IKIM Chairman's Passing Great Loss To Ummah In Malaysia, Singapore

SINGAPORE, June 26 (Bernama) – The passing of Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) chairman, Prof Datuk Dr Muhammad Nur Manuty, on Thursday is not only a great loss to the ummah in Malaysia but also in Singapore.
Muslim Converts' Association of Singapore (MCAS) President, Muhammad Imran Kuna, said Muhammad Nur was one of the pioneers who helped establish the association's education system and remained an important consultant to its work until his passing.

Muhammad Imran said that during a visit to Muhammad Nur's home last month when he was unwell, the former senator's parting words were a reminder to ensure that the Muslim ummah in Malaysia and Singapore remain united and continue working together.
'He wanted us to be the bridge, and for the ummah to strengthen and hold hands. Insha Allah, we will continue to uphold his niat (intention) and request,' he told Bernama.
Muhammad Imran added that the IKIM chairman was instrumental in fostering collaboration between MCAS and other Muslim associations and organisations in Malaysia.
'He was one of those who believed in what we wanted to do and had great ideas. He was a great inspiration and will always be remembered by us.
'He was supposed to be one of the pillars supporting the first Asia-Pacific Cross-Culture Conference, which we are planning to hold in Singapore in November, and also a major Quran-related project we intended to launch in Singapore,' he said, noting that he had known Muhammad Nur for 15 years.
In January, MCAS, which is also known as Darul Arqam, honoured Muhammad Nur with its highest accolade at the inaugural MCAS Academic Excellence Award ceremony, in recognition of his dedication, leadership, and transformative impact on the association.

Affordable Goods Make Rahmah Sale Worth The Trip For Orang Asli
By Muhamad Adzhar Tajuddin SUNGAI SIPUT, June 28 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Rahmah Sale Programme (PJRM) held at the Orang Asli One-Stop Centre (OAOSC) here has brought meaningful relief to the surrounding Orang Asli community, offering essential goods at affordable prices. Despite the long journey, a rubber tapper from Legap Regroupment Scheme (RPS), Long Busu, 56, said he was willing to drive nearly an hour to the centre to obtain essential household items at reduced prices. Describing it as a highly beneficial government initiative for the low-income group, the father of six and grandfather of 10 said the programme organised by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) had significantly eased the burden of the Orang Asli, particularly those in remote areas. 'It is quite a long journey to get here, but because the essential items are sold at low prices, I still came to do my shopping. 'It's really worth it. I bought rice, chicken and cooking oil, which are cheaper here than at the supermarkets,' he told Bernama recently. Ali Busu, 53, from Kampung Bawong said the programme had brought relief to the Orang Asli community in Bawong and Legap RPS as they no longer had to make the long journey to Sungai Siput town to buy their daily necessities. He said the initiative not only saved time and travel costs but also offered quality goods at very reasonable prices. 'Even though the prices are lower, the goods are good and fresh. There's no difference between the chicken, meat or dry goods sold here and those at the big markets.

Hutan Melintang fire victims receive aid as cause investigation continues
BAGAN DATUK: The Perak Social Welfare Department (JKM) and the village chief's office have initiated a census to expedite aid distribution for victims of the Hutan Melintang fire. District Disaster Management Committee chairman Nazrul Fazami Mohamad confirmed that multiple agencies are coordinating efforts to assess the damage and assist affected families. 'JKM and the village chief's office are working swiftly to complete documentation for aid disbursement. Victims are urged to file police reports to facilitate state-level assistance through the Bagan Datuk District and Land Office,' Nazrul Fazami said during a site visit today. The fire, which broke out at 4.30 am, destroyed 23 properties in Bagan Pasir Laut, including 19 Class B and C houses, a non-Muslim house of worship, two eateries, and a sundry shop. No injuries or fatalities were reported. Nazrul Fazami added that no relief centre (PPS) has been opened as all displaced residents are temporarily staying with nearby relatives. 'Further discussions will monitor the situation to determine if a PPS is needed later,' he said. Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad stated that the fire's cause remains under investigation. Witness accounts suggest the blaze started in a rear-row house, narrowing the forensic team's focus.
