‘Hit below… Don't shoot video': Raj Thackeray to MNS workers amid Marathi row
The event in Worli was called to celebrate the Maharashtra government's rollback of an order regarding the "imposition" of the Hindi language.
Addressing the event, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray responded to the ongoing language row and criticism against his party workers. He told MNS workers "not to assault people for not speaking Marathi."

The MNS leader, however, said if someone shows useless drama, 'you must hit below their eardrums'.
"Be it Gujarati or anyone else here, must know Marathi, but there is no need to beat people for that if they don't speak Marathi. But if someone shows useless drama, you must hit below their eardrums," Raj Thackeray said.
He also advised against recording the video of the incident, saying, "Let the person beaten up tell that he has been beaten up."
"I tell you one more thing: if you beat someone, don't make a video of the incident. Let the person beaten up tell that he has been beaten up, you don't need to tell everyone that you have beaten someone," he added.
The remark comes after the Maharashtra government in April this year implemented a three-language policy making Hindi mandatory as a third language in primary schools. The move drew huge backlash from the Opposition and language advocacy groups, following which it was revoked.
Raj cites Balasaheb's English medium example
Raj Thackeray also emphasised that there was no link between Marathi pride and an English-medium education.
The MNS leader went on to cite the example of Dada Bhuse, who studied in Marathi schools and later became a minister in the Maharashtra cabinet.

"They say that our children have learnt in English medium schools. So what? Dada Bhuse studied in Marathi schools and became a minister. Devendra Fadnavis studied in an English-medium school and became the Maharashtra CM. So what?" he said.
He went on to add that his father Shrikant Thackeray and uncle Balasaheb Thackeray also studied in English medium schools.
"Can anyone raise a question about their love for Marathi? Tomorrow, I will learn Hebrew also. Will anyone raise a question about my pride in Marathi?" he asked.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said he and Raj have come together to stay united and to capture power in the Mumbai civic body and Maharashtra.

US President Donald Trump confirmed that he would start sending other countries the first letters on tariffs and trade deals on Monday, ahead of a deadline for the paused levies to take effect. UAE Golden Visa: Netizens weigh pros, say ‘taxpayers celebrating like they won lottery'
Indians can now get the United Arab Emirates government's Golden Visa for life time. It's based on nomination, not on investments, and costs ₹ 23 lakh. Sources told news agency PTI that under the 'new nomination-based visa policy,' Indians can now enjoy the UAE's Golden Visa for life by paying a one-time fee of AED 1,00,000 (INR around 23.30 lakh). They claimed that over 5,000 Indians will apply for this nomination-based visa in three months. Until now, one of the ways to get Dubai's Golden Visa from India was to invest in property whose value should be at least AED Two Million ( ₹ 4.66 crore), or invest a large amount in business in the country. The UAE's latest visa policy has created a buzz on the internet. One X user Suraj Balakrishnan posted said, 'The ₹ 23 lakh UAE Golden Visa seems like a migration ticket, but in reality, it's more of a status flex for Indian elites.' He claimed that 'for many HNIs [High Net Worth Individual], the Golden Visa isn't about leaving India; it's about a backup option, global mobility, and just something to flaunt at a party.' However, another social media user believed, 'When a nation values your potential more than your passport, migration becomes clarity not escape.' Meanwhile, one X user posted, 'If the UAE Golden Visa for ₹ 23 lakhs news is true, it is game over for urban India.' The Golden Visa nomination process is an agreement between the UAE and its (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) CEPA signatory/partner countries. This is a pilot project which has started with India and Bangladesh and will soon include China and other CEPA countries. RayadGroup and VFS have been chosen to vet the applicants and then forward them to the UAE authorities.

Attacks on Hindi-speaking people: BJP leader draws Pahalgam parallel to target Thackeray cousins
Amid violence against Hindi-speaking people, Maharashtra minister and BJP leader Ashish Shelar on Sunday (July 6, 2025) drew parallels between the Pahalgam terror attack and the beating of "Hindus" in Mumbai in a veiled attack on the reunion of the Thackeray cousins. The senior BJP leader's remarks come amid an outrage caused by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists thrashing a sweet shop owner in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region for not speaking Marathi. On Saturday, MNS workers damaged the glass door of Mumbai-based share market investor Sushil Kedia's office in Worli after he declared he would not speak Marathi and dared the party chief Raj Thackeray. The row over speaking Marathi is escalating into a major political flashpoint ahead of the civic polls. "In the Pahalgam terror attack, people were asked about their religion [by terrorists] before shooting them. Here, people are being attacked based on their language, which is disappointing. "The state is watching how these leaders are enjoying other Hindus being beaten up," Mr. Shelar told reporters when asked about attacks on Hindi-speaking people allegedly by MNS workers. With MNS resorting to street-fighting over Marathi, actor and singer Dinesh Lal Yadav, popularly known as Nirahua, has dared the Thackeray cousins to drive him out of Maharashtra for speaking in Bhojpuri. "I am giving an open challenge. I do not speak Marathi. I speak Bhojpuri, and I am staying in Maharashtra. Why are you driving poor people out? If you have the courage then drive me out. I am giving you a challenge, even in Mumbai," he told reporters. Uddhav and Raj Thackeray shared a stage after nearly 20 years for the cause of the Marathi language and vowed to oppose the 'imposition' of Hindi in Maharashtra after the state government rolled back the GRs on the introduction of Hindi as a third language in primary schools. Slamming the BJP, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said the coming together of the Thackerays has unnerved ruling Mahayuti leaders, including Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Targeting Fadnavis who had claimed that Uddhav Thackeray delivered a 'rudali' (professional mourner) like speech at the joint rally, Raut said, 'Fadnavis and [Deputy CM Eknath] Shinde should start a weeping programme now [with the two Thackeray brothers coming together]'. After the rally, Mr. Raut said, leaders from several south Indian states, particularly Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, have asserted that they can fight the Centre and 'overthrow the imposition of Hindi". As the row over true custodians of Marathi escalated, Shiv Sena MLA and Maharashtra minister Pratap Sarnaik on Sunday credited Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for giving justice to Marathi manoos and ensuring classical language status for the Marathi language by following up with the Centre. In a letter to Mr. Shinde, Mr. Sarnaik stated that people are wise to understand that the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the MNS have come together to win power in the Mumbai civic body and not in the interest of Marathi. He said the Sena (undivided) controlled the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for 25 years and during this period, the Marathi manoos was driven out of the hotel industry, real estate, and gold and silver jewellery shops. "People are wise enough to know that they (Sena UBT and MNS) have come to win power in the BMC. Their [the Sena UBT's] soul is stuck in the coffers of the BMC. UBT's politics has been very selfish, fake and treacherous. Which is why UBT's colleagues are abandoning the party," Mr. Sarnaik said. "The MNS and the Sena (UBT) keep saying that they have come together in the interest of Marathi. So, for whose interest did they separate years ago? There is no love for Marathi, its culture and language, and Marathi manoos," he added. Mr. Shelar, meanwhile, said the attacks on Hindi-speaking people allegedly by MNS workers were disappointing and asserted "Marathi is not a political issue for us." He said the Shiv Sena (UBT) and its allies would perform poorly in the upcoming civic elections. "Compared to the previous elections, they will win fewer seats. They are going to lose," he added.
