Michael Morales might have been incredibly nervous on Saturday night when he faced former UFC welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns in the main event of UFC Vegas 106. Still, he contained that uneasiness, ultimately putting Burns away in the first round. After the fight, the undefeated Morales set his sights on Ian Machado Garry, another rising star in the UFC's welterweight division.

"I've talked about Ian (Machado) Garry a lot," Morales said via an interpreter following his win over Burns. "That's the fight I've always wanted to fight, but I know that he won his last fight and he's looking up at the rankings, so that might not happen.
"The biggest thing is being healthy and recovering from a couple of strikes that I had and to be in Guadalajara, and I think that fight, if they're able to make it, I would love to fight whoever in Guadalajara.
'I think at this point, taking advantage of opportunties, and being grateful for opportunities, (I would like to fight) the sixth, the fifth, the fourth in the rankings.'
Morales entered UFC Vegas 106 as the No. 12 fighter in the official UFC welterweight rankings, while Burns checked in at No. 8. Morales will move up a few notches when those rankings are updated this week. As for Machado Garry, he is No. 6 in those rankings following his April decision win over Carlos Prates.
As for the Guadalajara card. That event, UFC 320, is scheduled to take place on September 13 at Arena Guadalajara in Mexico. That event, also known as UFC Noche, does not have any bouts officially booked.

'Sure man, I was (expletive) my pants," Morales said. "They don't call him 'Durinho' for nothing. Whoever has to be in the cage with that guy, they would feel the nerves. He's a guy who has fought for a title, the people that he has fought throughout his career. It was important for me to prove to him that the tough guy tonight was me.'

I wrote the following about Morales's performance on Saturday. With his win he moved to 18-0 as a pro. His stoppage of Burns also earned the 25-year-old his second consecutive 'Performance of the Night' bonus.
"Michael Morales was 17-0 and a massive betting favorite when he walked to the Octagon for his matchup with veteran competitor and former welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns. As soon as the fighters engaged, it was clear that Morales was the bigger man. However, Burns had a massive advantage in experience, making his pro debut when Morales was just 12 years old. Well, that experience did not help Burns as Morales's size and power proved to be too much for Burns.
"Morales looked calm and composed against Burns, and when he hurt his opponent with a right hook around Burns's guard, he followed up with a flurry of punches that left the referee no choice but to wave things off before the four-minute mark of the first stanza.
'Morales might only be 25, but he'll join the UFC welterweight elite with his win over Burns.'
We will have more on what's next for Michael Morales, Ian Machado Garry and UFC 320 (UFC Noche) as news breaks.

Las Vegas Aces Get Significant Injury Update Before Indiana Fever Game

Las Vegas Aces Get Significant Injury Update Before Indiana Fever Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After a brief hiatus for the Commissioner's Cup championship game, the 2025 WNBA regular season will continue on Thursday night. Advertisement A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces will be back in action Thursday, hitting the road to face Aliyah Boston and the Indiana Fever for the second time this season. Although Las Vegas has started the 2025 season at 8-8, the Aces have remained relatively healthy. However, two players have yet to appear in a game this year, but one is nearing a return. Center Megan Gustafson has missed the Aces' first 16 games with a lower left leg injury suffered during training camp. While her status for Thursday's game remains uncertain, she has been upgraded to doubtful for the first time this season, according to Callie Fin of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Las Vegas Aces receive significant injury update before they face Indiana Yamashita-Imagn Images Gustafson, entering her second season with the Aces, proved to be a solid role player off the bench in 2024. She finished the year averaging 3.7 points on 50.0% shooting and 1.9 rebounds per game. Advertisement Along with Gustafson, Las Vegas also ruled out forward Cheyenne Parker-Tyus, who has also missed every game this season. The Fever also have key players on their injury report. All-WNBA point guard Caitlin Clark remains out as she continues to recover from a groin injury, while Damiris Dantas is away from the team competing in the AmeriCup with the Brazil national team. The Aces will take on the Fever on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. ET at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Then, Las Vegas will continue its five-game road trip against the Connecticut Sun on Sunday. Caitlin Clark Makes Unexpected Aliyah Boston Admission on Wednesday

