2025 Emmy nominations full list: 'Severance' leads with 27 nods, as 'The Penguin,' 'The Studio' and 'The White Lotus' follow closely behind
The nominees for television's best shows and performances from the past year, as chosen by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, were presented live by actors Harvey Guillén (What We Do in the Shadows) and Brenda Song (Running Point).

Ron Howard Earns His First-Ever Acting Nomination at the 2025 Emmys for Guest Starring Role as Himself in 'The Studio'
The Studio had an impressive showing at the 2025 Emmy Awards nominations The Seth Rogen-led comedy series earned a whopping 23 nominations this year, including six nods in the guest star categories Ron Howard was among the nominees and it marks his first-ever acting nominationThe Studio made a splash amongst the list of nominees for the 2025 Emmy Awards, and even Ron Howard made the list in an acting category. On Tuesday, July 15, Brenda Song and Harvey Guillén announced this year's nominations and the Seth Rogen-helmed Apple TV+ comedy series earned a whopping 23 nominations. Among those are nominations for Rogen himself for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series, as well as his costars Kathryn Hahn and Catherine O'Hara for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series. Ike Barinholtz also scored a nomination in the outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series category. Howard — who began his career in Hollywood as a child star and famously played Richie Cunningham on Happy Days — earned his first-ever Emmy nomination for acting. His performance in The Studio garnered him a nod for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series. The nomination is the acclaimed director's 14th ever at the Emmys, and he has won three times — for the documentary Jim Henson Idea Man last year, Arrested Development in 2004, and From The Earth To The Moon in 1998. The other guest stars from The Studio joining him in the category are: Dave Franco, Martin Scorsese, Bryan Cranston and Anthony Mackie. Zoë Kravitz also earned a nomination for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series. Mackie, 46, and Howard, 71, overlapped in episode 3 as they worked together on the fictional film Alphabet City, which Franco also "starred" in. During the episode, Howard broke down crying during a meeting with Rogen's studio head Matt Remick over his critique of the film — and things really crashed and burned when Rogen fell into and destroyed a bar cart after Howard threw his signature baseball hat at him in anger. Rogen, who co-created the series with Evan Goldberg, told PEOPLE that the director was "so game and so good and really tried so hard" during his days on set. "[He] worked really hard on the performance and the role and yeah, he was very impressive," he recalled. Howard also brought some of his own ideas to the scenes, Rogen shared. "It was his idea to throw his patented Imagine hat at me, which I thought was a true stroke of genius," Rogen said. "For him to weaponize his trademark look was a really miraculously funny idea." ‘An absolute cherry on top': Ron Howard on his first-ever acting Emmy nomination for ‘The Studio'
There's a first time for everything. Just ask Ron Howard. Despite a TV acting career that dates back to 1960's The Andy Griffith Show and includes the hugely popular Happy Days, it wasn't until Tuesday that Howard landed his first acting Emmy nomination for his guest-starring role in Apple TV+'s The Studio. 'It means a lot to me,' Howard tells Gold Derby about the honor. 'I've never had one, and of course much of my experience in television was acting.' How the drama shocked the Emmys The Oscar-winning filmmaker, who played a heightened version of himself in the comedy, called the nomination 'an absolute cherry on top,' and added, 'the whole experience in doing The Studio was such a blast. Evan [Goldberg] and Seth [Rogen] have that set completely wired for creativity and laughs, and I'm a huge fan of the show.' The critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series earned an impressive 23 Emmy nominations, the most of any comedy series this season. Howard's episode, The Note, centers around reluctance to give the famously nice director critical feedback about his film. 'I really wasn't playing myself because I was playing the asshole version of myself and a way out there asshole at that,' says Howard. 'It really was another character. I just would never do any of those things, say any of those things. But it was so cathartic, so fun to play a jerk. But it also did demand something more than just sort of a casual cameo or playful kind of appearance like I've done many, many times. And I had so much fun.' Howard is up against fellow Studio guest stars Bryan Cranston, Martin Scorsese, Dave Franco, and Anthony Mackie. The Bear's Jon Bernthal is the lone non-Studio thespian nominated in the category. What's it like to be nominated alongside another acclaimed director in the acting category? 'Marty's a good actor. I tried to cast him in a movie once, and he's tried to cast me a couple of times, and it's never come to fruition. Our schedules never aligned. I wasn't surprised in the least that he was excellent in the episode. And it's cool that the Academy noticed,' says Howard. The co-chair of Imagine says the three-day shooting schedule of The Studio was perfect for his busy schedule and whet his appetite for perhaps some more acting in the future. 'By the second or third day, I felt a little more comfortable in the thespian role. It made me feel like one of these days, if the right thing comes my way, I'm going to grab it.' As for the nomination, Howard says he's just taking it all in. 'To wind up with an Emmy nomination. I mean, come on, come on. It makes for one of those head shaking, smiling, kind of, you just never know.'
