Queen Camilla is ready for more ‘Slow Horses.' And Gary Oldman is happy to oblige

Sir Gary Oldman — he received a British knighthood in King Charles' June birthday honors list — appears on Zoom at his home in Palm Springs in front of a display of his own black-and-white photographs. 'I do all sorts of photography, but I also do 19th century wet plate,' he says. 'I just like the process. I don't do digital, I do film. I like the developing.' Oldman's been 'doing film' of the silver-screen sort since the 1980s, but the phenomenal global success of London-based spy thriller 'Slow Horses,' which returns for its fifth season on Apple TV+ next month, has changed everything for the Oscar winner (2017's 'Darkest Hour'). Emmy-nominated as lead actor in a drama series for the second consecutive year for his turn as slovenly Jackson Lamb, leader of an out-of-favor group of spies nicknamed the Slow Horses, Oldman could not be more thrilled. In fact, it's virtually impossible to tell whether he's more psyched about 'Slow Horses' or being knighted. Either way, he's full of the joys of his very hot summer. 'Big sky, big mountain and 102 here at the moment,' he beams. He finds L.A. too chilly now. 'I'm thrilled with it,' he grins of his knighthood, 'and no, I wasn't angling for it. I mean, I've done some stuff for charity over the years, and I would like to think I'm a good export, an ambassador of Britain. I have a green card, but I don't have American citizenship. I'm still a British subject.' He's thrilled too about his Emmy nomination, but less enamored of relentless questions about 'how you pull the rabbit out of the hat.' 'Can't it just be a bloody mystery? Why do we have to sort of take it all apart?' he asks. 'I think half of the time I make it up. I don't know, I just do. It's like you have a facility for something. It's like asking a tennis player, 'How do you return the ball?' 'I've just been able to do it since I was 12.' I don't look up videos of Peter O'Toole talking about acting.' Oldman notes he moved to Hollywood 'completely by accident' because he 'wanted to go to the place where they were making films so I could practice.' Film, he did, ad infinitum, particularly enjoying the spy genre in 'Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,' which garnered him his first Oscar nomination as lead actor in 2012, long before Jackson Lamb appeared on his radar. It appears 'Slow Horses' might satisfy part of his creative itch for some years to come. Season 6 is already in the can, and Season 7 is due to start filming this fall. 'It is something I could just do. Can I see an end? I don't know,' he says. 'I love the people and the show and the character. But it's nothing to do with that. Apple write the checks and have been generous in their check-writing. I mean, how do you feel? Do you think people would eventually just get fed up with it?' I demur, along with members of the British royal family apparently. 'The Queen [Camilla] said to me, 'Are there any more?' I'm led to believe that they like 'Slow Horses.' And in Palm Springs of all places, I'll go to the hardware store or the supermarket and people will come up to me and say, 'When's 'Slow Horses' coming back?'' His facility for the simple stuff does, however, fail him occasionally. 'Yes, suddenly you can't walk in a room. Or get out of a car. I've walked into a room my entire life. I've got out of so many cars I couldn't count and now, yeah, even just raising a cup. It's the funniest thing, it will trip you up.' To date, he has not forgotten how to eat, which is fortunate given Lamb's gargantuan appetite and Oldman's impatience with eating scenes where actors push their food around. 'I remember the noodles scene in Season 2, and you know Lamb is an eater; I'm always eating in the show, and you can't fake it. So one morning I ate 17 or 18 bowls of noodles and then it was, 'OK, we're gonna break for lunch, can I get you anything?'' Oldman's most recent 'charity work' was his pro bono four-week run this spring of Samuel Beckett's one-man play 'Krapp's Last Tape' at York Theatre Royal, scene of his professional stage debut in 1979 and his first U.K. stage appearance in 37 years. 'I kind of got kidnapped by film and with all the other life experiences — kids, divorce, marriage, divorce, sobriety,' he says. 'You turn around and think, 'When did I last do a play?' And I thought, 'I'd really like to do it, let me put my toe back in the water.'' He wondered, 'Well, will anyone come? Is anyone interested? I was worried whether we'd fill 700 or 800 seats, and then the day they announced the tickets, their computer crashed.' There's that huge smile again, one suggesting he still can't quite believe it. Unsurprisingly, he doesn't waste time worrying too much about his place in the Hollywood pantheon. 'Maybe there are people somewhere in an executive office sitting around saying, 'What about Gary Oldman for this role?' and 'No, he's unavailable because he's doing the show.' But I like what 'Slow Horses' has afforded me over the last few years. I get some downtime, I got to do theater, I've got my photography and other things, rather than thinking about this or that film and 'they want you but they don't know if they can go this year.' 'I feel so privileged, so bloody lucky that at 67 years old, I'm in a show of this caliber, that people have really actually embraced. I'm so very, very blessed, and it's also nice to know that you're going to be working. Yeah, it's nice to be in regular employment.'