Caitlin Clark Makes Unexpected Aliyah Boston Admission on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Aliyah Boston and the Indiana Fever found some recent success without All-WNBA point guard Caitlin Clark, defeating the Minnesota Lynx in Tuesday's Commissioner's Cup championship game. Advertisement Clark has now missed eight games during the 2025 WNBA season due to a quad issue and, most recently, a groin injury. She is expected to miss her ninth game of the year when the Fever host the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday. Over the past two years, Clark has built strong relationships with her teammates - perhaps none stronger than the bond she shares with fellow guard Lexie Hull. The two frequently comment on each other's social media posts and even took a trip to Mexico during last year's WNBA Olympic break. Clark has also called Hull her favorite teammate to ride the bus with. But when it comes to an emergency contact, Clark may have a different teammate in mind. Advertisement Caitlin Clark (right) admits she would have Aliyah Boston (middle) as an emergency Yamashita-Imagn Images On Wednesday, the Fever posted a video on social media asking players, 'Who on the team would you call in an emergency?' Rather than choosing Hull, Clark—like many of her teammates—named Boston as her go-to emergency contact. "That's a good question," Clark said. "Ooh. I'm trying to think of, like, who would answer their phone. I'd trust basically everyone. Honestly, probably Aliyah. Probably Aliyah." Other players who picked Boston include Hull, Kelsey Mitchell, Natasha Howard and Makayla Timpson. Boston would have picked herself if she could have but settled for Brianna Turner or Mitchell. Averaging 15.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists this season, Boston earned her third WNBA All-Star selection and will be a starter for the first time. She'll be joined by Clark, who was also voted in as a starter and named captain for the July 19 game. MMA Junkie's Submission of the Month for June: Merab Dvalishvili chokes Sean O'Malley

MMA Junkie's Submission of the Month for June: Dvalishvili taps O'Malley in rematch With another action-packed month of MMA in the books, MMA Junkie looks at the best submissions from June 2025: Here are the five nominees, listed in chronological order, and winner of MMA Junkie's Submission of the Month award for June. At the bottom of the post, let us know if we got it right by voting for your choice. Nominee: Kevin Holland def. Vicente Luque at UFC 316 Kevin Holland (28-13 MMA, 15-10 UFC) flipped the script when he tapped Vicente Luque (23-11-1 MMA, 16-7 UFC) with a choke similar to the Brazilian's signature maneuver in their welterweight bout. Holland defeated Vicente Luque with an anaconda choke (officially announced as a D'Arce choke) just 63 seconds into the second round,. The submission came after a strong first-round effort put forth by Holland, as he stunned Luque with a big standing elbow that wobbled him. Holland swarmed, but Luque was able to evade and make it long enough to get submitted. Nominee: Kayla Harrison def. Julianna Peña at UFC 316 First, an Olympic gold medalist. Then, a PFL champion. Now, a UFC champion. Kayla Harrison (19-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) added a new trophy for the case in emphatic fashion when she put away Julianna Peña (13-6 MMA, 8-4 UFC) to claim women's bantamweight gold. The first round was all Harrison, as she dragged Peña to the canvas with relative ease. Though the moment proved not to matter in the end, referee Vitor Ribeiro deducted a point from Peña for multiple illegal upkicks to the grounded Harrison. Early in Round 2, Harrison dragged the fight back to the canvas, where she grabbed hold of Peña's arm in a kimura and torqued until the submission came. Nominee: Ronnie Gibbs def. Biaggio Ali Walsh at 2025 PFL World Tournament 7 One of the biggest upsets in PFL history – and the sport – was registered courtesy of Ronnie Gibbs (2-0) against Biaggio Ali Walsh (2-1) Ali Walsh, grandson of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali and one of PFL's most promoted names, was submitted by promotional newcomerGibbs in a shocking result. Ali Walsh entered the bout on some sports books as high as a -2000 favorite. Gibbs was also fighting at lightweight, a weight class above his usual fighting weight of 145 pounds. Nominee: Alexandre Pantoja def. Kai Kara-France at UFC 317 Alexandre Pantoja (30-5 MMA, 14-3 UFC) is still on top of the UFC's flyweight division after turning in another dominant title defense against Kai Kara-France (25-12 MMA, 8-5 UFC) . The fight was one-way traffic throughout for the champion. Pantoja kept the pressure high by getting Kara-France to the ground early in Round 3. He once again found the back with plenty of time to work. This time, Pantoja went harder for the submission. He found the rear-naked choke opening and clamped down until the tap came. The winner: Merab Dvalishvili def. Sean O'Malley at UFC 316 Merab Dvalishvili is a "Machine." In the UFC 316 main event, Dvalishvili (20-4 MMA, 13-2 UFC) defeated Sean O'Malley (18-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) even more emphatically than he did the first time the two fought, as he retained his title via North-South neck crank. The stoppage came at 4:42 of Round 3. Dvalishvili found success in the opening round, as he relied on his signature relentless pace and aggression. O'Malley tried his best to fend off takedown attempts, but they came repeatedly at him. Dvalishvili mixed in his striking in the clinch and on the ground. In Round 2, O'Malley found increasing success. In one particular sequence he cracked Dvalishvili with a hard left hand on the break. But Dvalishvili kept moving forward. The round ended with a crazy spinning sequence from both fighters, who somehow ended up tied up with one another when the bell sounded. The crowd let them know their appreciation. Round 3 saw Dvalishvili drag O'Malley down. Just as the crowd became restless, Dvalishvili shifted into North-South position, grabbed hold, and cranked. Then came the tap. Cast Your Vote!
