The newly introduced courses—Solar Technician (Electric) and EV Mechanic (Electric Vehicle)—aim to equip students with industry-relevant skills in emerging green technologies
In a significant move to modernise technical education and create more job opportunities, the Directorate General of Training (DGT), under the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has approved two new-age courses in 70 government-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Maharashtra.
The newly introduced courses—Solar Technician (Electric) and EV Mechanic (Electric Vehicle)—aim to equip students with industry-relevant skills in emerging green technologies.
This initiative aligns with the state's emphasis on promoting environmental sustainability and green energy. As demand for solar and electric vehicle technicians continues to rise, these skill-based programs are expected to prepare students for the jobs of tomorrow.
Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha expressed confidence that this decision will revolutionise ITI education in Maharashtra. 'By updating our ITIs with future-ready courses, we are building a skilled workforce that meets the changing demands of the industry," he said.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra's Skill Development Department is implementing several innovative programs. The design of the new curriculum was supported by renowned scientist Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar and Mitra CEO Praveen Pardeshi, ensuring that training remains in sync with modern industrial needs.
Lodha further explained that the department's primary goal is to provide time-relevant, quality education and produce skilled manpower in line with industry needs. 'We are working to transform ITIs into high-quality skill development brands," he said.
As part of this effort, 36 district-level government ITIs across the state are being upgraded with the support of private industry players. The department is also taking a proactive approach by inviting more ITIs to propose new course requirements. If demand is identified, necessary approvals will be granted swiftly. The curriculum reforms are being undertaken in line with the National Education Policy (NEP), ensuring ITIs remain at the forefront of India's skilling revolution.
Through new skill-based courses, hands-on training, collaborations with industry, and initiatives like youth career guidance camps and technical expos, Maharashtra is working towards creating a robust skilled workforce and increasing employment opportunities for the youth.

Land acquisition for mega steel plant to begin soon in Odishas Keonjhar: Majhi

Bhubaneswar/Keonjhar, Aug 3 (PTI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday said land acquisition for the proposed mega steel plant in Keonjhar district would begin soon because the company concerned has already deposited the required funds for the purpose. According to official sources, the mega steel project in the district will be set up in a joint venture between JSW Group and South Korean steel giant POSCO, with an initial production capacity of 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and an investment of over Rs 40,000 crore. The government has identified two land patches for the project, one near Taramakant and another at Patna. 'Keonjhar will get a mega steel plant, and preparation for this has already started. The process has moved two steps forward, and the company concerned has deposited necessary funds for the purpose," Majhi said after reviewing several development projects in the district. The chief minister said the establishment of the plant is expected to boost the mineral-rich district's economy and provide new employment opportunities for local youths. Majhi has taken it as a challenge to set up a mega steel mill in Keonjhar, as the district lacks large-scale industries, an official sai. The government has taken up several developmental projects, such as national highway expansion, and there is no dearth of funds for the development of Keonjhar, he said. After his arrival, Majhi chaired a district-level review meeting, met local MLAs and sought their cooperation for the district's development. He flagged off three new ambulances and a 'Maa Tarini's coconut collection vehicle', a unique initiative likely tied to the renowned Maa Tarini Temple in Ghatagaon, where coconuts are a popular offering. PIB Debunks Fake Claim That India May Suspend US Agreements Over Tariffs

Last Updated: The Press Information Bureau dismissed false claims that India is suspending agreements with the US. The Press Information Bureau's Fact Check unit on Sunday officially dismissed social media posts which falsely claimed, citing the Ministry of External Affairs, that India is considering suspending or reviewing bilateral agreements with the United States over 'hostile economic policies". The fact-check by the Press Information Bureau comes amid speculations over the state of India-US ties after the US administration under President Donald Trump imposed 25% tariff on Indian exports. The social media statement by PIB clarified that no such statement was issued and labeled the claims as misinformation. 'The External Affairs Ministry has not made any such statement. Stay alert and do not fall for misleading information. above is from Govt of India," the PIB social media post on X said. It also shared photos of the misleading post where some accounts were seen posting false information with respect to ties between Washington and New Delhi. This rebuttal comes amid escalating tensions over US tariff actions. The MEA earlier in the week reiterated that India remains in active negotiations with Washington over a trade deal and assured the public that diplomatic ties and economic engagements are intact and ongoing, unaffected by such rumours. On July 30, 2025, US President Trump announced a 25% tariff on Indian imports, effective August 1, citing high Indian tariffs, restrictive trade barriers and India's continued energy and defense ties with Russia. This move sent immediate ripples through export and import sectors of both countries — particularly in the textiles, apparel, gems, jewellery and electronics sector – where exporters and importers fear the new duties could lead to widespread disruptions. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
