No country should 'weaponise' critical resources: PM Modi at Brics Summit
Speaking on the theme 'Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic-Financial Affairs, and Artificial Intelligence', PM Modi underlined the need for fair, transparent, and resilient global supply chains and cautioned against the weaponisation of essential materials and technologies. 'It must also be ensured that no country uses these resources solely for its own interests or as a weapon,' PM Modi said.
The Prime Minister's remark comes amid growing global concerns over China's strategic dominance in critical minerals and rare earth elements.
PM Modi outlined his four-point agenda that he put forward at the Summit to boost Brics cooperation, particularly for the Global South. He first called for improved governance systems within member countries. 'First, [I] emphasised on improving our own systems so that our credibility is boosted when we call for reformed multilateralism,' he said.

PM Modi further said that with Brics economic cooperation growing steadily, institutions like the Brics New Development Bank must adopt demand-driven decision-making and maintain financial sustainability and strong credit ratings.
The Prime Minister said Brics can serve as a platform to meet the aspirations of the Global South. He highlighted the Brics Agricultural Research Platform set up in India, which can help share best practices in agri-biotech, precision farming, and climate adaptation. "Also proposed creating a Brics Science and Research Repository that can also benefit the countries of the Global South," he said.
The PM also talked about the strategic importance of securing critical minerals and technologies. He underscored the need to build resilient supply chains and prevent monopolisation.
PM Modi called for global cooperation in developing responsible AI. 'We in India believe in AI as a tool to enhance human values and capabilities,' he said. Guided by the principle of "AI for All", India is applying AI across several sectors. 'In AI governance, addressing concerns and encouraging innovation should both receive equal priority,' he said.
PM Modi reaffirmed India's commitment to collaborative progress. 'The Global South has many expectations from us. To fulfill them, we must follow the principle of 'Lead by Example'. India is fully committed to working shoulder to shoulder with all partners to achieve our shared goals,' he said.

Rijiju's remark on NE development is deeply problematic, exposes BJP's mindset: Congress leader
Manipur (Imphal) [India], July 13 (ANI): Congress leader Rajesh Kumar Sethi, National Coordinator of the AICC Minority Department and in charge of Manipur, on Sunday, criticised Union Minister Kiren Rijiju's remarks urging the people of the Northeastern region to be 'grateful' to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for basic development and job appointments. In his statement, Sethi termed the statement 'deeply problematic' and reflective of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) 'patronising mindset' toward the Northeast. Sethi emphasised that providing roads, jobs, connectivity, drinking water, and security is not a favour but a Constitutional duty of the Prime Minister. 'Union Minister Kiren Rijiju's statement asking the people of the Northeastern region to be 'grateful' to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for basic development and job appointments is deeply problematic and exposes the BJP's patronising mindset toward the region. To set the record straight, the Prime Minister of India is not doing a favour to the Northeast; he is simply performing his Constitutional duty. Roads, jobs, connectivity, drinking water, and security are not gifts from the ruling party; they are entitlements of every citizen in a democracy,' he said. Highlighting the unresolved Naga Peace Accord, Sethi recalled Prime Minister Modi's 2015 announcement promising a resolution within months and his 'calculated silence.' 'If the Minister would care to recollect, in 2015, Prime Minister Modi pompously declared that a final Naga Peace Accord would be concluded within just a few months, at a time when only 3 or 4 groups were involved in talks. Today, nearly a decade later, the situation has only worsened. Instead of peace, we now have 28 groups in the fray, a dramatic escalation of complexity, confusion, and division. Is this the 'development' that the people of Nagaland or the region are expected to be grateful for? Or do we deserve a candid explanation of how a hastily promised solution has devolved into a prolonged and deepening crisis?' he questioned. 