KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Co-Investment Fund (MyCIF) total co-investments have reached RM1.19 billion as of end-2024 since its inception, with RM264 million invested in 2024 alone.
MyCIF said it has attracted 4.1 times in private sector funding for every ringgit invested, demonstrating a strong crowding-in effect, which led to a 21.4 per cent increase in total private investment.
"The RM1.19 billion in total co-investments by MyCIF represent 4.6 times the RM260 million in total funds disbursed by the government to date into the programme, demonstrating efficient use of public funds," it said in a statement today.
Set up by the Ministry of Finance (MoF) under Budget 2019, MyCIF has played a pivotal role in the financing landscape by utilising equity crowdfunding (ECF) and peer-to-peer (P2P) financing platforms to channel funds into micro, small and medium enterprises.
In addition to the general scheme 1:4 co-investment, MyCIF continues to support strategic and underserved segments of the economy through targeted schemes, including food security and environmental and social enterprise initiatives with a preferential 1:2 co-investment ratio.
Co-investments in these segments rose to RM7 million in 2024 from RM3.4 million in 2023, reflecting MyCIF's strengthened commitment to targeted investment areas.
Under Budget 2025, MyCIF has earmarked up to RM40 million for promoting innovative Islamic risk-sharing financing through ECF and P2P platforms, it said.
"This allocation complements existing MyCIF schemes and aims to encourage wider adoption of Islamic financing structures, based on Musharakah and Mudharabah concepts.
"It will do so by investing on a first-loss basis in ECF and P2P campaigns grounded in Islamic risk-sharing models, and additionally by offering zero per cent financing rates for selected P2P campaigns," it added. - Bernama

RM60 million Sandakan Islamic Centre to complete in December

Kota Kinabalu: Construction of the RM60m Sandakan Islamic Centre has reached 66pc completion and is expected to be fully finished by the end of December, said Sandakan Municipal Council President Walter Kenson. The modern complex, inspired by Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman, is scheduled to be operational in time for Hari Raya Aidilfitri next year, with a formal launch targeted for Hari Raya 2026. 'We're aiming to complete it by the end of this year so it can be fully used by next year's Hari Raya,' Walter told reporters following a courtesy visit to Tun Musa at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Thursday. He added that the design of the centre incorporates motifs and finishes from Uzbekistan, adapted to local Sabah aesthetics. 'The progress has been very positive. We've sought Tun's approval on several design elements, especially for the main prayer hall, the multipurpose hall, and the VIP lounge. 'Tun had requested that certain features from Uzbekistan be integrated into these key spaces in harmony with local designs,' Walter said. In a statement, Tun Musa Aman expressed satisfaction with the centre's steady progress, calling it a future landmark of Islamic development in Sabah's east coast. 'This centre will serve not only as a place of worship and education, but also as a unifying hub for multi-ethnic and multi-faith communities through an inclusive and harmonious approach to dakwah,' he said. He also extended his gratitude to all involved, especially the Sabah Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains) and the State Government, for their commitment to uplifting the ummah and broader community welfare. The project began in 2017 on a 5.2-hectare site along Jalan Sungai Kayu, Sandakan. However, it faced several delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic and political instability in the state. Once completed, the centre will feature a range of facilities including a kindergarten, tahfiz school, administrative offices for JHEAINS, MUIS and Baitulmal, a multipurpose hall, and a main prayer hall capable of accommodating over 1,000 congregants. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Engineer loses RM178,200 in online investment scam

PASIR GUDANG: An engineer lost RM178,200 after falling victim to an online stock investment scam that promised high returns via WhatsApp. Seri Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the 33-year-old female victim lodged a police report yesterday, saying that an investment syndicate had scammed her since March. "The victim was initially attracted after seeing a stock investment advertisement on the Telegram app and followed a provided link. She was promised high profits in a short time. The victim then made 19 transactions into three different bank accounts from March to July, involving a total amount of RM178,200," he said in a statement. Sohaimi added that the victim only realised she had been scammed when she was asked to make additional payments to withdraw her capital and profits. Initial police investigations found that all the bank accounts involved had 21 prior police reports related to investment fraud. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, and also involves the use of mule accounts. "The police advise the public not to be easily deceived by any investment schemes that promise high returns. "Always be cautious and verify the legitimacy of any company or individual offering investments before making any payments. "The public should check with the Securities Commission Malaysia, avoid trusting promises of quick riches, and use the Semak Mule portal to verify suspicious accounts before any transactions,".
