Is Sean McDermott's job at risk? Bills coach in top 10 of NFL hot seat rankings
Western New York just sweltered through a heat wave, but could the heat really be on Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott?
USA TODAY thinks his seat is getting warmer. It ranked McDermott as the No. 9 NFL coach whose job is in jeopardy in its hot seat rankings, despite winning five straight AFC East titles and coming off an AFC Championship Game appearance.

New York Giants head coach and former Buffalo offensive coordinator Brian Daboll was No. 1 on the list as a prime candidate to be fired after a 3-14 record in 2024.
Since taking over in 2017, McDermott has transformed the Bills from a team mired in a playoff drought to a perennial AFC contender. The Bills have made the playoffs in seven of McDermott's first eight seasons. However, McDermott has yet to lead them to a Super Bowl. Buffalo has lost twice to Kansas City in the AFC Championship Game and once to the Chiefs in the Divisional Round.

"The Bills continue to be unable to get past the Chiefs in the NFL postseason," USA TODAY wrote in placing McDermott on the "neutral seat." "If they can't do it again, Buffalo brass may try something different despite McDermott's success as the team's coach."

Buffalo is hardy alone in struggling to overcome the Chiefs. Kansas City, led by Patrick Mahomes, has appeared in seven straight AFC Championship Games, winning five.
McDermott's 86 regular-season wins in his first eight seasons are the second-most in league history, behind only Paul Brown's 87. He's also one of just five coaches in NFL history to secure five straight seasons with at least 11 wins.

Robert Kraft makes promise to Patriots fans after three losing seasons
New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft made a promise to fans ahead of the 2025 NFL season. That promise comes on the heels of the team hiring Mike Vrabel as its new head coach and upgrading at various roster positions after back-to-back 4-13 regular season finishes. When appearing on The Adam Schefter Podcast, Kraft pointed to the team's active free agency and 2025 NFL draft as reasons for fans to be optimistic this year. 'We have a new coach in Mike Vrabel who is really connected with the players, who's doing great work," said Kraft. "We have a young quarterback and a lot of great veterans—free agent veterans who came in. A great draft class. We're gonna have fun this year, I promise.' There haven't been many reasons to be optimistic about the Patriots in recent years. They have not made the playoffs since the 2021 season, and they have endured losing records in three consecutive years. To take things a step further, they haven't even won a playoff game since their Super Bowl LIII victory over the Los Angeles Rams. There is a sense of change with the arrival of Vrabel and a more experienced coaching staff. Quarterback Drake Maye looks like he could be a future standout, and the team has done a much better job of surrounding him with the necessary talent to be successful. Perhaps this will be the year when the Patriots finally take flight. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

Sauce Gardner opens up on how LeBron James played role in him meeting Ice Spice
LeBron James, even if unintentionally, helped play the role of matchmaker for Sauce Gardner's rumored relationship with rapper Ice Spice, the Jets cornerback told TMZ. Gardner appeared on an April 2024 episode of 'The Shop' — a podcast featuring James — alongside rapper Travis Scott, former NFL wideout Chad Ochocinco and star Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez, and Gardner told the outlet he believes that's when the couple met in person for the first time. They seemingly became Instagram official just over one year later in a post shared by Ice Spice with her and Gardner posing in front of a bathroom mirror. AP While Gardner told TMZ that he wasn't 'trying to speak too much on it' when approached in Los Angeles, he did acknowledge that he and the rapper are 'cool' — and proceeded to reveal a bit about their relationship. 'We just be having a good time,' Gardner told the outlet. 'Two young individuals, you know. She from New York. I play in New York. She talented, real talented, when it come to what she do. Same thing for me. Two people that get hated on that's really good at what we do, so we got a lot in common. We cool.' Advertisement 3 LeBron James is pictured at Fanatics Fest on June 21. Getty Images Before Ice Spice's post, the duo had been spotted out in public on different occasions, and Gardner appeared to tease the relationship earlier in April by sharing a photo on Instagram that showed them standing next to a car in New York City. When they attended a Knicks playoff game at the Garden in May, they received a loud ovation from fans in attendance as they watched the Knicks close out their second-round series against the Celtics. Gardner, 24, will enter the 2025 campaign off a rough season and is entering the last year of his rookie deal, but he still attended the Jets' mandatory minicamp instead of holding out, getting fined and attempting to make a contract statement. Bill Kostroun/New York Post 'I just wanted to show my teammates and the coaches how much I'm bought into this,' Gardner told reporters on June 12. 'I want to win. I want to be a part of changing the organization.' He earned consecutive First-Team All-Pro appearances in his first two NFL seasons — as well as winning Defensive Rookie of the Year and securing a pair of Pro Bowl spots — but failed to even make the Pro Bowl last year.

Tennessee Titans' Kevin Winston Jr. tabbed as DROY candidate
The Tennessee Titans went heavy on the offensive side of the ball during the 2025 NFL draft, adding multiple potential playmakers to the roster. That doesn't mean they ignored the defense. They used two premium picks on that side of the ball and added players who can potentially make an impact in Femi Oladejo and Kevin Winston Jr. Both Oladejo and Winston have a chance to compete for playing time. However, Winston has been limited due to his medical issues as he continues to rehab his knee after suffering an ACL injury early in 2024. That doesn't stop Jacob Infante from naming Winston his choice as the Titans' Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate. Tennessee Titans: Kevin Winston Jr. The Tennessee Titans took just one defender in the first five rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. Almost by default, Kevin Winston Jr. seems like their top contender for Defensive Rookie of the Year. As a third-round safety, his odds of winning DROY aren't incredibly high. That said, he's a hard-hitting defensive back with a high football IQ. If he gets the right opportunity, he could surprise some people. His selection of Winston appears to be by default, after glossing over the Titans' second-round selection of Oladejo. There is no doubt that Winston could make an impact in 2025 if healthy. He is a complete safety prospect with the traits needed to succeed in the defense, but his biggest question will be his availability as he returns from injury. While Winston could make an impact, Oladejo has a more straightforward path to playing time early in the season. Oladejo may be inexperienced and raw on the edge, but he brings solid athleticism and an infectious attitude to the table, and comes complete with tremendous upside. With Tennessee needing increased production from the position, Oladejo may get an opportunity early on to impress. While it is likely that both players will see significant playing time, the Titans also added a veteran during the offseason at their respective positions, making training camp crucial for both young players to establish themselves.
