USA TODAY Sports places new-look Auburn at No. 25 in 'too-early' rankings
Outside of Tahaad Pettiford, Auburn basketball's roster will look completely different from last season's Final Four squad. That storyline is the driving force behind college basketball experts being skeptical when putting high expectations on the Tigers heading into the new season.
USA TODAY Sports recently dropped its updated too-early top-25 rankings following the end of the transfer portal window and the NBA draft. The team of Eddie Timanus, Paul Myerberg, Jordan Mendoza, and Erick Smith believes that Auburn will, once again, be a challenger for the Final Four. However, the Tigers will need to prove that they can contend with a new roster. Due to the uncertainty, USA TODAY has placed Auburn at No. 25 in its latest "too-early top-25."
The guys at USA TODAY feel that Auburn's rebuilding efforts through the transfer portal and junior college recruiting will keep them in the national eye this season.
Experienced stars led Auburn last season, but the entire starting unit is gone following the tough loss of Chad Baker-Mazara to Southern California. Bruce Pearl knew he had to replenish the roster, and he did so with significant recruiting and transfer classes. Keyshawn Hall (Central Florida) and Kevin Overton (Texas Tech) arrive after strong seasons, and there's intrigue with the Tigers bringing in the top junior college transfer, Abdul Bashir. A new crop of players will join Tahaad Pettiford, the one key returnee that had a big role in the Final Four squad.
Pettiford will slide into the point guard role following the departure of Denver Jones to graduation. The front court will have the most questions this season as starters Johni Broome and Dylan Cardwell, as well as key bench piece Chaney Johnson, are out of eligibility. Look for transfer Keyshawn Hall, Keshawn Murphy, and a junior college product Emeka Opurum to take over the Tigers' four and five spots as they look to return to the Final Four in 2026.

Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will host the 2028 Final Four
Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will host the 2028 Final Four. A decade ago, it would have been inconceivable. A decade ago, the NFL shut down Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo's fantasy football convention in Las Vegas, even though the convention was being held at a property that had no gambling on it. A decade ago, sports betting was legal in gambling but nowhere else. And while the proliferation and normalization of gambling throughout the country since 2018 has stripped Las Vegas of that which made it unique, it has opened new doors for Sin City. An NFL team resides there. A Super Bowl has happened there. An NHL team plays there. An MLB team is coming. (I think.) And now the Final Four will happen there. Via Mick Akers of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority voted on Monday to devote $26 million to the planning and execution of the event. LVCVA President and CEO Steve Hill believes the economic impact will outweigh the expenses by $250 million or more. 'When that event takes place in Las Vegas, everybody knows it,' Hill told Akers. 'They telecast the skyline of our city over and over again and they talk about being here.' With most of the country now able to carry a casino around in their pockets, it's more important than ever to have more of what happens in Vegas happen in Vegas.

Texas A&M volleyball ranked No. 3 in SEC coaches' poll, earns multiple preseason honors
Following a 21-win season in 2024, the Texas A&M volleyball program earned multiple preseason Southeastern Conference honors heading into a new campaign under head coach Jamie Morrison. The Aggies enter this season ranked third in the Southeastern Conference coaches' poll, with two members of this year's roster also named to the 2025 Preseason All-SEC Team. Logan Lednicky and Ifenna Cos-Okpalla added another honor to their list of accomplishments, as both were announced to the league's list on Tuesday afternoon. This marks Lednicky's third consecutive preseason award and Cos-Okpalla's second consecutive season securing the honors, given to just 15 athletes across the SEC before the new season begins. Lednicky recorded the second-highest kills per set total (4.47) and third-highest kill total (492) in a single season in the program's history last season in an impressive junior year showing. At the same time, Cos-Okpalla led the team with 161 blocks and averaged 1.46 blocks per set, which ranked second and third. The SEC's preseason voting placed the Aggies in third with 195 points and one first-place vote among the 16 teams in the conference. Following Texas A&M's record-breaking 2024 campaign, which featured the program's highest win total since 2019, 11 players return to Morrison's squad this season. On the recruiting trail, the Aggies also brought in the No. 7 recruiting class in the country. Here are the finalized votes from the league's preseason coaches' poll: Following a NCAA Tournament run that ended with the Aggies reaching the team's first Sweet 16 since 2019, Morrison will look to lead his program back to the promised land this season. With a roster loaded with talent and experience, the program in College Station could be at the apex of the SEC in 2025. Oregon Ducks land commitment from 4-star WR Jalen Lott
Since Dan Lanning came to Eugene and took over the Oregon Ducks, the recruiting at the wide receiver position has risen to another level. A lot of that was thanks to former WR coach Junior Adams and his prowess in the sport, but it has continued this past year under new WR coach Ross Douglas, who picked up his second major victory on the trail this week. On Tuesday, 4-star WR Jalen Lott announced his commitment to Oregon. Lott is rated as the No. 49 player and No. 5 ATH in the 2026 class, and he chose Lanning and his squad over the Texas Longhorns and USC Trojans. Lott stands at 6-foot, 175 pounds, and is considered one of the top pass-catchers in the class, and has been among Oregon's top prospects this cycle. This was a heated recruiting battle between the Ducks, Longhorns, and Trojans, and with Jalen being the son of James Lott, a Texas legacy, it was felt that he would likely stay close to home and go with the Longhorns. Ultimately, though, he sided with the Ducks, and now becomes the second WR in the class, joining 4-star WR Messiah Hampton, who committed in June. Before the addition of Lott, Oregon had the No. 14 class in the 2026 cycle, but they have now moved up to No. 9 in the nation.
