, Reddit users are convinced that some of your favorite movie characters wouldn't have happy endings if they continued their story lines five or 10 years into the future. Here are the popular rom-com couples that fans believe would have definitely broken up down the road. The Devil Wears Prada: Andy and Nate In the beloved 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada, Anne Hathaway's character Andy's relationship was put to the test as she struggled to balance her intense magazine job and her romance. While they ended up working it out in the movie, Redditors felt Andy and her boyfriend Nate, played by Adrian Grenier, would not stand the test of time. 'The boyfriend and all her friends were trash, give her the damn year she needs to get her career off the ground,' one Reddit user wrote. 'OMG, HE SUCKED,' another agreed. And now, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in the works and it's been confirmed that Nate's character does not return, so it seems that this prediction is pretty accurate. Knocked Up: Alison and Ben The 2007 movie Knocked up followed journalist Alison Scott (played by Katherine Heigl) who got pregnant after a one-night stand with slacker Ben Stone (portrayed by Seth Rogen). And if you thought that two people being forced together after dealing with the consequences of a one-night stand wouldn't work out, you're not alone. Redditors added Alison and Ben to the list of rom-com couples that wouldn't last, mostly because of the disproportionate levels of ambition in this coupling. 'I think there's a path to them working out, and it involves Seth Rogen's character cutting back on weed, becoming an amazing stay at home dad, and fully supporting her career,' one Redditor wrote. 'Basically anything else? Nope!' Pretty in Pink: Andie and Blane The original ending to the 1986 flick Pretty in Pink saw Andie, played by Molly Ringwald, end up with her longtime best friend Duckie, played by John Cryer. But when this ending didn't resonate well with audiences, they decided to reshoot and have her end up with the rich kid, Blane, portrayed by Andrew McCarthy. Well years later, people on Reddit have claimed that this was the wrong choice, and agreed the pairing would not have lasted. 'I never understood why she even liked him in the first place,' one Redditor wrote. 'Definitely a summer romance vibe. They both go to college and it fizzles out,' another predicted. Garden State: Sam and Andrew The love story of Andrew Largeman (played by Zach Braff) and Sam (played by Natalie Portman) in the 2004 rom-com Garden State captured audiences. But Redditors now feel that Andrew was not good enough for Sam and suggested that she dumped him in the years after the movie. 'She gets a therapist, figures out her meds, and realizes she can do a lot better,' one Redditor suggested. 'He continues to date 22 year old manic pixie dream girls.' 'He's still out there interviewing 21 year olds for the job,' another chimed in. A Cinderella Story: Sam and Austin Although in the original Cinderella fairytale they live happily ever after, Redditors don't believe that was the fate that came for Sam and Austin in the 2004 retelling A Cinderella Story. Starring Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray, it followed a teen who accidentally gets involved in a romantic text relationship with an anonymous boy from her school due to a mix-up. When she realizes it's the coolest boy in school, she flees from the school dance and he sets out on a hunt to discover her true identity. 'My headcanon is that these two were the couple that everyone dealt with in their friend group in late undergrad or post-college,' one user on Reddit offered. 'They had a messy breakup senior year that neither gets over. She wanted to leave Los Angeles and he wanted to move back and be like a pretentious screenwriter or something. 'They still insist that they're better off apart while remaining codependent on the other. It makes their entire shared friend group wildly uncomfortable.' How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days: Andie and Ben How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days followed journalist Andie Anderson (played by Kate Hudson) as she purposely did the absolute worst things someone can do in a relationship as a test for a magazine article while dating Ben Berry (played by Matthew McConaughey). But he is forced to stick it out thanks to a bet he made. And naturally, they both fall for each other despite their secret intentions. While there's no doubt that Andie and Ben had tons of chemistry in the flick, fans are not convinced that they would've gone the distance long-term. And a lot of this has to do with the fact that they spent a majority of the movie manipulating each other. 'They BARELY interacted with each other as their real selves, how the hell did they even knew they liked each other for real?' one user asked. 'They were both narcissistic a**holes that were just using each other the entire time, but somehow romance?' another questioned. 'No, that dude is a straight-up misogynist and she's just a horrible person.' High School Musical: Gabriella and Troy While the inner tweens of adults everywhere might be crushed by this one, Redditors are convinced that high school was the beginning and end of Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez from High School Musical. Many people on Reddit believe the couple, played by Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens respectfully, were just meant to just be high school sweethearts and nothing more. 'Yeah these two definitely end up as each other's 'messy high school relationship I look back at and laugh',' one user offered. One fan even cited each movie and the issues they faced as proof that they couldn't go the distance. 'He's probably gonna be in hella basketball practices and then has to maintain a GPA to stay on the team and his genius girlfriend isn't gonna be around to help. Na,' they said. 'They break up over freshman year thanksgiving break, get back together over the summer and break up for good sophomore year.'
