Kyle Clifford made ominous remark before family massacre; John Hunt recalls
BBC's John Hunt has broken his silence following the tragic murders of his wife, Carol, and daughters, Hannah and Louise, in their Hertfordshire home last July. Speaking publicly for the first time since the brutal crossbow attack, Hunt revealed a chilling remark and a subtle behaviour change that, in hindsight, may have signalled the deadly intent of the killer, Kyle Clifford, his daughter's ex-partner. In the recent interview with the BBC, Hunt, for the first time, opened up about the killer, the impact of the murder, and the 'turning point' he noticed in Louise and Clifford's relationship. He recalled a disturbing moment during a friend's wedding trip, where Clifford made a cruel jibe at Louise in front of other guests. After she struggled to use the oven the night before, guests asked about her job the next day, only for Clifford to cut her off with a belittling remark.
He quipped, 'One thing she doesn't do is know how to work an oven properly,' as reported by The Mirror. Lousie's former partner fatally stabbed Carol, raped Luise and then tried to kill the two sisters with the crosbow.

After the unfortunate incident, Hunt went through Clifford and Louise's texts, which showed signs of 'gentle manipulation.' However, there were no signs that things had turned abusive between them. Surviving sister Amy revealed to the BBC, 'At the point of Louise ending [the relationship], there was absolutely evidence that he had turned out not to be a nice person.'
She continued, 'But I want to put it very bluntly now. Did we have any indication that this man was capable of stabbing my mother, of tying Louise up, of raping Louise, of shooting Louise and shooting Hannah? Absolutely not.'
Amy added, 'He's often been referred to as 'crossbow killer' and 'crossbow maniac' - but that takes away from the very real issue we know to be true. He was just a person, just a man... who went to the gym, had a family, had a relationship, watched TV. I know it sounds crass, but we often say we wish we'd had some hint that he was capable of this."
In his powerful victim impact statement, John Hunt directly labelled Clifford a 'psychopath,' confronting him in court with the full weight of his words.

Norwegian tourist says he was detained for ‘JD Vance meme', US says drug use, not politics, caused ban
A 21-year-old tourist from Norway, Mads Mikkelsen, says he was held for five hours at Newark Airport by US Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) over a meme on his phone showing US Vice-President JD Vance with a bald head. The US authorities, however, say he was denied entry due to admitted drug use. After returning to Norway, Mikkelsen told the local paper Nordlys and the BBC that USCBP officers questioned him about drug use, terrorism, and extremism. He said they asked him to unlock his phone and threatened him with a $5,000 fine if he refused. He told the BBC: 'The agent seemed to be very antagonised by the image. He asked me why I had it saved on my phone.' Mikkelsen said he explained it was a meme and meant to be humorous, but the agent replied: 'It's very clearly a piece of dangerous extremist propaganda.' Mikkelsen also admitted to the officers that he had legally used cannabis in Germany and in the US state of New Mexico. Both places allow recreational use of the drug, but under US federal law, any drug use – even where legal – can be grounds for refusal of entry. He said he was then taken to a guarded room, where he was asked to hand over his phone, shoes, and bag. Later, the USCBP posted on X: 'Fact Check: FALSE. Mads Mikkelsen was not denied entry for any memes or political reasons, it was for his admitted drug use.' The Department of Homeland Security also denied that the meme had anything to do with the decision. BS. Claims that Mads Mikkelsen was denied entry because of a JD Vance meme are FALSE. Mikkelsen was refused entry into the U.S. for his admitted drug use. — Tricia McLaughlin (@TriciaOhio) June 24, 2025 Mikkelsen described the experience as traumatic. He said he was strip-searched, fingerprinted, had his luggage searched, and blood taken. He also claimed that his Norwegian passport was wrongly marked as 'Spanish,' and that US officials wrote incorrect information about his travel plans. According to paperwork shared by Mikkelsen, border agents also suspected he may have been trying to work in the US without permission, something he denies. 'I would not return while the current government is in power,' Mikkelsen told Nordlys. BBC reports that USCBP says fewer than 0.01 per cent of travellers have their phones or devices searched. Around one million people enter the US each day. US President Donald Trump, currently in office, has taken a strong stance on drug use and border enforcement.

Norwegian crown princess' 28-year-old son accused of rape, sexual assault
Jun 28, 2025 03:45 PM IST Marius Borg Høiby, the 28-year-old son of Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson to Crown Prince Haakon, heir to the throne, is accused of three rapes and several sexual assaults. He was arrested three times last year, including for violating a restraining order and due to the risk of evidence being lost. (AFP) The Norwegian police investigated Høiby for ten months before finally handing the case over to the prosecutors. Though his mom is married to a royal, Høiby does not have a royal title or duties. 'During the investigation, we have both received reports that have led to an investigation, and investigated cases that the police have come across in the investigation material along the way. Criminal cases have been investigated within several categories of cases, including violent and sexual offenses,' Oslo Police District said in a statement. The statement further lists that he is charged with several counts of sexual assault and rape. "I cannot go into further detail about the number of victims in the case beyond confirming that it is a double-digit number," police attorney Andreas Kruszewski told the BBC. Høiby's lawyer, Petar Sekulic, however, said that his client is "taking the accusations very seriously, but doesn't acknowledge any wrongdoing in most of the cases - especially the cases regarding sexual abuse and violence". The Royal House of Norway stated that the case is proceeding through the legal system but didn't provide further details.

6-year-old boy detained in £1.6 million drug bust in Mauritius: 'Cannabis hidden inside his bag'
A six-year-old British boy was among those detained in a dramatic £1.6 million drug bust in Mauritius, according to a report by The Mirror. The child was intercepted alongside five British adults and one Romanian national at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport last Sunday, shortly after arriving on a British Airways flight from London Gatwick. British nationals and a child were detained in Mauritius as 161kg of cannabis was seized at the airport.(Representational image/Pixabay) (Also read: Pakistanis react to British man wearing Team India's Dream11 jersey on Lahore streets: 'Is it safe?') Customs officials, acting on a joint anti-trafficking operation with police and sniffer dogs, reportedly discovered 161kg of cannabis concealed in the group's suitcases. Shockingly, 24 packages weighing around 14kg were found in the child's luggage. His 35-year-old mother was said to be carrying 29 packages, while her Romanian partner was allegedly holding another 32. Authorities have estimated the total street value of the drugs on the local market at approximately £1.6 million. Court appearance and continued detention All six adults were taken into custody and later brought before a magistrate in Mahebourg, where they were provisionally charged with drug offences. According to Mauritian outlet Defi Media, the police opposed any conditional release, and the suspects remain in detention. The adults reportedly include five women and one man, all British nationals, in addition to the Romanian man. Child returned to the UK Concerns were raised immediately about the child's welfare. The British High Commission was contacted, and arrangements were swiftly made for the boy's safe return to the UK. He was flown back on Wednesday, with his father receiving him at the airport. Conflicting reports suggest the child's age is either six or seven. A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office told The Mirror: 'We are supporting several British nationals who are detained in Mauritius and are in contact with the local authorities.' (Also read: British man arrested after attempting to stage fake wedding with 9-year-old girl at Disneyland Paris) Authorities condemn 'inhumane' use of child Customs and police officials stated they had been monitoring the group from the moment they disembarked from flight BA 2065. When their checked baggage was examined via X-ray, the hidden cannabis packages were allegedly uncovered. Mauritian authorities strongly condemned the use of a minor in an international smuggling attempt, calling it 'inhumane.' They further revealed that Apple AirTags were found with the drug packages—suggesting a well-coordinated and technologically sophisticated smuggling operation.
