Multi-layer Amarnath security in place: J&K, Punjab police
(You can now subscribe to our (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel Srinagar | New Delhi: J&K Police and Punjab Police on Wednesday said that a multi-layered security has been put in place for smooth conduct of Amarnath yatra starting from July 3. They said a smooth yatra is not possible without the help and cooperation of locals in Kashmir Valley . Punjab Police has deployed nearly 900 policemen on Amarnath yatra route in wake of intelligence inputs, according to Punjab General of Police in Kashmir VK Birdi visited the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam in Anantnag district on Wednesday which is one of the two routes for the yatra. The other route of the yatra is from Baltal in Sonamarg area of central Kashmir. During his visit, Birdi told reporters that multi-layered and in-depth security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a safe and smooth yatra. The duration of the yatra has now been reduced to 38 days from 52 days in 2024. The yatra period this year will be from July 3 to August 9."Amarnath yatra is starting from next week. This year, security forces and other agencies have put in place multi-layered and in-depth security arrangements to make the yatra smooth," Birdi told reporters here.

Multi-Layered Security In Place For Amarnath Yatra: Kashmir Police Chief
Multi-layered and in-depth security arrangements have been put in place for the upcoming annual Amarnath Yatra to ensure safe and smooth pilgrimage, Kashmir Police chief V K Birdi said on Wednesday. "The Shri Amarnath Yatra this year is starting next week. Jammu-Kashmir Police and other security forces have made all security arrangements for the yatra. Compared to last year, this time there are multi-layered and in-depth security arrangements so as to make the yatra safe and smooth," the inspector general of Kashmir Police told reporters in Anantnag. Mr Birdi visited the Nunwan base camp of the yatra along the Pahalgam axis and reviewed the security arrangements for the pilgrimage which starts July 3. The IGP said the security arrangements for the 38-day pilgrimage have been divided into different levels, including zonal, and security drills were held at every level on Wednesday ahead of the yatra. "The aim of the drills is to refine our alertness, and preparedness of our actions and responses at the time of any contingency. Such drills were conducted at every place like camps, roads or interior sections along the yatra routes so that all the security forces remain alert and know what specific tasks they have to carry out to fight any contingency," he added. Asked about the local support to the yatra, Mr Birdi said the yatra cannot be conducted without the support of the local population. "They become successful due to the help and support by the locals. This time also, the people are excited to welcome the yatris and provide them any possible help," the IGP said. Meanwhile, security forces conducted drills at Pahalgam, Anantnag, and Qazigund" in south Kashmir; Pantha Chowk in Srinagar, and Sumbal in north Kahsmir's Bandipora district.

Multi-layered security to make Amarnath Yatra safe: IGP Kashmir
Srinagar, June 25 (UNI) With the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra set to begin on July 3, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have put in place elaborate, multi-layered arrangements to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage, which draws thousands of devotees to the holy cave shrine located in the Himalayas. Addressing media after a mock exercise in south Kashmir, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi, said that this year's Yatra will be held under heightened vigilance and deeper security coordination compared to previous years. 'As compared to last year, this time we have multi-layered and in-depth security arrangements to make the Yatra safe and comfortable for the pilgrims,' Birdi said. To streamline security operations, the entire Yatra security arrangements has been divided into multiple zones and sectors, spanning both the Pahalgam and Baltal tracks. Each zone has a dedicated security layout, and today Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) drills were carried out to test readiness and refine emergency response protocols. 'The drills have been conducted across the valley, including base camps, road stretches, interior sections, and other key locations. The aim is to enhance coordination among all security units and ensure that everyone knows their specific responsibilities in case of any contingency,' the IGP explained. According to officials, the mock drills involved joint participation from J&K Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), emergency response units, disaster management authorities, medical teams, and traffic regulators. The coordinated simulation exercises focused on quick response, evacuation, and communication efficiency in case of any security threat or natural emergency like landslides or cloudbursts. IGP Birdi also underscored the importance of public cooperation, stating that the success of the Yatra has historically depended on the active support of local communities. 'These yatras have always been successful because of the wholehearted support of local people. This year too, there is tremendous enthusiasm among the locals to welcome the pilgrims, assist them, and ensure they have a safe and memorable experience,' he said. UNI MJR PRS

Kashmir zone IGP reviews security arrangements for Kheer Bhawani Mela
Kashmir zone Inspector General of Police (IGP) V K Birdi on Saturday reviewed the security arrangements for the upcoming Mela Kheer Bhawani , an official said. Talking to reporters, Birdi said stringent security arrangements have been put in place for the smooth conduct of the annual fair on June 3 at the Kheer Bhawani temple in central Kashmir's Ganderbal district . "The main function of the Mela Kheer Bhawani is on June 3. Ongoing encounter between forces and terrorists enters second day in J&K's Kishtwar

(PTI) NEW DELHI: An encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Singhpora area of Chatroo in Jammu and Kashmir 's Kishtwar district continued for the second day, with the Army confirming that one soldier died during the operation. The White Knight Corps posted on X, saying, "During the ongoing operation, fierce gunfight is continuing. One of our Brave hearts sustained grievous injuries in the exchange of fire and has succumbed despite best medical efforts. Operation is in progress." The exchange of fire started early in the morning after security personnel made contact with the terrorists. The Jammu and Kashmir Police also confirmed the gunfight, saying, "Exchange of fire started between Security Forces and terrorists in the Singhpora area of Chhatru in Kishtwar." Additional troops have been deployed to the region to support the ongoing operation, which aims to locate and neutralise the terrorists. The area has been sealed off and search efforts have been increased. Reinforcements have been brought in to maintain containment. Details regarding the number of terrorists and the current situation are still awaited. This encounter follows recent operations in other parts of Jammu and Kashmir. On May 16, inspector general of Police for Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, said that six terrorists were killed in two separate encounters in Kelar, Shopian and Tral. These were joint operations by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF. "In the wake of heightened terror activities in Kashmir Valley, all the security forces deployed here reviewed their strategies. Following this review, there was an intensified focus on operations. On the basis of this intensified focus and coordination, we conducted two successful operations in the last 48 hours during which we had significant achievement. These two operations were conducted in the Kelar in Shopian and Tral areas, which resulted in the neutralisation of a total of six terrorists. We are committed to finish the terror ecosystem in Kashmir Valley," Birdi said. The counter-terror actions have increased after the Pahalgam attack, in which 26 people, including a Nepali national, were killed. Security forces have since stepped up operations across the Union Territory.