'At the same time, Manipur continues to bleed, and the Prime Minister has remained a silent spectator. Despite over 200 deaths, thousands displaced, and countless homes and churches burnt, PM Modi has not set foot in Manipur since the outbreak of violence. Can a region truly feel supported when its cries are met with calculated silence? Leadership is not about social media statements; it is about standing with your people in their darkest hours. Where was the PM when Manipur needed him the most?' he added in the statement. Drawing attention to Dimapur, a key economic hub in Nagaland, Sethi highlighted its current state of distress due to severe flooding and a 'complete collapse of basic infrastructure.' 'Meanwhile, in Dimapur, widely regarded as one of the key economic engines not just of Nagaland but the (Northeastern) region at large, the situation on the ground is deeply troubling. The city is at present reeling under the devastating effects of severe flooding and a complete collapse of basic infrastructure. Where is the gratitude supposed to come from when even basic governance is missing? The Congress Party has always believed in serving people, not seeking applause. We do not expect citizens to thank us for doing our job.' He called for rejecting the 'culture of manufactured gratitude' and demanded accountable, inclusive, and effective governance for the Northeast. 'We want people to question more, demand better, and receive what they deserve, not crumbs handed out with a photo opportunity. Let us reject this culture of manufactured gratitude. Let us demand accountable, inclusive, and effective governance instead,' he said. On Friday, Kiren Rijiju made remarks in Dimapur, Nagaland, during the Rozgar Mela event, where PM Modi distributed 51,000 appointment letters via video conferencing at 47 locations nationwide on Saturday. "Ye sootra ko hum mootra samajhte hai": Tejashwi Yadav rubbishes ECI claims on presence of foreign nationals in Bihar voter list review
Patna (Bihar) [India], July 13 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday rubbished claims that the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists for Bihar elections revealed names of people from Bangladesh, Nepal, and Myanmar. He questioned the credibility of sources making such claims, likening them to rumors about Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore being captured. 'Who are these sources? These are the same sources that said that Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore have been captured. 'Ye sootra ko hum mootra samajhte hai' (We consider these sources to be nonsense),' Yadav said. Yadav emphasised that SIR was last conducted in 2003 under the UPA government, and since then, multiple elections have taken place, including in 2014, 2019, and 2024, where the opposition lost by a margin of three to four lakhs. He questioned whether this implies that foreigners voted for Prime Minister Modi. 'SIR was conducted for the last time in 2003 under the UPA government. Since then, we have seen many elections, including the ones in 2014, 2019, and 2024. In those elections, we lost by three to four lakhs. Does that mean all these foreigners voted for PM Modi?' he added. Yadav alleged that the NDA is responsible for any dubious elements' names getting added to the voter lists, implying that their electoral victories might be tainted by fraud. He accused the Election Commission of working as a cell of a political party, calling the SIR process a 'complete eyewash'. 'This means that the NDA are at fault for any dubious elements' names getting added to the voter lists... That means all the elections they have won have been a fraud... SIR is a complete eyewash. The EC is working as a cell of a political party...,' said the RJD leader. Slamming both the Centre and Nitish Kumar, the RJD leader said that if any 'dubious names' were added in the voter lists, the responsibility lies with the government who has stayed in power since 2005. 'Since 2005, whose government has been in Bihar? NDA's government, BJP, Nitish Kumar's government is there. For 11 years who has been the Union Home Minister, who is the PM for the last 11 years? Modi and Amit Shah. This means that the NDA are at fault for any dubious elements' names getting added to the voter lists. That means all the elections they have won have been a fraud,' he said. Earlier, ECI sources said that a large number of individuals from Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar have been found by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) with Aadhaar cards, domicile certificates and ration cards during house-to-house visits carried out as part of the SIR. ECI sources say that after a proper enquiry to be conducted from 1 Aug till 30 Aug, if found true, such names shall not be included in the final list to be published on 30 Sep 2025. The State will have assembly polls later in the year. Notably, the BLOs have already digitised and uploaded 4.66 crore Enumeration Forms in ECINet by 6 PM today. ECINet is the newly developed integrated software that has subsumed all the different 40 ECI Apps that had existed earlier. (ANI)
