Oklahoma Sooners 2027 target among ESPN's best prospects

The Oklahoma Sooners are still working to shore up their 2026 recruiting class. High on their prospect board are top 100 players defensive end Jake Kreul and wide receiver Davian Groce. But as 2026 enters the final stretch, 2027 has also taken center stage as the Sooners hope to begin building momentum for next year's top prospects. 2027 four-star defensive tackle Jalen Brewster has caught the eye of the Oklahoma Sooners front office and coaching staff. They've been making a significant push for the Cedar Hill prospect and have had him on campus multiple times since issuing an offer to the North Texas prospect last August. He's already trending to be one of the top players at his position by the time the 2027 cycle finishes, and ESPN's Billy Tucker considers Brewster the No. 24 high school prospect in the nation regardless of recruiting class. Possessing violent hands and excellent play strength, Brewster is a power-based pass rusher with the ability to close with surprising quickness for his size. Those are the ingredients of an elite, disruptive interior defensive lineman. Coaches praise his motor, and there's no shortage of blue bloods vying to land his commitment. - Tucker, ESPN Jalen Brewster is the No. 1 offensive tackle across the board, and the No. 6 player according to Rivals and the No. 7 player in the class according to 247Sports. Brewster already has 21 Power Four offers and is a five-star prospect in the Rivals database. The Oklahoma Sooners have done a great job recruiting the defensive tackle position over the last several years, but Brewster could be the highest-rated prospect attracted to Oklahoma by head coach Todd Bates. Rivals currently gives the Sooners an edge in their recruiting prediction machine. There's a long way to go in his recruitment, but the Sooners are in a great spot for one of the best players in the 2027 recruiting class. Notre Dame offers the nation's best 2027 defensive lineman, Jalen Brewster

Notre Dame is trying to use its recent success on the recruiting trail, not only in the 2026 class, but in the one's following it as well. The Irish have been sending out plenty of offers to 2027 prospects, and on Monday they offered one of the country's best in Jalen Brewster. The 6-foot, 3-inch and 302-pound defensive tackle is currently a 5-star prospect, ranking as the No. 7 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite. Brewster's list of impressive offers continues to grow, as Notre Dame has joined the likes of Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State to try and win out in his recruitment. His father Robert played at Ball State and was the Dallas Cowboys third-round pick in 2009. It should come as no surprise that the Irish are once again offering the son of a former player, as they have shown a penchant for that over the last few cycles. They've had good luck luring away legacy players from other schools like 2026 linebacker Thomas Davis Jr. whose father played for UGA, and hopefully the same result with Brewster.

'Significant demand': Canada's aviation and aerospace industries may be short 55,000 workers by 2035

Article content Article content The University of Calgary, Mount Royal University and Southern Alberta Institute of Technology all have programs related to aerospace and aviation. Article content An Aerospace Innovation Hub — operated by the U of C with the help of several partner organizations — gives aerospace startups and entrepreneurs support and funding, while allowing them a place to test their technologies. Article content Aircraft maintenance engineers and structures technicians are among those trained at SAIT's Art Smith Aero Centre, located at the Calgary International Airport. They also provide diplomas in avionics technology and, more recently, certificates for remotely piloted aircraft (drones). Article content The institution is just shy of 400 students at its aviation campus this year, said Josh Brewster, associate dean of aviation and technology at SAIT's school of transportation. Article content Article content 'We're excited for aviation in Alberta. We think it's a great opportunity to diversify — these are excellent careers,' said Brewster. Article content High demand for positions, particularly aircraft maintenance engineers, is being driven by companies like WestJet and Lufthansa Technik, the latter of which signed an agreement with SAIT to develop new aviation training. Article content Lufthansa provides maintenance for WestJet's LEAP-1B engines on its fleet of Boeing 737's. In February, the two companies signed a long-term agreement valued up to US$3 billion, part of which involves the construction of a new engine maintenance facility at the airport. Article content Aerospace and aviation programming at the school has nearly doubled since 2019, made possible through their partnership with the Government of Alberta, according to Brewster. Article content 'Like so many industries, the aviation sector is not only growing, but it's experiencing an aging workforce and retirements. So between those two things, there's definitely a significant demand,' he said. Article content As de Havilland looks to expand its footprint in the Calgary area, the expectation is that will further add to demand, according to Brewster. Article content
