Skoda Turned an Old Hatchback Into an Awesome New Concept

Motor 128-05-2025
The Skoda Favorit isn't a car we know well in America. The hatchback, designed by Bertone, launched in 1987 and was a massive success for the brand. Now, in 2025, Skoda has reimagined the Favorit with the brand's latest design language, but it features a few styling quirks that preserve the past with a modern twist.
The new Favorit concept retains the original's simple and clean design, rounding off some of the sharper edges, such as integrating the door handles into a single opening between the front and rear doors. The new interpretation is also bigger than its predecessor, adopting a crossover-like stance to appease modern sensibilities.

It features "the spirit" of the brand's Modern Solid design language but with a few noticeable changes. The front of the concept forgoes Skoda Tech-Deck Face, a new corporate look for the brand's vehicles, and adopts something unique.
One of the concept's more striking features is the lights. The Favorit adopts thin LED elements front and rear, with illuminated badging on the hatch. There are translucent covers over the lights that one of the designers, David Stingl, said could fold away when the headlights are needed. The designers even imagined a racing version with plastic cladding and other sporty touches.

Designer Ljudmil Slavov said he imagined the new hatch as an electric vehicle, which would greatly benefit its performance capability. The original Favorit had a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine producing between 54 and 67 horsepower, which would not cut it on today's roads. However, since electric motors are small and powerful, they would likely turn a new Favorit into an incredible performance hatchback we still wouldn't get to enjoy in America.
But we can dream.

2007 Bugatti Veyron Sets Auction Record with $2 Million Sale

Read the full story on Modern Car Collector A 2007 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 has set a new benchmark for the model at auction, selling for a staggering £1,527,000—equivalent to just over $2.04 million—during Bonhams' prestigious sale at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Modern Collector Essentials: The Best Products for Cars with Matte Paint or Satin Wraps The hammer price marks the highest amount ever paid for a standard-production Veyron at public auction, surpassing previous records by a significant margin. While special-edition models like the Veyron Super Sport or Grand Sport Vitesse have fetched lofty sums in private sales, this standard 16.4 coupe now stands as the most expensive example of its kind ever publicly sold. Originally launched in the mid-2000s, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 revolutionized the hypercar world with its 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine producing 1,001 horsepower. It was the first production car to exceed 250 mph, and its blend of engineering, performance, and exclusivity cemented its place in automotive history. Just 450 Veyrons were produced globally across various trims between 2005 and 2015. The record-breaking 2007 example featured low mileage and a pristine factory-correct condition, making it particularly attractive to collectors. While Bonhams had estimated the car would sell for a figure well below its final bid, spirited competition among bidders quickly pushed the price skyward. 10 Must-Have Tools and Gear for the Modern Car Collector (Amazon Edition) Auction observers note the sale as a strong indicator of the market's growing appetite for early-2000s hypercars. With values for models like the Ferrari Enzo and Porsche Carrera GT already surging, the Veyron's newfound status as a record-breaker could signal broader appreciation for the era's groundbreaking performance machines. This latest milestone confirms that, nearly two decades after its debut, the Veyron still commands awe—and astonishing prices. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter

(NYSE:GLOB) in its second quarter 2025 investor letter: "Shares of IT services provider Globant S.A. (NYSE:GLOB) fell 22.8% after the company reported weaker-than-expected financial results and cut guidance. Revenues grew 7% in the first quarter and are expected to slow further given full-year revenue growth guidance of 2%. Management attributed the slowdown to macroeconomic uncertainty, tariffs, and weakness in certain geographies. Globant's performance had been resilient despite the broader softness in IT services spending, so this slowdown was especially disappointing. We continue to own the stock because we believe Globant has a long runway for growth in a very large global market for IT services."
