Marvel's ‘Thunderbolts*' Get Digital Release Date
Rated PG-13, Thunderbolts* opened in theaters on May 2. The official summary for the film reads, The official summary for the film reads, 'Marvel Studios assembles an unconventional team of antiheroes — Yelena Belova (Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Stan), Red Guardian (Harbour), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) and John Walker (Wyatt Russell).
'After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss), these disillusioned castoffs must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts. Will this dysfunctional group tear themselves apart, or find redemption and unite as something much more before it's too late?'
Directed by Jake Scheier, Thunderbolts*, also stars Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer and Wendell Pierce.
Thunderbolts*, aka The New Avengers, will be released on digital streaming via premium on demand on Tuesday, July 1, as indicated by a new listing on Prime Video.
The film will be available to purchase on such digital platforms as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube for $29.99. Since PVOD rentals are $5 less than purchases, viewers can expect to rent the film for $24.99 for 48 hours.
Thunderbolts* has earned nearly $188.7 million in North American ticket sales and $191 million internationally for a worldwide box office gross of $379.7 million against a production budget of $180 million before prints and advertising costs, per The Numbers.
Thunderbolts* earned an 88% 'fresh' rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics based on 345 reviews. The RT Critics Consensus reads, 'Assembling a ragtag band of underdogs with Florence Pugh as their magnetic standout, Thunderbolts* refreshingly returns to the tried-and-true blueprint of the MCU's best adventures.'
The film also earned a 93% 'fresh' score on RT's Popcornmeter based on 10,000-plus viewer ratings. The RT audience summary for the film reads, 'With a team that can raise glory, Thunderbolts* is massively entertaining and delivers everything we love out of a Marvel outing. *The New Avengers.'
Thunderbolts* will be released on digital streaming on July 1.

David Corenswet Says 'No Plan' Might Be the Best Plan for DCU as James Gunn Scraps a 'Darker' Ending for Superman — GeekTyrant
While there's plenty of anticipation surrounding James Gunn's reboot of the DC Universe, don't expect a tightly mapped-out, 10-year MCU-style blueprint. According to Superman star David Corenswet, that might actually be a good thing. Speaking to ScreenRant, the new Man of Steel explained why Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran are taking a looser, film-first approach. Corenswet said: 'I mean, [I know] essentially nothing. Essentially just that he means it when he says that no plan is better than the quality of the scripts and the directors who he and Peter have to do them. 'I know very little about the comic book fandom, and the idea of getting a timeline announcement. I know very little about that. But I know it's a thing, and I know that, for better or for worse, they will compromise a timeline rather than compromise a film.' Some fans might see that as a refreshing perspective, especially in an era where fans are trained to expect sprawling timelines, multi-year slates, and interlocked stories. Corenswet added: 'If people knew what goes into getting a movie together and making a movie, they'd understand that if you stick too closely to the plan, you're going to end up compromising on the things that are actually important... 'So that's the guiding light for him and Peter moving forward. There are some things coming up, but that's the main principle and that's a good person to be working for.' Still, the lack of a concrete DCU rollout has left other fans puzzled. Projects like Clayface , Wonder Woman , and others are in development, but very little from the original Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters slate has materialized, and no titles are officially dated for 2027. But, Gunn has made it clear that he is prioritizing story over schedule. In a separate interview with Collider, Gunn shared that Project Hail Mary screenwriter Drew Goddard played a key role in shaping the tone of Superman , specifically by steering the filmmaker away from a darker finale. Gunn shared: 'Drew Goddard was really helpful. I think that there were a couple of little things in the movie, three or four things that we really argued about in the film, and all of them had to do with things that were a little bit darker or a little bit lighter. 'In discussing one of them, Drew Goddard was like, 'You know what? It's just not that film. It's not that film with this little dark ending bit.'' Gunn agreed, saying the note stuck with him through the editing process: 'And I thought, 'He's right. It's not that film. It is not that film.' And so that line that he said stuck with me for the rest of editing.' Gunn also mentioned he showed the film to a range of creative voices, including Peter Safran, Chantal Nong, Jason Reitman, Damon Lindelof, and others. 'They were so helpful,' he added. It's clear that Superman is a collaborative effort, less a corporate product and more a film shaped by trusted storytellers, which is nice. I hope that it works! Superman flies into theaters on July 11, 2025, and while the rest of the DCU may not be carved in stone yet, it seems Gunn's priority is simple: make great movies first, worry about the roadmap later.

JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH Almost Had a Much Darker Ending — GeekTyrant
Big-budget blockbusters are often built on shifting sand. Scripts are tweaked on the fly, storylines morph during post, and entire endings get rewritten just before the final cut. Jurassic World Rebirth was no exception. According to director Gareth Edwards, this dinosaur-packed chapter almost ended with a gut punch fans weren't expecting. Spoiler warning if you haven't seen the film yet. One of the most crowd-pleasing moments in Jurassic World: Rebirth is the surprise return of Mahershala Ali's Duncan Kincaid, the grizzled mercenary who buys time for a group of trapped kids by luring the terrifying new mutated dinosaur, Distortus Rex, away with a flare. For a few tense minutes, it looks like that's the end of Kincaid, making a noble sacrifice to save others from being eaten. Then, just when you think he's being digested in the stomach of the monsterous dino, he stumbles back onto the scene alive. Cue applause. But that wasn't always the plan. Edwards told /Film: 'I'll tell you, the bit we did shoot two versions of is Kincaid living and dying. Basically, the version where he dies, you just don't have the other bit [where he reappears]. But because that was how it was written to start with and we filmed it and did everything as if he was going to die, everything felt correct. 'As an audience you go, 'Oh my God, he's going to actually die, of course he is,' and then he does. Then when he's brought back, I think it is a surprise. Then I felt like, 'Oh no, what if the audience thinks we copped out?' 'I would remind myself of E.T. , which is the masterpiece version of this, where I never felt that at all in E.T. I felt really sad [laughs] that he had gone, and then euphoric when he was back. It was kind of like a little version of that, where you sort of pray: 'Is the audience going to ...?' 'And then watching it the other night [at the New York premiere], it got the best reaction in that moment and I was really like, 'Oh my God, thank God we shot that version where he lived because it could have been quite a downer [laughs].'' It's a rare case where a reshoot didn't just fix a problem, it elevated the entire ending. But that wasn't the only thing on the chopping block. You know that moment in every Jurassic movie where the T-Rex swoops in like a prehistoric deus ex machina to save the day? Edwards nearly gave in to that tradition. But this time, cooler heads prevailed. 'I thought about — that came up. It didn't come up on the shoot, it came up in post-production where I just suddenly, I guess, I woke up in a cold sweat one night and was like, 'Should we, should we have the T-rex turn up?' [laughs] I went in the next day and brought this up with everybody and I expected everyone to go, 'Yeahhh' [enthusiastically], and it was just a reaction like, 'Really? But all the other ones did that.' It slightly kind of reassured me like, 'Okay, I think that we did the right thing.' 'But there's this storytelling thing called [deus] ex machina and it's like Latin, I think, for God basically coming and saving your characters at the end of a story. I think 'Jurassic' has this thing called 'Rex Machina,' where it's like the T-rex comes and saves everyone. 'I remember David Vickery, the visual effects supervisor, he was like, 'But that's one of the things I loved about this film, is that it didn't do what the other ones did,' and all this sort of stuff. Yeah, you do juggle these — there's like, what's the right thing here? You try and choose the right path.' Instead of yet another dino-vs-dino finale, the Distortus Rex remains a looming threat, Kincaid survives, and we're left with the kind of open-ended finale leaving the door open for a sequel.
