The recommendations include constituting Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) as per UGC POSH Guidelines, mandatory training of ICC members, and conducting POSH awareness programmes for students. The commission also recommended a campus safety audit involving student stakeholders, installation of signage at dark vulnerable spots, formation of WhatsApp groups linking students and police personnel, and creation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to track visitor entry and exit.
After Rahatkar chaired a review meeting with senior university officials, the NCW said that it would continue to monitor the situation and extend its full support in fostering safe and inclusive academic environments. Calling the case a wake-up call, the NCW urged universities nationwide to adopt robust safety and gender sensitisation initiatives.

Hyderabad: Posing as Bengaluru city police and CBI officials, cyber fraudsters duped an 80-year-old retired PSU employee of over Rs 1.1 crore by threatening t- was registered at the Hyderabad cybercrime police station on July 30. The scam began on July 12 when the victim received a call alleging that a SIM card issued in his name was linked to Rs 30 crore in laundering and trafficking proceeds in Karnataka. 'A man identifying himself as police inspector Siva Prasad, came on WhatsApp video call accompanied by a few more men in the background, all in police uniform. Siva Prasad reprimanded me for giving my Aadhaar card to someone, and said it was used to open a bank account into which Rs 30 crore in money laundering proceeds was deposited,' the victim said in his complaint lodged with the cybercrime police. Trustee duped of Rs 85k in fake land deal for old age home
Ahmedabad: A 35-year-old trustee of an old age home in Naranpura has filed a police complaint alleging he was cheated of Rs 85,000 by two men who promised to allocate land for his trust under the guise of NGO support. The complainant, who jointly runs the old age home with his mother, told police that he received a call on July 25 from a man identifying himself as Vijay. Claiming to represent an NGO that supports old age homes, Vijay inquired about the trust's needs. While the trustee mentioned grocery requirements, Vijay instead offered help with land allocation and sent an office address near Sindhu Bhavan Road via WhatsApp. The following day, a man named Surendra visited the trustee and took him to inspect an open plot near Prahladnagar, claiming it was being donated to the trust. Surendra then demanded Rs 1.10 lakh as legal and stamp duty charges, assuring that the amount would be refunded within three days. Woman loses Rs 6 lakh to digital arrest
Udupi: A woman, who was cheated by fraudsters in a digital arrest case, lost Rs 6 lakh. According to Udupi CEN police, the complainant, Leola, received a phone call at 11.30 am on July 22 from an unidentified person who introduced himself as a representative of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India . The caller told the complainant that several complaints related to harassment and fake advertisements were registered against her SIM card. Further, the caller told her that the call would be forwarded to the Mumbai Cyber police. Later, the complainant received a WhatsApp call at 12.19 pm. The caller, in police uniform, informed the woman that her Aadhaar card was involved in a money laundering case and threatened her to remain on a WhatsApp video call for 24 hours. Around 12.26 pm the next day, she received another call, and the caller asked her not to switch off the mobile phone data. The caller also threatened to arrest her if she switched off her mobile data. Later, she was forced to transfer Rs 6 lakh to two different bank accounts of the fraudster. A case under Section 66 (c) of the IT Act was registered.
