Uttar Pradesh no longer 'lawless', has become 'best state': BJP MP Dinesh Sharma
LUCKNOW: BJP MP Dinesh Sharma has praised the 'transformation' of Uttar Pradesh under the BJP-led government, claiming that the state has shed its image of lawlessness and has now become the "best state".
"Everyone knows what kind of rule is prevailing in Uttar Pradesh. The era of lawlessness has ended, and now the rule of the people is in place... It took a considerable amount of time to transform Uttar Pradesh. Today, after 8 years, Uttar Pradesh has become not just excellent but the best state..."
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the state currently has 10 per cent forest cover and the goal is to raise it to 16 per cent.
"The campaign 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' that we started in alignment with the Prime Minister's vision on World Environment Day - June 5, 2025, is achieving new heights of success. On June 29, this campaign moved ahead, and on July 9, it will achieve a new height when 37 crore saplings will be planted across Uttar Pradesh... I am happy that the 210 crore tree plantation programs were successfully completed in 8 years. We now have 10 per cent forest cover.

We should aim for 16% of forest cover in Uttar Pradesh, which will equal the country's 16% population living in the state," CM Yogi Adityanath said.
He further said that PM Modi has decided that India will achieve the target of Net Zero in Carbon Emissions, and the government has made several transformations in this regard. "In 2017, when we had to conduct a plantation drive, we could hardly obtain five crore saplings from the nurseries of the forest department.
In 2025, we have 52 crore saplings - and are not of Eucalyptus or Popular but neem, mango, peepal," he said.
"I am happy that PM Modi's campaign to protect the environment by planting saplings - under 'Ek ped maa ke naam' campaign has been successful and to give it a newer heights, on July 9, a record number of saplings - over 37 crore will be planted in a single day," he added.

Vijay's TVK Rules Out Alliance with BJP, DMK for 2026
Published : Jul 07, 2025 14:10 IST - 5 MINS READ The line-up of alliances for the 2026 Assembly election in Tamil Nadu appears to be nearly complete with actor Vijay's party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), announcing that it will have no truck with the 'ideological enemy,' the BJP, or the 'political enemy,' the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has aligned with the BJP for the election, which rules out TVK joining hands with the AIADMK. TVK itself ensured that the AIADMK will not able to have any truck with it by announcing that Vijay will be the chief ministerial candidate. Speaking to Frontline recently, K.G. Arunraj, TVK's general secretary (propaganda and policy), had said: 'TVK does not need any tie-up with any party. Vijay is a phenomenon unlike anything Tamil Nadu politics has seen before. But we are still open to anyone who wants to be part of our front. We will welcome them.' Similar sentiments were expressed by senior leaders of the party in separate conversations with this correspondent. On the stage of an executive committee meeting on July 4, Vijay himself clarified, yet again, that his party does not need any of the established parties. 'TVK is not DMK or AIADMK to ally with the BJP for selfish political gains. If we form an alliance, it will always be against both the DMK and the BJP,' he thundered to the loud acceptance of the boisterous and partisan gathering of executive committee members, who are yet to transition from a fan club into a political party cadre. Also Read | Thalapathy Vijay's grand political entry stumbles on basic ideological contradictions Main alliances in fray There are two main alliances in the race for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election. One is led by the ruling DMK and includes the Congress, the Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and the Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK). This alliance, which also includes a few smaller sub-regional parties, has stayed intact since the 2019 Lok Sabha election. The AIADMK-led front has the BJP as the lead partner, although the national party's strength in the State is minuscule. A clutch of one-man parties, such as the ones run by John Pandian, A.C. Shanmugham, and Pari Vendhar, are also part of this alliance. But none of these parties have any heft and are largely in the front for the leaders' personal reasons and because the BJP is part of it. The two sub-regional parties that the front wants in its fold are the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) and the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK). Miffed over AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami not offering the DMDK a Rajya Sabha, party leader Premalatha announced that the party would make an announcement on alliances in January 2026. 'There is no need to hastily join anyone,' she told mediapersons, in response to a question, adding that any front that respects the DMDK's contribution will be the party's preferred alliance partner. PMK's internal troubles The PMK is in the middle of a huge internal dispute between founder and and current president S. Ramadoss and his son, Anbumani. Party sources said that Anbumani was keen on joining hands with the BJP but Ramadoss would have none of it. However, political analysts in the State insist that both father and son are essentially saying the same thing: Ramadoss is comfortable with an alliance with the AIADMK and the son wants to tie up with the BJP. Since both are in the same alliance, there should not be a problem. But the issue has now been sucked into family war turf. Every day there are expulsions and counter expulsions. For instance, on July 5, Ramadoss threw Anbumani out of an executive body, only for Anbumani's advisor Arul Rathinam to hit out, claiming that the expulsion had no effect because Ramadoss had no powers to do so. Anbumani is on record saying that he is now president and cannot be removed by anyone barring the elected general council. Anbumani has packed this forum with his supporters. There have been several mediation efforts but given the complex situation in the PMK, no such ceasefire talks have been effective so far. The PMK is still quite the force in some northern Tamil Nadu constituencies where it can be the deciding factor. This is why Palaniswami called all like-minded parties to join hands against the DMK. 'It is our objective that all like-minded parties should come together and contest the election,' Palaniswami told mediapersons on July 5. Asked if he will join hands with TVK, he said: 'We will be happy to align with those who want to remove the DMK government.' Also Read | Ramadoss-Anbumani face off as PMK's general council meeting turns stormy AIADMK, BJP begin outreach On July 7, Palaniswami began his State-wide public outreach tour from Coimbatore to make people of Tamil Nadu aware of the 'anti-people policies' of the 'corrupt and inefficient' DMK government. 'The Stalin government has not fulfilled a majority of the promises it made ahead of the [2021] election. The people of Tamil Nadu are angry because of this,' he said in an open letter to his party members. The BJP is slated to begin its 2026 election campaign with a zonal conference in Tirunelveli on August 17. The party has decided to organise six more such conferences ahead of the election. Apart from strengthening the grass-roots party structure, the conferences will showcase the achievements of 11 years of BJP rule at the Centre. In effect, political parties in the State have begun preparing for the 2026 election way ahead of time. Before the 2021 election, preparations were muted until about six months before the election. This time, election season has begun about 10 months ahead.

