Vzm police get 16 new motorcycles
Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal inspected the bikes at district police office premises.
Speaking on the occasion, SP Vakul Jindal said that the allocation includes 15 TVS Apache motorcycles and one Royal Enfield, all equipped with advanced features such as sirens, blinkers, public addressing systems and crowd control equipment. These modern motorcycles are designed to ensure effective enforcement of traffic rules and rapid response to road-related incidents.
He added that these vehicles will be deployed at police stations located in areas prone to traffic congestion and frequent road accidents. The motorcycles will help police personnel reach incident locations promptly, especially in interior and remote areas where four-wheelers may not be accessible. In addition to quick response, these motorcycles will also be used to conduct awareness campaigns on traffic rules and road safety among the public, particularly at major junctions and traffic hubs, the SP noted. 100,000 hectares of Kerala's rubber untapped despite rising national demand
KOCHI: Nearly 100,000 hectares of rubber plantations in Kerala remain untapped, primarily due to ageing trees, owners migrating abroad, and a shortage of rubber tappers, according to the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA). Across India, the total untapped rubber cultivation area exceeds 200,000 hectares. This comes as the country imports 40-45% of its annual natural rubber (NR) demand, estimated at 1.4 million tonnes, say officials from the representative body of six major Indian tyre companies, which account for over 90% of the nation's tyre production. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Arun Mammen, Chairman of ATMA, highlighted that nearly 40% of the industry's natural rubber (NR) needs are currently met by imports due to limited domestic supply. Most Indian-produced NR is consumed locally, leaving very little for export. To tackle this shortage, the tyre industry, guided by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, teamed up with the Rubber Board of India to launch Project INROAD.

Royal Enfield Scram 440 Bookings, Sales Resume After Hiatus
Royal Enfield launched the Scram 440 in the Indian market back in January 2025. Following the natural path of its initial lifecycle, the motorcycle entered the market and was up for consumers to book. However, some mechanical issues disrupted the process in the motorcycle's engine. Now, the brand seems to have resolved the problem to bring the bookings and sales back on track. The issue with the bike was identified in a component called Woodfruff key within the magneto. This prevented the isolated motorcycles' engines from starting after running for some time. The engine did not stall mid-ride. However, certain units refused to restart after having been turned off. Diving into the specifics, the motorcycle is priced starting at Rs 2.08 lakh (ex-showroom) and features a design reminiscent of the Scram 411. It showcases a circular LED headlamp that emphasizes the neo-retro appeal of the bike. This is further enhanced by a somewhat boxy fuel tank that displays the Royal Enfield logo on its side. The overall look is finished off with a visible chassis and a single-piece seat. Royal Enfield is also providing 19/17-inch spoke wheels, along with an option for alloy wheels on the Force variant. The bike's aesthetics are further complemented by color options such as Trail Green, Trail Blue, Force Teal, Force Grey, and Force Blue. Constructed on a half-duplex split cradle frame, the motorcycle features 41 mm telescopic front forks for suspension, while the rear is equipped with a mono-shock and linkage system. The front braking system uses a 300 mm disc paired with a two-piston floating caliper. In contrast, the rear braking system comprises a 240 mm disc supported by a single-piston floating caliper. It is important to highlight that all of these results in a dry weight of 187 kg. As part of its enhanced technology, the motorcycle includes a digital-analog display. The Royal Enfield Scram 440 is powered by a 443 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. This engine is engineered to generate 25 hp of power at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm of maximum torque at 4,000 rpm. The generated power is delivered to the rear wheel through a six-speed transmission featuring a wet multi-plate clutch.

Braking duty is the responsibility of a 290 mm single-disc brake at the front end and a 220 mm single-disc at the rear end, both working with dual-piston callipers. Mechanically, the bike is the same as its predecessor and comes equipped with a liquid-cooled, parallel twin-cylinder 296 cc engine, generating 38 hp at 11,000 rpm and 26.1 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm. It features a 6-speed return transmission with Assist & Slipper Clutch. With these specifications, the bike stands as a worthy rival to competitors like the KTM RC 390, Yamaha R3, and Aprilia RS 457 in the Indian market.
