Saiyaara star Aneet Padda's childhood photo goes viral: From fairytale wings to making her own magic

The breakout star of Saiyaara, Aneet, is basking in the success of her big-screen debut alongside Ahaan Panday in Mohit Suri 's romantic drama. While her performance has been widely praised, it's not just the critics and audiences cheering her on. Aneet's close friends are also celebrating the moment in the most heartwarming way. Taking to Instagram, Aneet reshared a story posted by her friend Pranati Peshawaria, who dug out an adorable childhood photo of the actress dressed as a fairy. Wearing a white outfit, complete with pink wings, a tiara, and a wand in hand, little Aneet stood in front of a mic — unknowingly foreshadowing her future. 'This little fairytale girl just grew up and made her own magic,' Pranati wrote. Aneet responded with love, writing, 'My beautiful Pranati, I love you.' Actors like Sharvari, Arjun Kapoor, and even Alia Bhatt have given a nod to the film and its fresh-faced cast, applauding their performances and on-screen chemistry. Saiyaara's performance Mohit Suri's latest romantic drama, Saiyaara, has captured the hearts of audiences and industry veterans alike, and at the centre of this emotional tale stands debutante Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, who is earning widespread admiration for her role as Vaani, a gifted lyricist. Released across 8,000 screens nationwide, Saiyaara marks a high-profile entry into Bollywood for both Aneet Padda and co-star Ahaan Panday. Positive reviews about Saiyaara The film tells the story of Krish (played by Ahaan Panday), an aspiring singer struggling to make his mark, and Vaani (played by Aneet), a lyricist with a poetic soul and a painful past. Together, their characters build not just a musical partnership but a deeply moving love story that has been lauded for its sincerity and old-school charm. Aneet's portrayal of Vaani has resonated with viewers, many of whom are praising her emotional range, expressive eyes, and natural screen presence. Her performance strikes a balance between subtlety and intensity, a rare feat for a first-time actor. Saiyaara box office record What has further amplified the buzz around Aneet's breakout performance is the strong box office showing of Saiyaara. With a stunning opening of ₹83 crore in India in the opening weekend, the film has set records as the biggest opening day ever for a debutant-led film and the best opening for director Mohit Suri. It has also become the highest opening day for a romantic film in recent years—an achievement made even more impressive considering the absence of any big star names or festival weekend advantages. Industry insiders have taken note of Aneet and Ahaan's debut. Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu took to social media to call Saiyaara a beautifully made film, applauding its 'honest storytelling' and standout performances. Similarly, Salman Khan also expressed his appreciation for both Ahaan and Aneet, sharing his support for the young actors and congratulating them on such a promising start. Notably, Salman mentioned that he's known their families for years and feels proud to see the duo receive such warm encouragement. Critics and audiences have noted that, despite being newcomers, both leads delivered surprisingly mature performances. Many viewers have commented that she didn't seem like a debutant at all. Her comfort in front of the camera, nuanced expressions, and command over emotional scenes suggest a seasoned performer, not someone stepping onto the big screen for the first time. The music of Saiyaara, especially the title track, is another element that complements Aneet's role beautifully. As Vaani, the lyricist, Aneet is often seen immersed in writing and performing poetic verses—a task that she brings to life with authenticity and grace. The soundtrack has been a massive hit, with the title song already being streamed and shared widely on social media, becoming the emotional heartbeat of the film. About Aneet Padda Born in Amritsar, Punjab, Aneet Padda's passion for acting led her to Mumbai, where she began her journey with advertisement commercials. According to Yash Raj Films, her initial years in Mumbai's ad circuit were her first brush with showbiz. Academically, Aneet studied at Spring Dale Senior School and later pursued a degree in humanities from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University. Aneet made her Bollywood debut with a minor role in Salaam Venky (2022), starring Kajol. She followed it up with a notable performance as Roohi in Amazon Prime Video's Big Girls Don't Cry (2024), acting alongside seasoned performers like Pooja Bhatt and Raima Sen. Her role resonated with Gen Z audiences, earning her critical praise. Her biggest breakthrough came with Mohit Suri's Saiyaara, where she stars opposite Ahaan Panday. Her portrayal of Vaani, a lyricist, has struck a chord with audiences, and overnight, she's been dubbed the 'National Crush' by fans across social media.

