Former UFC Veteran Godofredo Pepey in Legal Trouble After Florida Incident: Report
Life after professional fighting can be unpredictable, but for one former UFC veteran, it's taken a troubling turn. Once a contender under the spotlight of international MMA, the ex-fighter now finds himself at the center of a serious legal battle. This week, reports surfaced out of Florida detailing an incident that could have long-term consequences both personally and legally.

Godofredo Castro de Oliveira, better known in the MMA world as Godofredo Pepey, was arrested on June 30 in Deerfield Beach, Florida. The 38-year-old Brazilian, once a runner-up on the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, is facing a series of disturbing charges stemming from an alleged assault on his wife, Samara Mello.

According to reports from Combate, Pepey allegedly struck her, caused visible injuries, destroyed household property, and then prevented her from contacting authorities. He is accused of locking her inside their home.
Pepey was taken into custody after concerned neighbors alerted law enforcement. His bail has been set at $120,000, but even if paid, the former UFC featherweight may face deportation due to immigration procedures.

The charges include kidnapping with bodily injury, domestic battery by strangulation, and interference with communication to law enforcement. The case is being prosecuted by the state of Florida.
Samara is currently receiving support from the Fighting Foundation, a non-profit founded by Rose Gracie aimed at helping fighters and their families with resources in mental health and crisis recovery.
Once an athlete with 11 UFC appearances and a TUF legacy, Pepey's post-fight life has now taken a much darker path. While UFC President Dana White and the promotion have yet to comment publicly on the matter, the incident casts a shadow over the legacy of fighters who once represented the organization.

Stephanie White Makes Indiana Fever Admission Without Caitlin Clark
Stephanie White Makes Indiana Fever Admission Without Caitlin Clark originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Stephanie White and the Indiana Fever are having their best stretch of the 2025 WNBA season with their longest winning streak of three games. And they have done it without point guard Caitlin Clark. Advertisement On Saturday, White and the Fever will look for their 10th win this season, hosting Dearica Hamby and the Los Angeles Sparks at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Fever lost Clark to a groin injury during their June 24 win over the Seattle Storm. After dropping their next game, ironically against the Sparks, Indiana bounced back with a win over the Dallas Wings. Then they went on to capture the Commissioner's Cup championship by defeating the league-leading Minnesota Lynx. Finally, on Thursday, they dominated the Las Vegas Aces by 27. And White seems to like what she has seen from her team without their All-Star captain. Advertisement Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White propels the team to a three-game winning Johnson-Imagn Images Ahead of Saturday's game, White joined the media for a press conference. When asked about finding a team identity over the recent winning surge, White had a lot to say. 'We found a little bit more of an identity defensively," White said. "With this group, I think, you know, again, it goes back to our activity level. Our ability to be active, aware, and anticipate actions that are coming. Our execution. Being connected, and I think we are. I think we're continuing offensively to move the ball a little bit better to find our spots individually, and I think that that's helped us." White finished by saying she doesn't know the final product of her team with Clark still out. Advertisement "I don't know that we're where we're going to be because Caitlin hasn't been on the floor," White added. "That's obviously a huge piece for us in what we do. I'm proud of this group and the way that they've been able to find that connectivity on both ends and really set the tone on the defensive end.' Following the Sparks game, the Fever will be back in action on Wednesday, hosting the Golden State Valkyries. Yankees makemove to add veteran third baseman to system
Yankees makemove to add veteran third baseman to system originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Yankees have signed veteran infielder Jeimer Candelario to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple‑A Scranton/Wilkes‑Barre, according to Conor Foley of the YES Network. Advertisement While the move may not register as blockbuster news, it quietly addresses an area of need: third base. Candelario has logged nearly 700 career games at third in the majors, including 12 starts at the hot corner earlier this season with the Reds. And with the Yankees struggling to find consistency at the position, every option is on the table. Former Cincinnati Reds third baseman Jeimer Candelario throws to first at Great American Ball Park.© Katie Stratman-Imagn Images The Yankees currently have Jazz Chisholm Jr. playing third base, but he has been vocal about feeling more comfortable at second base. DJ LeMahieu has been playing second since he came off the injured list. The Yankees are said to be in the market for a third baseman at the trade deadline, but with the news Saturday that Clarke Schmidt will likely need season-ending surgery there's a long list of needs. Cincinnati recently released the 31-year-old switch-hitting Candelario after hitting just .113 with one home run in 22 games, his season derailed by a lingering back injury. But he's not far removed from a strong 2023 season when he hit .251 with 22 home runs and 70 RBIs across time with the Nationals and Cubs. Advertisement This is a classic low-risk, potential-reward signing. If Candelario can get healthy and find his swing again in Scranton, he could give the Yankees a veteran third baseman with actual upside. He's not a savior, and this isn't the blockbuster movie Yankees fans were hoping for.. But for a team trying to plug a lot of roster holes and survive the grind, it's a smart move.