Katie Price apologised to daughter Princess over her heartbreak

Moving scenes on ITV's The Princess Diaries set to air on August 10 Princess Andre has revealed her mum, Katie Price, said sorry to her over the messy fallout from the Kieran Hayler divorce. The 18-year-old famous offspring invited the cameras into her life with the fly-on-the-wall documentary, The Princess Diaries, where she has the opportunity to share a more vulnerable side. Wearing her heart on her sleeve in the first episode, which is due to air on August 10, she spoke about the moment her mum apologised to her. Price was married to Hayler from 2013, and they separated in 2018 when it emerged he had cheated on the former glamour model. In the years they were together, they raised their two children — Jett and Bunny — as well as Price's older children — Princess, Junior and Harvey. Looking back on those five years, Princess said they had grown "close" to Hayler. "We loved him," she told the cameras. Price and Hayler's break-up played out very publicly in the newspaper headlines. The Princess Diaries reminded viewers of one of those hard-hitting headlines: Katie Price hit breaking point and attempted suicide after Kieran Hayler split. Speaking from the heart, Princess said her mother went through a "dark time". "I wouldn't say I'm fully recovered from it," she said. However, the influencer said her mum has "fixed" herself after the breakdown of her third marriage and apologised to her for the impact it had on her. Now Princess is older, she has become best friends with her mum and they do a lot together. "Mum is such a different person," she explained. "She's genuinely really fixed herself. She spoke to me about this. I realised that I should never, she apologised, I never wanted an apology from her. It was a lot that she acknowledged it: 'you are my kids and I love you and I need to prioritise you'. We are so close now. We do a lot together. I love her. She's my best friend." The Princess Diaries' main star explained Price hadn't dealt with the break up well because she was "heartbroken". "She went through a dark time," she said. "It was hard me for adult-y thing you shouldn't have to go through [as a child]. Everything that happened the press picked up on, they would write stories constantly. I would go into school asking me questions about it cos they'd seen it in the papers. I would get into bed and cry." Princess kept how she was truly feeling from her dad Peter Andre because of her parents' ongoing feud. She said: "I would never go speak to my dad about it. I'd grown up knowing my mum and dad don't like each other." Due to this feud, Price has been banned from filming The Princess Diaries. Princess had to move out of her house (albeit temporarily) so she could live full-time at her dad Andre's home for filming. Although Price was banned from the show, Princess found a way to get her involved by asking her mum to film a voice note for her. The Princess Diaries airs on ITV2 and ITVX on Sunday.

Princess Andre's changing relationship with Katie Price as she's banned from ITV series

The spotlight will be on the 18-year-old for her new reality series, The Princess Diaries Princess Andre has a close bond with Katie Price but her mum has been barred from appearing on her ITV series, The Princess Diaries. She is the second child of exes Peter Andre, 52, and Price, 47, who famously haven't got on since their headline-grabbing divorce in 2009. Now the aspiring model, 18, is stepping into the spotlight with her own fly-on-the-wall reality series, much like Katie & Peter, which made her parents millionaires. But her famous mum won't be appearing on the ITV show; on the other hand, her dad and her step-mum Emily will be in the background alongside her brother Junior. Although Price doesn't star in the show, Princess has lots to say about her mother whom she loves. The reality star discussed their relationship and how it has changed as she got older. "Me and my mum now, we're so close more like best friends," she said. "I'll tell her anything, she'll tell me anything." Price not appearing on The Princess Diaries is not a result of her own relationship with Price, which Princess has said is ever-changing. "As you get older, you have a different type of bond," Princess said on her mum's Channel 4 series Katie Price: Making Babies, which aired in January this year. "It is not a mummy and daughter bond anymore, it is more of a grown-up bond." As she makes her own way in the spotlight, Princess has said she relies on her mum Price to give her "good advice"; she looks to her mum especially when it comes to the make-up and beauty world. She told OK! magazine in June: "With business stuff, they both know what to look for. Mum has had beauty ranges before so she's been helpful and I'm still hoping to do a lot more brand-work and music, and I trust my dad's opinion on all of that." Changes to the mother-daughter relationship Princess made a few changes to her relationship with her mum for the ITV series, including moving out of her home. Mother-of-five Price said that her oldest daughter was living primarily at her dad's because she was filming. She told The Katie Price Show podcast earlier in July: "Princess was living with me but because she's doing her documentary, and I'm not even allowed to breathe near the documentary, she has been predominantly staying at her dad's while she is filming." However, the former glamour model said this won't be a permanent move and she's expecting her daughter to come back once the cameras have finished filming. The mother-of-five added: "It's only because she has been filming that she has been at Pete's because obviously I'm not allowed anywhere near it. She has only got about two weeks left of filming... I'm that kind of mum where I have to make sure my kids have bedrooms if they want it, you never know do you." Due to filming, Price was also banned from her daughter's 18th birthday party. The famous offspring previously told OK! magazine that she would be celebrating with her mum Price privately instead, suggesting they would have a nice dinner together. Now that Princess is 18 years old, Price would love to take her daughter out on the town. "Officially, Mummy and Princess can go out together. Isn't it?" Price previously said on The Katie Price Show podcast. Princess Andre has admitted she is not into wild parties. She told The Sunday Mirror's Notebook magazine: "I'm not really a big drinker or a big party-goer, but it'll be nice to be able to go to pubs and stuff with my friends."