Parliament Session: Congress gives Adjournment Motion notice in Lok Sabha, seeks Suspension of Business in Rajya Sabha

Congress whip in the Lok Sabha Manickam Tagore on Monday gave an Adjournment Motion notice in the Lok Sabha, while Congress Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala has given a Suspension of Business notice under rule 267 to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor in the Upper House of Parliament. Submitting the notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Congress MP Manickam Tagore wrote, "I give notice of my intention to move an adjournment motion to discuss a matter of urgent and serious national importance." "Matter: Glaring security lapses that led to the Pahalgam terror attack, the questionable foreign policy handling in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, the recent claim by the US President that five Indian fighter jets were shot down, and the conspicuous silence of the Hon'ble Prime Minister even after 24 public statements by the US President taking credit for India's ceasefire," the notice read. Listing the Grounds for adjournment, Tagore added, "1. The horrific terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians has shaken the conscience of the nation. The attack exposes serious intelligence and security failures, despite repeated warnings about cross-border infiltration and terror threats in Jammu & Kashmir." Live Events "2. In response, our brave men and women in uniform executed Operation Sindoor with unmatched courage, discipline, and patriotism. The entire House salutes their sacrifice and commitment," the notice added. He alleged that the US President Donald Trump claimed that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was a result of trade pressure. "3. However, the Government's handling of the post-operation diplomatic and strategic narrative has been nothing short of a foreign policy disaster. The US President has gone on record 24 times claiming that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan was negotiated by him, often under the guise of trade pressure. These repeated statements have gone uncontested by India's leadership," Tagore wrote. He added, "4. In his most recent remark, the US President claimed that five Indian fighter jets were shot down--a revelation that, if true, has not been placed before Parliament or the public. If false, it requires urgent rebuttal. Either way, this silence erodes trust in the Government's transparency on national security matters." The Congress MP also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of remaining silent amid President Trump's claims. "5. The Hon'ble Prime Minister's complete silence on these repeated and increasingly provocative foreign assertions has created confusion, diminished India's diplomatic standing, and undermined confidence in the Government's strategic clarity," the notice read. "6. To compound this, the Chief of Defence Staff made disclosures about Operation Sindoor on foreign soil, bypassing Parliament, raising further concerns over procedural accountability in national defence matters," he added. He requested the Speaker to suspend other business of the House and take up the matter for discussion in the Lok Sabha. "In view of the seriousness of the issues involved--national security lapses, erosion of sovereign decision-making, and weakening of India's international image--I request that all other business of the House be suspended to take up this matter of urgent national importance," Tagore wrote. Meanwhile, writing to the Secretary General, Rajya Sabha, ongress Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala gave a notice requesting Suspension of Business in the House. Surjewala wrote, "Under Rule 267 (Notice of Motion for Suspension of Rules) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in Council of States (Rajya Sabha), I hereby give notice of my intention to move the following motion:- I hereby give notice under Rule 267 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States (Rajya Subha) of my intention to move the following motion for the suspension of business listed for 21 July 2025: "That this House suspend Zero Hour and the relevant rules pertaining to Question Hour and other businesses of the day to discuss the concems arising out of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam and India's response thenugh Oporation Sindoor"." The Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to begin today on a stormy note with Opposition INDIA bloc gearing to corner Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Centre on several key issues, including Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and Air India (AI) 171 crash. The session will continue on August 21, with a break from August 12 to August 18. There will be a total of 21 sittings across 32 days.

Statehood is our right, says JK CM Omar Abdullah; rules out 'Hybrid System'

