Ipoh to have 12 new Madani recreational parks by end July, says Nga

IPOH: The development of 12 Madani Recreational Parks here, costing RM5.4mil is expected to be fully completed by the end of July, as part of the government's commitment to providing conducive recreational spaces for the public, says Nga Kor Ming.
The Housing and Local Government Minister stated that the parks were implemented by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) following the allocation received from the ministry.
He said each park was developed at a cost of RM450,000, with the Canning Madani Recreational Park among those completed in the city.
"Under the ministry, we have a vision of 1,000 parks, comprising 1,000 community parks and open spaces in residential areas, to allow local communities to enjoy greener, more beautiful and cleaner public parks in line with the Madani economic framework.
"In line with the Madani government's aspirations, we aim to build a nation that is sustainable, competitive, innovative and prosperous. The people's well-being is our priority," he said.
Nga said this at a press conference after officiating the Canning Madani Recreational Park and launching the Ipoh City Council (MBI)-Kuala Lumpur Kepong Bhd (KLK) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme here on Sunday (July 27).
Earlier, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between KLK and MBI to collaborate in maintaining seven such parks around Ipoh for two years.
Nga said KLK's teams would visit the parks every two weeks to carry out fertilising, pesticide application, grass cutting and other maintenance work.
"The seven parks that will be maintained by KLK are Woodland Park 1 Tambun, Woodland Park 2 Tambun, Canning, Bandar Baru Putra, Westpool Park, Pengkalan Barat and First Garden. This is an initial step.
"This collaboration is a good initiative, and I hope more major companies will come forward to contribute their energy and service in building a clean, green, prosperous, peaceful and harmonious Ipoh," he said. - Bernama

394 MyKiosk units occupied in Negeri Sembilan, says state exco

SEREMBAN: A total of 394 out of 426 MyKiosk units in Negeri Sembilan have been occupied, with prices ranging from RM15,000 to RM25,000 based on specifications and facilities. State Local Government Development, Housing and Transport Committee chairman J. Arul Kumar shared the update in the State Legislative Assembly. Seremban recorded the highest occupancy with 130 units, followed by Kuala Pilah (68), Tampin (58), Jempol (50), Rembau (47), Jelebu (38), and Port Dickson (35). Arul Kumar noted that the remaining units remain vacant due to unsuitable locations. 'The remaining MyKiosk units have not been taken up due to unsuitable locations. That is why I have asked the relevant local authorities to relocate them to more appropriate areas so that traders can use them,' he said. He added that some traders who secured units have yet to start operations. Authorities will reclaim these units and reallocate them to interested entrepreneurs. The statement came in response to Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker's (PN-Labu) query on MyKiosk availability and pricing. When asked by Datuk Saiful Yazan Sulaiman (BN-Johol) about redesigning units to reflect local identity, Arul Kumar said the current design follows national standards but future modifications may be considered. - Bernama

Some workers take on two jobs, delay marriage to cope with living costs

KUALA LUMPUR: The minimum wage rate of RM1,700 has brought some relief to young workers, but some say it remains inadequate to cope with the rising cost of living, especially for those residing in urban areas. A report by Utusan Malaysia found that employees are being forced to make adjustments to their lifestyles to make ends meet. These include holding down two jobs, bringing packed meals to work, cooking at home, and even postponing major life plans such as marriage. Mohammad Noriman Ahmad Zarkhoni, 22, is among those feeling the pinch. He works as both a food delivery rider and a factory operator, as his RM1,500 income from delivery work alone is not enough to cover his monthly expenses. Although the dual workload is exhausting, he said he has little choice. "Time management is crucial to avoid feeling overwhelmed. So far, I'm managing. "However, I do hope there will be an improvement in the minimum wage, especially since the cost of living in the capital is much higher than in rural areas," he said. Similarly, 25-year-old Muhd Rafiq Ridzuan Zainatul Rahman said his income as a food delivery rider is not enough to save for a wedding, forcing him to delay his marriage plans. "The intention to marry is there, but since my savings are still insufficient, I've chosen to continue saving to cover the cost of the wedding ceremony in the future. "I think postponing it is the best decision for now, considering the rising cost of living. I'll need to work longer in order to save enough," he said. Thaqif Adib Marozi, 23, said he also brings his own meals to work but only has time to cook on weekends due to a packed weekday schedule. "On weekdays, I usually eat just once a day and opt for the cheapest meals available. I hope the prices of raw ingredients won't continue to rise," he said. On July 23, the Human Resources Ministry announced that the full implementation of the RM1,700 minimum monthly wage will take effect on Aug 1. It will apply to all employers, regardless of the number of employees. Failure to comply with the Minimum Wage Order under the National Wages Consultative Council Act 2011 is an offence punishable by a fine of up to RM10,000 per employee.
