Two arrested after B3.4m robbery at mall car park
The two men, identified only as said Sherpat, 25, and Nana, 31, were arrested at a hotel in Pathum Thani at 1am on Tuesday, police said.
They were suspected of arranging to exchange cryptocurrency with the three victims.
Police found 1.9 million baht in cash in the suspects' room and believed the remaining cash was with the five other suspects at large.
Police found the gang had sold cryptocurrency to the victims twice before, for 200,000 and 300,000 baht respectively. The previous exchanges had taken place without a problem, so the victims decided to raise the third purchase to 3.4 million baht on Monday evening.
Both sides met at a coffee shop in the Central Ladprao shopping mall in Chatuchak district of Bangkok. Then the victims were brought to a car in the mall parking building. They were robbed by other men who threatened them in the car with knives. A victim told police some robbers claimed to also have guns. The robbery was at 7.44pm on Monday.
The gang then fled in a silver Honda Civic.
Police said the suspects in the case had long criminal records including theft, robbery, drug abuse and extortion.
The five suspects at large are men aged 26-43 years old. The oldest one is believed to be the gang leader, identified as Worawat aka Suea Poon.
Police said the gang reached victims through Facebook.

Tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border are starting to ease and Thailand expects Cambodia to withdraw forces from the border and return to bilateral talks, say Thai ministers. The border was not closed but crossings by people and vehicles have been limited to those who have regular duties related to work, school or trade, he said. At the Chong Chom crossing in Kap Choeng district of Surin, he noted, the Thai gate was open but the adjacent Cambodian border gate was closed. 'The existing pressures are not meant for economic effect but are intended to put pressure on criminal gangs. … Now scams have dropped noticeably,' he said, referring to the heavy concentration of criminal activity in Cambodian border towns such as Poipet. Gen Nattaphon also said that Cambodian members of the Joint Boundary Committee (JBC) had resumed talks with their Thai counterparts and that was a positive sign. Student hit by bus while using zebra crossing
A university student using a pedestrian crossing was run down by a bus on Sukhothai Road in Bangkok and the incident was recorded by surveillance camera footage and shared online. Despite being hurled many metres by the impact, the young woman survived and is recovering in hospital. The accident occurred about 5:24pm on June 26 near Vachiraphayaban intersection. The student is seen walking on the pedestrian crossing and emerging from between the stopped cars. A bus travelling rapidly in the outside lane hits her, sending her flying. The video was posted on Facebook on Wednesday and quickly drew widespread attention. Commenters expressed concern for the student's well-being and accused the bus driver of reckless behaviour. Some accused the driver of travelling against the traffic flow in that lane. Later, a Facebook user claiming to be the injured student posted an update, saying she was safe and currently receiving treatment in hospital.