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday made a forceful plea for restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir without further delay, and indicated that all avenues, including legal options, were being explored by the ruling National Conference in this regard. Nearly ten months after the National Conference swept to power in the Union territory, Abdullah asserted that statehood was a fundamental right of the people. Shipping Container Homes | Search Ads Search Now Undo Abdullah dismissed talk of a "hybrid system" of government under which law and order would continue to be with the Centre even after statehood is restored and said such talk was emanating from those who had cast doubts about the holding of last year's Assembly elections in which over 64 per cent of voters participated. "Well, obviously, it's not an ideal situation. In spite of repeated promises, commitments in Parliament, commitments to the Supreme Court, the matter has still not sort of been resolved. And we're not asking for something that is not our due. Statehood is the right, it was promised to the people. Live Events "So, we're not asking for it. It's not something that is out of the ordinary or was not part of the public discourse. But, for reasons best known to the powers that be in the Union government, it hasn't happened so far. But, we're pushing," Abdullah told PTI in an interview. Abdullah, who maintains a "cordial" relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, refrained from disclosing specifics of their private discussions on the matter, affirming only that the issue of statehood has been raised "multiple times at multiple levels". "Conversations that have been individually had between myself, the Prime Minister, Home Minister, etc. are not conversations that are meant to be shared. Rest assured, this issue of statehood and other issues concerning J&K have been taken up multiple times at multiple levels. And we continue to do so," he said. He defended his pragmatic approach to engaging with the central government, emphasising that public appreciation for cooperation does not preclude him from speaking out when warranted. "As far as enjoying a good relationship is concerned, I don't see why that is something that should invite so much commentary. At the end of the day, there are political equations that exist between political parties. "Those remain in terms of whatever the National Conference has with regard to the BJP's policies or vice versa. But then there are government-to-government relations. "You tell me, barring maybe one or two examples, generally in the country, relationships between the Union government and the Prime Minister's office, I mean, normally both sides make an attempt to keep the relations cordial. "In J-K's case, the onus is again more on both the individuals who occupy the office of the chief minister and the prime minister to keep things cordial," he said. Abdullah drew a contrast with past political dynamics, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party 's (PDP) alliance with the BJP under Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti. "What was the compulsion for Mufti Sayeed to have an alliance with the BJP? And what all Mehbooba used to say about the Prime Minister and his person. That they have forgotten," he remarked, hinting at perceived political expediency. He clarified his own stance: "Confrontation happens when confrontation is due. If up until now, the Government of India has been helpful, should I not be sort of at least publicly appreciative of that? But where things are not good or where things are wrong, I am not silent on that." To a question whether his party was planning to move the Supreme Court for statehood, the chief minister said, "We are looking at various options. There have been a few conversations both within the party as well as with some experts to see what we should do." The chief minister dismissed any suggestions of a "hybrid system" where law and order would remain with the Union government even after statehood is restored. "There is no such model in this country. And why are people speculating? The people who are planting this are the same people who were planting that elections will not happen. Or elections should not happen. "Yet these very same people are silent about the failures of Pahalgam or the spread of militancy." He challenged those proposing such a system to explain the "dramatic spread" of terror infrastructure in J-K since January 2015, when he demitted office, which included the recent Pahalgam attack in which 26 people, mainly tourists, were gunned down by terrorists. "In my time, we had reduced it virtually to two to two-and-a-half districts. Today, there is hardly a district in the Valley and a large part of Jammu that is not affected," Abdullah asserted. He argued that this expansion of militancy occurred while J-K was a Union territory, under central control, not an elected government. "Elected governments seem to have done a better job," he stated, dismissing the notion that an elected government is incapable of managing the security situation. "We have managed perfectly well in the past and we will manage well in the future also. This hybrid system is not acceptable," Abdullah said. He underscored the inherent flaws of the Union territory model, questioning why such a system, if "ideal," is confined to only a few small areas. "If this is the best form of governance... Please do it in UP. Do it in Maharashtra. Do it in Chhattisgarh. Do it in all the Northeast states. Do it in Madhya Pradesh ," he challenged. Abdullah pointed out that while J-K's area has shrunk since 2019, its population remains largely the same, making the current model of governance unsuitable for its scale and needs. "This model of governance does not work," he said. He further criticised the current dual power structure, describing it as "not an ideal form of government". While acknowledging that a complete "disaster" has been averted so far, he pointed out the inherent inefficiencies and lack of accountability when there isn't a single chain of command, but expressed the hope for a swift resolution to the ongoing conversations with the Union government regarding these operational challenges and the pending business rules.

India's auto exports zoom 22% in Q1 on record car shipments; Maruti grabs nearly half the pie

Automobile exports from India grew 22 per cent year-on-year in the April-June quarter, driven by record shipments of passenger vehicles and strong performance in segments such as two-wheelers and commercial vehicles, according to data from industry body SIAM. Overall exports across all vehicle categories rose to 14,57,461 units in the first quarter of the current fiscal, up from 11,92,566 units during the same period last year. SIAM also highlighted that a rebound in neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka and Nepal, rising demand from Japan, and increased shipments under Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with countries like Australia supported the overall export momentum. Live Events Maruti grabs nearly half the pie Maruti Suzuki , the country's largest carmaker, led the passenger vehicle export charts in Q1 with shipments of 96,181 units—up more than 37 per cent from 69,962 units in the April-June quarter last year. "Maruti Suzuki has been leading India's PV exports for the past four years," said Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, at Maruti Suzuki. "Our share in exports has been increasing steadily and reached a historic high of over 47 per cent in Q1 FY 2025-26," he added. Bharti noted that Maruti Suzuki's export volumes rose over 37 per cent in the quarter, compared to a 2 per cent decline for the rest of the industry. "If customers around the world appreciate and adopt Maruti Suzuki cars, chances are the company will be the market leader in India for a long, long time," he remarked. Hyundai Motor India exported 48,140 units during the quarter, marking a 13 per cent increase from 42,600 units in the same period last year. Two-wheeler exports Two-wheeler exports climbed to 11,36,942 units in the April-June period, a rise of 23 per cent over 9,23,148 units shipped in the year-ago quarter.
