Former Pathikonda MLA Kangati Sridevi counters Minister's claims, highlights Jagan's welfare achievements

Pattikonda: Former MLA Kangati Sridevi strongly condemned the recent remarks made by the Labour Minister during his visit to Pattikonda. She criticized the coalition government, stating that they came to power in the previous elections by making false promises. Responding to the minister's claims on development, she said that 70% of the work under the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi project was completed during the previous TDP government, and alleged that the current government failed to provide even a single new ration card or pension during its early tenure.
Speaking to media persons on Sunday at Pathikonda, countered the allegations, Sridevi pointed out that by the time former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy assumed office in June 2019, only 12.7% of the Handri-Neeva project had been completed. She claimed that under Jagan's leadership from 2019 to 2024, nearly 80% of the project was completed and water was released. She added that in the last five years, around 4 lakh new ration cards were sanctioned and the number of pension beneficiaries rose from 39 lakh to 65 lakh across the state.
She also rebutted the Minister's claim that no welfare scheme was implemented for women. Highlighting the efforts of the YSRCP government, she said that loans worth Rs.25,570 crore were waived under YSR Aasara for 78.94 lakh women and Rs.19,189 crore was distributed to 26.98 lakh women under YSR Cheyutha. Furthermore, nearly 30 lakh house site pattas were given in the names of women and the Amma Vodi scheme also focused on empowering mothers, she added.
The former MLA called the Minister's comments baseless and laughable, questioning his awareness as a cabinet member. She rejected the 'psycho governance' label made by the Minister, asserting that the previous YSRCP regime ensured inclusive and welfare-oriented administration. She further accused the coalition government of misleading the public and declared that people, deceived once, are now ready to teach them a befitting lesson in the next elections. 'Welfare schemes are synonymous with the YSR family,' she stated.

Telangana sees drop in off-Budget borrowings, LS informed

HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary on Monday informed Lok Sabha that the off-Budget borrowings of the Telangana government reduced considerably since the time Congress was voted to power in the state. During the Question Hour, the minister said that the off-budget borrowings declared by the state were Rs 35,258 crore in 2021-22, Rs 9,597 crore in 2022-23, Rs 2,546 crore in 2023-24 and Rs 2,697 crore in 2024-25. Meanwhile, responding to a query raised by Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Pankaj Chaudhary said that the REC Limited has already granted a time extension for the completion of works until December, 2024 at the request of Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project Corporation (KIPCL). The rebate on interest rate may be considered upon the completion/closure of the project, the REC informed the state government. However, any change in loan amortisation schedule would result in the downgrade of KIPCL's account classification (from standard to Sub-standard) in the books of PFC/REC Ltd in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India, the Union Minister said.

"Deeply Grateful": Chhattisgarh Farmers Praise PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana

New Delhi: Farmers in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district are expressing heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the continued support through the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-Kisan scheme), which they say has brought significant changes to their agricultural lives and economic stability. One of the beneficiaries said, "I take benefit of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. Small and middle-class farmers like me are taking advantage of this scheme and achieving success in their farming endeavours. I am deeply grateful to Prime Minister Modi for providing us with the benefits of this scheme." Another farmer added, "There was a time when we had to borrow money from moneylenders to buy seeds and fertilisers. Now, with the money from PM-Kisan, we can manage our farming without loans. This scheme has brought prosperity and hope back into our lives." The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a flagship initiative of the Central government, launched to provide income support to all landholding farmer families across the country. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually, in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000, directly into their bank accounts. In Dhamtari, more than 1 lakh farmers are currently benefiting from this scheme. In the latest instalment, the 20th since the scheme's inception, over Rs 22 crore has been credited directly to farmers' accounts in the district, offering a timely boost to their agricultural activities. "Earlier, farming was a loss-making activity. Many of us thought of leaving it altogether. But now, due to PM Modi's vision and schemes like PM-Kisan, we see farming as a viable and dignified profession," said another farmer. Officials in the district noted that the scheme not only provides financial relief but also instills confidence in farmers to continue cultivation with better inputs and improved planning. Once struggling with debts and dwindling incomes, farmers in Dhamtari now say they feel empowered and self-reliant. The PM-Kisan scheme is widely seen as a transformative step for small and marginal farmers, giving them direct access to financial aid without intermediaries. With growing enrollment and timely payouts, PM-Kisan is becoming a lifeline for countless farming families across India.

Health, Quality In Focus In Andhra Pradesh's New Liquor Policy

The Andhra Pradesh government is set to introduce a new liquor policy from September 1, with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu emphasising a shift in focus from revenue generation to public safety. The announcement follows a high-level review meeting of the Excise Department held at the Secretariat on Monday. The quality of liquor and health concerns regarding safety had become huge issues during the previous YSRCP government. The new policy, based on recommendations from a cabinet sub-committee, is designed to ensure the availability of quality liquor and mitigate the health risks associated with alcohol consumption. The Chief Minister highlighted that promoting beverages with lower alcohol content could be a key strategy in this regard. He also recalled the previous administration's tenure, which he said was marked by the availability of poor-quality liquor that had a devastating impact on many families. A key change in the new policy, which will replace the one expiring on August 31, is a lottery system for allotting bar licenses. The government currently has 840 bars operating in the state. The cabinet sub-committee has proposed a tiered annual license fee structure based on population: Rs 35 lakh for areas with less than 50,000 people, Rs 55 lakh for areas with population up to 5 lakh, and Rs 75 lakh for those above 5 lakh. To qualify for the lottery, a minimum of four applications will be required for each bar license. In a move aimed at social inclusion, the Chief Minister has directed that 10 per cent of all bar licenses be reserved for Backward Classes (BC) communities. This mirrors a similar reservation policy already in place for liquor retail outlets in the state. Officials estimate that the new policy will generate approximately Rs 700 crore in revenue from application and license fees. During the meeting, officials also provided a progress report on efforts to curb illegal liquor. They informed the Chief Minister that 12 districts in the state have been declared completely Illicitly Distilled (ID) liquor-free, with plans to extend this to an additional eight districts this month and the remaining six by September. Officials also noted that the availability of quality, reasonably priced liquor in Andhra Pradesh has led to a significant increase in sales near border areas, while sales in neighbouring states have declined. This, they explained, has also helped in curbing the illegal transportation of liquor from other states.
