Musiala suffers broken leg and dislocated ankle

Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala will be out for a "long period" after suffering a broken leg and dislocated ankle during Saturday's World Cup Club defeat by Paris St-Germain.The 22-year-old was injured in the first half when he was caught by keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma while chasing down a ball near the byeline.Musiala, who screamed in agony as he clutched his left ankle, covered his face with his shirt when he was taken off on a stretcher. The attacking midfielder was taken to hospital for assessment and has now flown back to Munich for surgery."This serious injury and the long absence are a real shock for Jamal and all of us. This hits FC Bayern hard," said Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl."Everyone knows how immensely important Jamal is for our game and what a central role he plays for our team. Furthermore, the human impact is incredibly bitter; we all feel for him: Jamal has just recovered from an injury and will now be out for another long period. "He will get everything he needs from us. We will support him intensively and be by his side, and we are already looking forward to him being back on the pitch."Donnarumma averted his eyes after looking over at Musiala's injury, while Bayern's players were distraught as the Germany international was attended to by club physios.Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer called Donnarumma's challenge "risky" and criticised the Italy international's conduct."You just accept that your opponent might get injured. It could even be a team-mate," said Neuer."So I went over to him and said: 'Don't you want' - because it was half-time anyway - 'don't you want to go over there? Jamal is lying there, he'll probably stay in the hospital, he has a serious injury, and I think it's only right to go over there out of respect and wish him well and just say a little sorry.'"After that, he went over to Jamal. Fairness is always important, and I would have reacted differently."Following the match, Donnarumma said "all my prayers and well wishes are with you Jamal" in a social media post.

Haverfordwest 'better prepared' for European bid

Haverfordwest County begin their second Uefa Conference League adventure in three seasons against Floriana on Tuesday (18:30 BST) with boss Tony Pennock confident the Bluebirds are better prepared for the competition this time claimed a memorable victory over North Macedonia's Shkendija in 2023-24, when they were playing in Europe for the first time in 22 years on, Pennock believes Haverfordwest have a greater chance of making a mark in the Conference League thanks to increased experience and depth in his men are in Malta for their first qualifying round first leg at the Centenary Stadium before the return fixture at Parc y Scarlets on Thursday, 17 July."We are better prepared than last time," Pennock said. "A lot of our players were involved two years ago so they have that experience, and we are coming into this on the back of a really good season in the Cymru Premier."As a club, too, we knew all the things we needed to have in place for Europe, whereas that was all new for us two years ago."In 2024, Haverfordwest claimed the first European win in their history as they overcame Shkendija on penalties at the Cardiff City Stadium, before losing out to B36 Torshavn in the second qualifying round. This year, a meeting with Kosovan side Ballkani is the prize on offer as Haverfordwest take on Floriana, who finished third in the Maltese league last money in the competition is significant for Haverfordwest, who have earned around £280,000 for reaching this stage and will be around £170,000 more should they progress."Nobody can hide away from the fact that getting into Europe is financially rewarding, although you can get ties where a lot of the money goes on sorting out the trip and everything that goes with it," Pennock said."In fairness, the chairman has given us what we want in terms of flights and hotels to give us the best opportunity to get through."Haverfordwest, who finished third in the Welsh top flight last season, will start as underdogs against Floriana – but that is not a concern for Pennock."They are a seeded team and we are not, but two years ago Shkendija were a high-seeded team and we got through that," he added."The big thing going away from home first is to make sure we are still in the tie going into the second leg, which hopefully will be a good occasion that everybody enjoys."Haverfordwest's home leg is to be held at Parc y Scarlets in Llanelli because their Bridge Meadow home does not meet Uefa standards for European games.

Revealed: Why Arsenal really 'chose Victor Gyokeres over Benjamin Sesko' after 'Gunners staff were split' on who to sign

Arsenal appeared to make a breakthrough in their pursuit of a striker on Sunday when it was reported that they had advanced talks with Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres. The Gunners have been keen to strengthen in the final third after finishing without silverware once again last season and identified Gyokeres, 27, and RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as two of their top targets. A potential deal for Gyokeres - which would see him swap Lisbon for London - could be worth up to £70million. Talks have taken place over the structure of achievable bonus payments on the fee with Gyokeres having already agreed personal terms on a five year contract. They came following interest in Sesko from Mikel Arteta 's side - which appeared to hit a stumbling block. Now, it can be revealed why Arsenal opted for Gyokeres instead of Sesko as they chase a first Premier League title in over 20 years. According to Portuguese outlet Record, Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta have 'definitively abandoned' a deal for the latter. The publication claims that Leipzig demanded a fee of €80million for the player, while Arsenal only offered €70million. The report also says that the Bundesliga side wanted €40million of that fee paid up front - a figure deemed too hefty for the north Londoners' liking. Arsenal then pivoted to Gyokeres after personal terms with Sesko allegedly reached an 'impasse', with Arteta seemingly impatient for a striker to arrive before his team's pre-season friendlies begin. But the Gunners' pursuit of Gyokeres is not yet finalised, as there still said to be differences in how the transfer is paid. Arsenal are reportedly keen to offer a fee of €65million plus a further €15million in add-ons while Sporting's club president Frederico Varandas wants Frederico Varandas €70million before add-ons are taken into account. The news of Gyokeres' potential move to north London comes after Arsenal confirmed their first big signing of the summer in Martin Zubimendi. Zubimendi, 26, has signed a five-year deal with the Gunners, who were able to beat Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City to his signature. Zubimendi, 26, has signed a five-year deal with the Gunners in what marks their first significant spending of the summer The Spanish international has long been courted by Mikel Arteta 's side, who have now finally managed to land one of their key targets. Arsenal confirmed the signing of Zubimendi in a video posted to X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday afternoon, adding that he will wear the number 36 shirt. The Spaniard made 180 appearances in LaLiga for Real Sociedad after coming through their academy setup and has 18 caps for the Spanish national team. While MailSport exclusively revealed in January that Arsenal had landed Zubimendi, the LaLiga side did not want to lose such a key player in the middle of the season.
