CFB Insider Reveals Pick For Top Job in College Football
Head coach Steve Sarkisian has gone 25-5 in the last two seasons, so it is no wonder that On3's Ari Wasserman voted Texas as the best job in college football.

Wasserman's top five included Texas, the Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks and Texas A&M Aggies in that order.
Sarkisian has an overall record of 38-17 since taking the Texas job in 2021. Before Texas, he was a head coach at the USC Trojans from 2014-15 and the Washington Huskies from 2009-13.

Texas' last national title was in 2005 and while Sarkisian has not won any yet, he has brought the Longhorns back to contending for them.
Texas has reached the semifinal of the playoff twice, in 2023 and 2024, under Sarkisian.
He also understands that none of his success would be possible without some solid recruiting classes. Since the 2021 cycle, Sarkisian has had a top-15 recruiting class every year on On3 Sports. The Longhorns' 2026 class is currently ranked 13th in the country.

The class features five-star quarterback Dia Bell, four-star receiver Chris Stewart, four-star offensive tackle Max Wright and three-star inside offensive lineman Nicolas Robertson.
While Sarkisian had successful seasons in 2023 and 2024, it did not start that way. In his first year at Texas in 2021, the Longhorns finished at 5-7. The Longhorns ended the following season at 8-5, after a loss in the Alamo Bowl.
Things took off in the 2023 season, with Texas reaching the CFP semifinal after winning the Big 12 Championship Game.
Texas reached the semifinal again in 2024, losing to eventual national champion, the Ohio State Buckeyes, 28-14.
Sarkisian and the Longhorns face Ohio State again in their 2025 season opener on Aug. 30.

Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba will not play for Inter Miami Saturday night when they host FC Cincinnati. The two have been suspended — "unavailable," as MLS put it — after they missed the 2025 MLS All-Star Game this week. "Inter Miami CF's Jordi Alba and Lionel Messi will be unavailable for the club's match against FC Cincinnati on Saturday, July 26, due to their absence at this week's Major League Soccer All-Star Game," said MLS in a statement. "Per league rules, any player who does not participate in the All-Star Game without prior approval from the league is ineligible to compete in their club's next match. Both Messi and Alba were voted into the All-Star Game but did not take part in any events earlier this week in Austin, Texas. According to ESPN's Lizzy Becherano, league officials and Inter Miami representatives held talks about whether both players would be available for the Cincinnati game. "What I think is that if they want to do this type of event, it's great to do it, and the truth is that it's great for the league," Mascherano said. "There shouldn't be a date in the schedule. It's crazy. We've been playing four of the last five games away. We've been playing four away. We've been playing practically every three days. "Stop for the weekend, the All-Star Game is played on the weekend, and we come back because after Wednesday, today, 48 hours after having played, there are teams that are going to play today, and it's not enough rest for the players either. So, the first thing we have to think about is that football belongs to the players. And if football belongs to the players, without players, it doesn't exist." Messi missed last year's All-Star Game after he suffered an ankle injury representing Argentina at Copa América. Speculation grew that the two Inter Miami stars would not play in this year's event when they both missed Monday's training session. Following an injury-filled 2024 season, the 38-year-old Messi has played every minute of Inter Miami's last 19 games. The Herons are 12-4-5 and sit fifth in the Eastern Conference through 21 games. Both players were in the Inter Miami lineup during Saturday's 5-1 win over New York Red Bulls. Alba, who was subbed out in the second half with an injury, scored the team's first goal and Messi added two in the second half. Texas sports teams help launch the Texas Sports for Healing Fund to help raise money for flood victims
After the devastating floods that impacted Central Texas on the Fourth of July, 39 local and national sports organizations have come together to launch the Texas Sports Healing Fund, a united effort to support immediate relief and long-term recovery. Among the latest to join the initiative are the Dallas Mavericks. The fund, spearheaded by Texas-based sports teams, aims to assist communities affected by natural disasters across the state, with a special focus on supporting youth and families. Fans can support relief efforts through a national online auction featuring over 150 pieces of rare sports memorabilia. Proceeds will directly benefit flood victims. Additionally, the Mavericks have been selling "Texas Strong" T-shirts at Dallas Mavs Shops to raise further support for the fund. So far, the Mavs and its fanbase have collectively raised nearly $550,000, according to the team. In total, sports organizations have already contributed $6.3 million toward flood relief efforts outside of the Texas Sport for Healing Fund. The goal of the Texas Sports Healing Fund is to foster resilience by helping young people and their families recover emotionally and physically from the disaster. That includes funding access to mental health resources, launching community programs and creating safe spaces where youth can connect and heal.
