In another spectacular chess triumph for India, 19-year-old Divya Deshmukh emerged as the torchbearer of a new generation. The Nagpur native scripted history by winning the FIDE Women's World Cup 2025, defeating veteran Koneru Humpy in a nerve-wracking tiebreaker on Monday.
With this win, Divya not only claimed one of the most prestigious titles in women's chess but also earned the coveted Grandmaster (GM) title, a feat no one expected at the tournament's start.
'I didn't even have a single GM norm before this. Now, I'm a Grandmaster. It feels surreal,' said an emotional Divya, overwhelmed after her victory against an opponent twice her age. She became only the fourth Indian woman to achieve GM status, following in the footsteps of Humpy, Harika Dronavalli, and Vaishali Rameshbabu.

'Draw Was The Goal': Steyn Slams Jadeja And Sundar For Hunting 'Free Milestones'

Dale Steyn feels that once Indian batters had accomplished their goal of saving the 4th Test against England, the gentlemanly thing was to accept the draw. India's refusal to accept England's offer to end the 4th Test in Manchester prematurely with the contest seemingly heading towards a draw has polarised the cricket world. India have been backed for playing within the rule while England have been called out for 'whining' and forcing other teams to act according to their wishes. Fast bowling legend Dale Steyn though seems to be siding with England claiming that since Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were batting for a draw, the 'gentlemanly' thing to do was to accept Ben Stokes offer for a handshake to end the contest after the duo had ensured that only one result was possible. Stokes approached Jadeja with a handshake as the play entered the final hour on the fifth day in Manchester, but it was turned down leaving England players bemused. Both completed their well-deserved hundreds before the Test concluded. South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi bared his support for the Indian team after they exercised their right to not accept England's offer for a draw. 'Why is there such a big deal being made about the Indians choosing not to accept the offer to end the game in a draw immediately? The offer was offer was rejected n they were fully entitled to make their choice. They got their 100s which they worked hard for. Game over," Shamsi posted on X. 'Shamo (Shamsi) this onion has many layers to it, and each one will make someone cry. The only issue I see here is the one thing people aren't realizing, the batters weren't playing for 100s, they were batting for a DRAW. That was the goal," Steyn wrote. 'Draw the game. Once that was accomplished, and a result was out of the question a handshake was offered, that's the gentlemanly thing to do right? It's not then the time to realize they safe and now say no we'd prefer some free milestones… although within the rules, just seems a little, well, odd. That said, they did bat well, and maybe with the last hour approaching they should have been more aggressive in reaching those milestones, at least then, we could all agree, no team tried to out do the other in this weird situation," he added. view comments First Published: July 29, 2025, 08:07 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'My whole body looks better' – Luka Doncic finally breaks silence on how he achieved his new jacked physique

Luka Doncic. Image via: Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images Luka Doncic has heard all the chatter — the criticisms, the doubts, the memes. Now, the five-time NBA All-Star is answering back not with words, but with muscle. After years of enduring digs about his fitness, Doncic has undergone a dramatic physical transformation that has fans, teammates, and even critics taking notice. 'Just visually, I would say my whole body looks better,' he says. And he means it — inside and out. Luka Doncic opens up about his shredded physique It all started after what many called the most difficult year of Luka Doncic's career. A calf injury, a trade to the Lakers, and a rough playoff exit lit a fire under him. One day after the Lakers' first-round elimination, Doncic texted his manager to begin his offseason grind. 'This summer was just a little bit different, you know. It kind of motivated me to be even better,' he explained. — LegionHoops (@LegionHoops) A meticulous transformation followed. In a quiet town in Croatia, Doncic set up a private training facility. He flew in weights, worked through grueling two-a-days, and paired resistance band drills with Romanian deadlifts. As for his nutrition, it was a strict gluten-free, low-sugar plan with 250 grams of protein daily. That included two high-protein meals and one almond milk protein shake — all timed around his fasted workouts. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indonesia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo His goal was not to be the leanest man in the room — but the strongest, the most efficient, the most explosive. 'If I stop now,' Doncic said, 'it was all for nothing.' Team Luka and the Pursuit of Longevity Doncic didn't do it alone. Behind the scenes, 'Team Luka' — a group of specialists including trainer Anže Maček, physio Javier Barrio, and nutritionist Lucia Almendros — crafted a program that elevated not just his looks, but his biomechanics. They emphasized eccentric force, deceleration, and body control. 'Not everything is jumping high,' Doncic pointed out. 'I think I'm very athletic in other stuff. Balancing, controlling my body, what I do when I stop, slowing down.' He even took a full month off basketball to let his body reset, picking up pickleball and padel instead. When he finally returned to the court, it wasn't long before he noticed the change, in the mirror and on the hardwood. Now 26, Doncic is setting the tone for the next phase of his career. 'This year, with my team, I think we did a huge step. But this is just the start, you know. I need to keep going. Can't stop.' Now, it is clear that he's coming for a legacy in the NBA.
