Crising causes flooding, evacuations, 2 reported missing
Tropical Storm Crising brought heavy rains and caused flooding and evacuations in many areas overnight. Two people were also reported missing, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Twenty-six areas were flooded in the country - two in Region 1, three in Mimaropa, two in Region 6, and nineteen in Region 7, according to NDRRMC's 6 a.m. report. Of these, flooding in two areas were reported receding.
A total of 96,791 individuals or 37,598 families in 417 barangays were affected by Crising. The NDRRMC said 3,556 families or 11,689 individuals were staying in evacuation centers. Meanwhile, 1,781 families or 6,012 individuals stayed outside evacuation centers.
Two people were reported missing in Region 6, to be validated by the NDRRMC.
Meanwhile, as of Saturday morning, 26 roads and four bridges were not passable.
A total of 1,875 individuals were stranded in various ports from 12 a.m. to 4 a.m. on Saturday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.
The PCG also said 81 vessels, 37 motorbancas, and 591 rolling cargoes were stranded. Those taking shelter meanwhile, were 57 vessels and 106 motorbancas, it added.
A total of 4,595 families required assistance in Regions 1 and 6, the NDRRMC said. Total cost of assistance needed to assist the 4,595 families is P2,572,977.73. Meanwhile, 3,840 families were already assisted. —KG, GMA Integrated News

DOTr: Road, drainage works to begin this week to prevent NLEX flooding repeat

File photo National government agencies and local units, along with NLEX Corp., are set to start working this week to address drainage and improve waterways in the Valenzuela and Bulacan areas in a bid prevent a repeat of the recent floods that hit the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the DOTr said Sunday. According to Transportation Secretary Vivencio 'Vince' Dizon, officials of the Departments of Transportation (DOTr), and the Public Works and Highways (DPWH), along with representatives of NLEX Corp., Valenzuela City and Meycauayan, Bulacan met on Saturday, August 2, to discuss the action plan. Dizon said the group has already designated the work among the agencies, with 10 waterways set to be cleaned. Some will also have to be widened and dredged, as these have been filled with debris and silt. The biggest workload will be along the boundary of Valenzuela and Meycauayan, Bulacan, where all the agencies will be working together. 'Magsasama sama kami nun, magtutulungan kami para mapaluwag na 'yung waterway dun para kahit papaano, kung magbabaha man o matindi talaga 'yung ulan, eh hindi na katulad nung dati,' he said in an interview on GMA Super Radyo DZBB. (We will work together and help each other to clear the waterways so that somehow, even if it floods or the rain is really heavy, it won't be like before.) Dizon said he expects the waterway works to be continuous for two to three weeks, to prevent, if not lessen, flooding in the area. Parts of NLEX were flooded due to the recent rains brought by Tropical Cyclone Crising (international name: Wipha) and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, specifically in areas along the Valenzuela Interchange and the Paso de Blas entry and exit. NDRRMC: Reported death toll due to Habagat, Crising, Dante, Emong now 38
Flooding in Calumpit, Bulacan due to heavy rains from the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), July 2025. 24 Oras The reported death toll due to the effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong has reached 38, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday. Of this number, three deaths were confirmed and 35 are still for validation. Those injured numbered 33 — with 24 already validated and nine for validation. Meanwhile, those missing totalled eight — four validated and four still for validation. The number of those affected by the effects of the said weather disturbances reached 2,365,343 families or 8,592,630. Of this number, 24,771 families or 91,906 persons stayed inside 839 evacuation centers, while 32,320 families or 123,624 were outside evacuation centers. "A total of 73,015 damaged houses are reported in Region 1, Region 2, CAR, Region 3, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Region 5, Region 6, NIR, Region 7, Region 9, Region 10, Region 11, Region 12, CARAGA, BARMM," the NDRRMC said. Those partially damaged were 64,558 houses, while 8,457 suffered total damage. Agricultural damage was pegged at P3,277,533,297.68 in terms of production loss. "The estimated cost of damage to infrastructure amounting to Php 13,957,967,538.52 was reported in Region 1, Region 2, CAR, Region 3, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Region 5, Region 6, NIR, Region 10, Region 12," the NDRRMC said. 4,000 individuals in La Union affected by inclement weather receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Four thousand individuals in Bauang, La Union, who were affected by the inclement weather in the past few weeks have received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation through its Operation Bayanihan project. According to "24 Oras" Friday, among the beneficiaries of the project are husband and wife Paulo and Erlinda Hipol, whose house was devastated by the strong winds and rains. "Itong bagyo lang ho ang talagang naranasan ko talaga, siya ang nagpabagsak ng bahay ko," said Paulo. Paulo's life was also put at risk when a part of their collapsed house pinned him down. The couple has patched up wood scraps and iron sheets for temporary shelter, but food remains scarce. They have not yet returned to work selling fish because the fishermen have been unable to go out to sea.
