You Can Now Turn Text Prompts Into Lego Designs With LegoGPT AI
Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) have unveiled a groundbreaking newAImodel called LegoGPT, designed to bridge the gap between natural language and physical creation. This innovative system can transform text prompts into fully buildable LEGO models, specifically focusing on vehicles.
Imagine simply typing 'a red sports car with big wheels' or 'a blue spaceship with pointy wings,' and having the AI instantly generate instructions for assembling it with LEGO bricks. That's the promise of LegoGPT. The system operates by understanding natural language and processing and interpret the descriptive elements of a text prompt. It then translates the words into LEGO geometry, turning concepts into a 3D LEGO model, taking into account the unique constraints and connectivity of LEGO bricks. It provides step-by-step instructions that a human builder can follow to construct the physical model. According todezeen, the team, which is led by Ava Pun, a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and one of the study's coauthors, hope to expand the AI model beyond LEGOs to give it real-world applications to help 'architects design structurally sound buildings or designers create custom furniture.' Pun shared with the publication, 'We wanted to bring user imagination into the physical world. Imagine if you could type in a prompt or show us a picture of a chair, and boom – we could actually make that product and ship it to you in a week or two.'
This development is a significant leap in AI's ability to translate abstract ideas into tangible forms. It showcases advancements in generative AI, computational design, and robotics, demonstrating how AI can aid in creative design and engineering processes. While currently focused on vehicles, the potential applications for LEGO-GPT are vast, from educational tools to rapid prototyping and even assisting LEGO designers themselves. It's a playful yet powerful example of AI moving beyond virtual spaces into the realm of physical construction.

Finally, easy-to-use controls built into the mic, along with a simple USB connection, make getting the sound you want a breeze. One of the best investments you can make in content creation is a decent microphone. However, many of the best USB microphones can be expensive, often exceeding what you need to get started. However, the Blue Yeti USB is one of the best starting microphones you can get. In our review, we praised how easy to use the Blue Yeti is, mainly since it can be used without requiring any additional software. To start using the mic, all you need is a USB connection on your PC or Mac. Even with its ease of use, the Blue Yeti microphone offers stellar sound quality that benefits from being able to switch between Cardioid, Bidirectional, Omnidirectional, and Stereo microphone patterns. The ability to quickly switch between patterns, each of which changes the microphone's sensitivity to sound waves from specific angles, makes this ideal for those with multiple projects. You'll be able to capture an interview or record your latest stream with a simple turn of the dial. We're coming to the end of Amazon's deal period, so make sure you check out the Prime Day Deals live blog to get great discounts on Kindle, TVs, Apple Watch, Lego and more. ChatGPT Is Changing the Words We Use in Conversation
After its release in late 2022, ChatGPT reached 100 million users in just two months, making it the fastest-growing consumer application in history. Since then the artificial intelligence (AI) tool has significantly affected how we learn, write, work and create. But new research shows that it's also influencing us in ways we may not be aware of—such as changing how we speak. Hiromu Yakura, a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin, first noticed differences in his own vocabulary about a year after ChatGPT came out. 'I realized I was using 'delve' more,' he says. 'I wanted to see if this was happening not only to me but to other people.' Researchers had previously found that use of large language models (LLMs), such as those that power ChatGPT, was changing vocabulary choices in written communication, and Yakura and his colleagues wanted to know whether spoken communication was being affected, too. The researchers first used ChatGPT to edit millions of pages of e-mails, essays, and academic and news articles using typical prompts such as to 'polish' the text or 'improve its clarity.' Next, they extracted words that ChatGPT repeatedly added while editing, such as 'delve,' 'realm' and 'meticulous,' dubbing these 'GPT words.' The team then analyzed more than 360,000 YouTube videos and 771,000 podcast episodes from before and after ChatGPT's release to track the use of GPT words over time. They compared the GPT words with 'synthetic controls,' which were formed by mathematically weighting synonyms that weren't frequently used by the chatbot—such synonyms for 'delve,' for example, could include 'examine' and 'explore.' By purchasing a subscription you are helping to ensure the future of impactful stories about the discoveries and ideas shaping our world today. The team's results, posted on the preprint server last week, show a surge in GPT words in the 18 months after ChatGPT's release. The words didn't just appear in formal, scripted videos or podcast episodes; they were peppered into spontaneous conversation, too. 'The patterns that are stored in AI technology seem to be transmitting back to the human mind,' says study co-author Levin Brinkmann, also at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. In other words, a sort of cultural feedback loop is forming between humans and AI: we train AI on written text, it parrots a statistically remixed version of that text back to us, and we pick up on its patterns and unconsciously start to mimic them. 'AI is not a special technology in terms of influencing our behavior,' Yakura says. 'But the speed and scale at which AI is being introduced is different.' It may seem harmless—if a bit comical—for people to start talking like ChatGPT. But the trend carries deeper risks. 'It's natural for humans to imitate one another, but we don't imitate everyone around us equally,' Brinkmann says. 'We're more likely to copy what someone else is doing if we perceive them as being knowledgeable or important.' As more people look to AI as a cultural authority, they may rely on and imitate it over other sources, narrowing diversity in language. This makes it critical to track and study LLMs' influence on culture, according to James Evans, a professor of sociology and data science at the University of Chicago, who was not involved in the study. 'In this moment in the evolution of LLMs, looking at word distribution is the right methodology' to understand how the technology is affecting the way we communicate, he says. 'As the models mature, these distributions are going to be harder to discriminate.' Scientists may need to look at broader linguistic trends beyond word choice, such as sentence structure and how ideas are presented. Given that ChatGPT has changed how people talk just two and a half years into its adoption, the question becomes not whether AI is going to reshape our culture, but how profoundly it will do so. 'Word frequency can shape our discourse or arguments about situations,' Yakura says. 'That carries the possibility of changing our culture.'

If you have never played Guess Who before, what are you doing?! It's simple: you and another player have a board each, featuring many character tiles that can be flipped down, and are assigned a random character from a pile of cards. You must then ask "yes" or "no" questions to decipher the character your opponent has. It's a lot of fun and can get very competitive too. One time in boarding school, one of my dormmates got so mad that she lost, that she threw the board across the room. We all burst out laughing. Who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned whodunnit? Clue is a classic murder mystery board game where you and up to six other players act as detectives to solve a murder. Determine who committed the crime, the weapon they used, and which room the crime took place in. Other players will try to ruin your strategy by using cards in their hands, and the first person to make an accurate accusation wins. This is the perfect game for fans of movies like Knives Out! The Game of Life is, as the name suggests, a game of life. You and three other players work your way to the top, from college to retirement, by spinning a wheel and moving along a path. You must decide your career, your family life, and collect money. At the end of the game, you either go broke or become a millionaire. Your goal is to become the latter. Alongside Monopoly, this is the game that drew me into the vast world of board games. My earliest memories of playing board games with my family take me back to all of us huddled around a table playing Monopoly. It's an all-time classic, where up to six players buy, sell and scheme their way to becoming the richest person alive. You can build houses and hotels and trade these if a player offers you a better deal. This edition includes eight classic tokens including a top hat, rubber ducky, battleship and more. One game of Monopoly can last hours and hours, so be sure to free up your evening! Ever since my partner gifted me the Exploding Kittens card game, I haven't stopped thinking about it, and we play it when we can. This family-friendly card game combines strategy and humor where you must protect your kittens, avoid explosions and outsmart your opponents. This Party Pack Edition comes with 120 cards featuring original, hilarious illustrations by The Oatmeal. ^ Back to top This satin pillowcase is an affordable upgrade for a better night's sleep.
