Mason Greenwood meets up with former Man United team-mates Kobbie Mainoo and James Garner as Marseille star steps up preparations for new season
Greenwood, 23, is fresh off an impressive debut season for Marseille that saw him score 21 goals in 34 Ligue 1 appearances as the French side qualified for the Champions League.
The forward signed for Marseille last summer for a fee worth £27million, plus £3.2m in add-ons, after his 17-year association with United came to an end.
That came after the 23-year-old was charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour in October 2022, but the charges and case were dropped in February 2023 when key witnesses withdrew. Greenwood has always denied any wrongdoing.
The Red Devils then decided Greenwood would not be integrated back into the first team in the summer of 2023 after an internal investigation took place and sent him on loan to Getafe for the 2023-24 season, before his permanent move to Marseille.
And, on Tuesday, Greenwood was seen with Garner and Mainoo, two stars that also came through the United youth ranks, as he steps up his preparations for the new campaign.
Mainoo is three years younger than Greenwood and signed his first professional deal in 2022
Greenwood and Garner, who now plays for Everton, were both in the same age group in the academy and they also featured for the first team together on five occasions.
Mainoo is three years younger than Greenwood, but is a fellow academy product, and signed his first professional contract in May 2022.
In the photos, the trio were seen in training gear and with football boots at a council playing fields in Manchester.
Meanwhile, Greenwood has been linked with a move away from Marseille this summer after his 21 goals saw him share the Ligue 1 Golden Boot with PSG star and Ballon d'Or contender Ousmane Dembele.
Back in May, The Telegraph claimed that two Premier League clubs were weighing up a move for the forward, who has been seen honing his skills over the summer in various other clips that have emerged on social media.
However, the striker did face criticism at points in 2024-25 for his work rate, while he was also derided by supporters earlier this term and even dropped on one occasion by his supportive manager.
Nevertheless, De Zerbi has generally spoken glowingly of Greenwood and revealed in April that he believes he has the qualities to join the pantheon of all-time greats at Marseille.
'Greenwood is a natural talent,' the Italian said. 'All the credit goes to his mother and father. And I'm here to help him become more complete.
'When he needs a hug, a word of support, I gladly give it. And when I need to push him to give more, I have to do that too because that's my job.
'I would especially like to help him be remembered, in this stadium and by these supporters, as one of the greatest players to have played here at the Vélodrome.
'There have been so many great players here, but I think Greenwood has the qualities to be remembered that way. And I'm trying to help him progress.'
Marseille came second in Ligue 1 in 2024-25 which was enough for them to qualify for the Champions League, although they did finish 19 points behind champions PSG.

Carsington Water triathlon cancelled due to water levels
A triathlon set to take place at a reservoir in Derbyshire has been cancelled due to the water levels being lower than normal following "prolonged hot weather".The event on 13 July would have seen participants swim, cycle and run a course at Carsington Water, near Severn Trent and Pacesetter Events have called it off, claiming the water levels are "dropping quickly", leaving thick mud and weeds along the Marshall, visitor engagement manager at Severn Trent, said: "We are disappointed to have to make this decision, but the safety and experience of participants is paramount." According to the latest data from Severn Trent, Carsington Water is 80.8% full, compared to 96.4% at this time last year. 'An exceptional year' Pacesetter, which said cancelling the triathlon was the "right thing to do for athlete safety and experience", claimed the region had just 39% of its usual rainfall between March and added: "Looking at the current water levels and predicting what this might be like by the event day we feel like the event would be unpleasant at best and potentially dangerous at worst, therefore this extremely difficult decision has had to be made."Over the past 30 years the triathlon and swim event would have been able to run at this time of year as water levels have been typically good, unfortunately this year is an exceptional year and levels are dropping quickly."Pacesetter said anyone signed up to take part in the triathlon would be able to get a full refund, defer entry for next year's event or choose credit against a new event Marshall said watersports and sailing activities would still be able to run at the site as normal and reminded visitors they should only swim in "reservoirs as part of a properly organised and safely held event".She added: "We fully intend to host events again next year when we hope for more favourable conditions."At the end of May, England's reservoirs were at their lowest combined levels for the time of year in records going back more than 30 levels in the North East and North West were exceptionally low - an important factor for drought being declared in Yorkshire and the North also rained less than normal across almost all of the UK between March and May, the UK's sixth driest spring since records began in 1836.

Four charged in terror probe over break-in at RAF Brize Norton after £7m of damage caused ‘by Palestine Action'
FOUR people have been charged in a terror probe over the break-in at RAF Brize Norton after £7million of damage was inflicted. The group Palestine Action have claimed the damage on two Voyager aircraft was carried out by them. Amy Gardiner-Gibson, 29, Jony Cink, 24, Daniel Jeronymides-Norie, 35, and Lewie Chiaramello, 22, are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday. They have all been remanded in custody. It comes after the action, which was claimed by the group Palestine Action, caused £7million worth of damage to the aircraft on June 20. Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) said the four had been charged with conspiracy to enter a prohibited place knowingly for a purpose prejudicial to the safety or interests of the United Kingdom, and conspiracy to commit criminal damage. CTPSE said a 41-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender had been released on bail until September 19. A 23-year-old man was released without charge. MPs on Wednesday backed the Government's move to ban the direct action group Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation. Legislation passed in the Commons as MPs voted 385 to 26, majority 359 in favour of proscribing the group under the Terrorism Act 2000. The motion is expected to be debated and voted on by the House of Lords on Thursday before it becomes law.

Wales press conference Live as Matt Sherratt names team for first Japan Test
Matt Sherratt has named his Wales team to take on Japan this Saturday in Kitakyushu, opting to hold the experience of Aaron Wainwright and Tommy Reffell back on the bench. Alex Mann and Josh Macleod are preferred to the experienced back-rowers, as Sherratt opts for a 6-2 split on the bench to deal with the expected heat and humidity on Saturday. There are just four survivors in the starting XV from the one that ended the Six Nations against England - with Nicky Smith, Taulupe Faletau, Ben Thomas and Blair Murray keeping their jerseys. Wales take on the Brave Blossoms at Mikuni World Stadium this weekend as they look to end a 17-Test losing run. Defeat to Japan would see Wales slide down to 14th in the rankings, falling behind Saturday's opponents as well as Samoa. Having named his side, Sherratt will now face the media - with that press conference set to take place at 7am UK time. You can follow all the updates from that in our live blog below.