Reuters account on Twitter restored in India, email from the company says ‘At this time, we are no longer…'
Elon Musk-owned X has restored access to Reuters' official account in India, a day after it had been blocked due to a legal request. The main @Reuters account, followed by over 25 million users globally, was withheld in India on Saturday night. Indian users who tried to access it saw a message saying the account had been withheld 'in response to a legal demand.' However, a spokesperson for the Indian government's Press Information Bureau told Reuters that no government agency had requested the block. The official said they were working with X to resolve the issue. Another account, @ReutersWorld, which was also blocked in India, was restored later Sunday night. Announcing that the ban has now been lifted, Reuters quoted an email from X which said 'At this time, we are no longer withholding access in INDIA to your account'. Why Reuters account was banned in India Official sources told news agency PTI that a request to block Reuters' account was made during Operation Sindoor . The microblogging platform seems to have now acted on that request and blocking Reuters' account in the country. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Serbia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House Search Now Undo In an earlier email dated May 16, X had told Reuters: 'It is our policy to notify account holders if we receive a legal request from an authorized entity (such as law enforcement or a government agency) to remove content from their account.' ‘Elon has gone too far': Former DOGE adviser asks Tesla Board to confront Musk over political party plans
James Fishback , a former adviser to the Department of Government Efficiency ( DOGE ), has written a scathing open letter to Tesla's board of directors, calling on them to immediately meet with Elon Musk and seek clarity over his political ambitions . The move comes days after Musk announced the formation of a new national political party — the America Party — which Fishback argues is incompatible with Musk's duties as Tesla CEO. Fishback's concerns were outlined in a detailed letter addressed to Tesla board chair Robyn Denholm and publicly shared on social media. He also announced that his investment firm, Azoria Partners , has postponed the launch of its Azoria Tesla Convexity ETF in response to Musk's political foray. 'Elon has gone too far,' Fishback wrote. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Simple Morning Habit for a Flatter Belly After 50! This creates a conflict with his full-time responsibilities as CEO of Tesla. It diverts his focus and energy away from Tesla's employees and shareholders.' — j_fishback (@j_fishback) Live Events 'Not aligned with Tesla's mission' Fishback, whose firm had planned to list an exchange-traded fund (ETF) focused solely on Tesla shares and options next week, said the political move risks shareholder confidence . He referenced Musk's earlier decision in May to step back from DOGE — a federal role he held under Donald Trump's administration — and said investors had welcomed the renewed focus on Tesla. 'In May, when Elon stepped back from his work at DOGE and returned his attention to Tesla, we were encouraged. With Elon fully engaged, he gave shareholders renewed confidence in Tesla's future. Elon's announcement today undermines that confidence.' He added that, unlike Musk's other ventures — such as SpaceX or xAI — which align with Tesla's ambitions in AI and automation, a political party 'not only fails to complement Tesla's mission—it actively undermines it.' In the letter, Fishback urged the Tesla board to evaluate whether Musk's political activities are 'compatible with his full-time obligations to Tesla as CEO.' He concluded by saying, 'I remain hopeful that Elon will return his full attention to Tesla. If not, I trust the Board will take appropriate action.' US Treasury Secretary adds to concerns US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also weighed in on Musk's announcement, suggesting the billionaire entrepreneur should focus on his business ventures. When asked by CNN if Musk's political entry was a concern for the Trump administration, Bessent said: 'I believe that the boards of directors at his various companies wanted him to come back and run those companies, which he is better at than anyone.' 'So I imagine that those boards of directors did not like this announcement yesterday and will be encouraging him to focus on his business activities, not his political activities,' Bessent added. Musk's declaration about the America Party came shortly after he ran a poll on X, where a majority of his followers supported the idea. His message accompanying the poll read: 'Today the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.' The Tesla board has not yet issued a response to Fishback's letter.
