'I haven't seen a QB do that': Budda Baker goes on a praise parade for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray
(Image via Getty: Budda Baker and Kyler Murray) On a 14-minute-long chat with Mina Kimes, a Senior Writer at ESPN and an Analyst on NFL Live, Budda Baker, a safety for the Arizona Cardinals, goes on a complimenting spree for his team's quarterback, Kyler Murray. He says that even though Murray's short(five-foot-ten), he makes a lot of throws inside and outside of the pocket. Budda also sheds light on one of his touchdowns against the San Francisco 49ers, 'Even like that 49ers game where in San Fran, he points up to the touchdown 40-50 yards away, knowing he was going to score! I haven't seen a QB do that. So, it's definitely exciting.' Budda Baker says Kyler Murray has kind of been in the bag this whole offseason Mina Kimes asked Budda Baker on The Mina Kimes Show, 'You've been with Kyler for four years now. You all are the only players really from the 2020 team. What would you say is the number one thing about Kyler Murray that people outside of the Cardinals' building do not know?' The 7-time Pro Bowler, Budda Baker, answered, 'Just the way that he goes about practice. He practices really hard. He dictates. He tells receivers what to do - how to do it because you can see after each and every play - he's communicating to his guys - okay if you were supposed to sit in that zone, sit in the zone. He's kind of been in his bag this whole offseason, doing no-look throws and having a great offseason training camp. So K1's, he's going to run a little bit more, a little outside the pocket, inside the pocket throws. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villa For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Villas in Dubai | Search ads Learn More Undo He's kind of doing it all. Budda Baker breaks down the Cardinals' scheme & gives the inside scoop on Kyler Murray 👀 Budda Baker calls Kyler Murray the most underrated quarterback in the NFL Mina Kimes nudged, 'Who would you say is the most underrated quarterback in the NFL?' The NFL Solo Tackles Leader, Budda Baker, responded, 'I would say K1 because we haven't had a lot of national games. People kind of see him as a short guy, but this guy can make all the throws inside the pocket, outside the pocket. He's quick. You see it on tape - he's outrunning everybody all the time. Even like that 49ers game where in San Fran, he points up to the touchdown 40-50 yards away, knowing he was going to score! I haven't seen a QB do that. So, it's definitely exciting. But it's cool to just lay under the weeds and have him be that underrated guy and just kinda show who he is this year and throughout the whole season.' Kyler Murray, once called a dual-threat quarterback, is now recovering from a torn ACL suffered in 2022. Nevertheless, that has not stopped Murray from being the dual threat that he is. On April 9, Murray told PHNX Sports, 'I don't want to get too scheme-based, but I do feel like I have to run more next year. I'm open to running more next year, just because it's such a weapon, you know, it's such a weapon.' Over the years, it has been released in different ways, whether it was once a week over several weeks or in a couple of shows on NFL Network. This year, it will be done mostly on social media. The league announced that, from June 30 to Aug. 29, players No. 100-11 will be revealed on X Originals, produced by NFL Films. Two players will be released each weekday over nine weeks in videos that are three to five minutes long. They will be released at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. ET on X and NFL+. Budda Baker named Arizona Cardinals' candidate for Defensive Player of the Year
Pro Football Network named a candidate from every team for Defensive Player of the Year. We are still months away from the start of the NFL season, but that means making predictions, lists and rankings. Pro Football Network put together a list of one player from each team who could be the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Who is the guy for the Arizona Cardinals? That would be safety Budda Baker. A safety hasn't won DPOY since Troy Polamalu in 2010. But with Budda Baker being a seven-time Pro Bowler and a four-time All-Pro, he belongs somewhere in the conversation. Baker is coming off a career-high 164 tackles for the Arizona Cardinals last season. His versatility in coverage and as a tackler makes him one of the most well-rounded defensive backs in the league. Surprisingly, he hasn't had an interception since 2022. If he is to establish himself as a true DPOY contender, increasing his turnover share will be crucial. It would take a truly special year for Baker to win DPOY. In recent years, it has been for premier pass rushers or cornerbacks. Even in Polamalu's DPOY season, he picked off seven passes. Sacks and interceptions are what sell for the award. Baker has seven interceptions in his career and none since 2022. So unless Baker were to have a big interception season, it isn't likely that happens. Could anyone else come close? Perhaps cornerback Garrett Williams could make some noise in 2025, or maybe Josh Sweat, now with the big contract in hand and an increased role for the Cardinals. Special teams is the ticket for Arizona Cardinals 7th-round pick, S Kitan Crawford
The 2025 NFL draft for the Arizona Cardinals ended late Saturday afternoon with yet another defensive player, but one that could have more impact on special teams if he makes the roster. Nevada safety Kitan Crawford is the guy to keep an eye on. As general manager Monti Ossenfort said, 'What really stood out to us (is) his ability on fourth down, his ability to cover kicks and be a disruptive presence. We also think he's got a chance to develop on defense.' Dane Brugler of The Athletic agreed, writing, 'Crawford is a fluid, loose athlete who can unlock and play fast to the football, although he can be moved off his post and often reacts to the first look from the quarterback. There aren't any questions about his willingness as a run defender, but his reliability finishing tackles must improve. 'Overall, Crawford has NFL-level speed and athleticism, but his inconsistent reads reflect his meager starting experience in the secondary. His special-teams background and testing numbers will make him an appealing prospect in the later rounds.' During his first four seasons at Texas, Crawford started only four games, but then started 12 last season after transferring to Nevada. Brugler noted that his 'athletic testing created buzz at the combine,' calling him 'both fast and agile, which leads to quick on-field reactions.' One of those tests was the 40, during which he ran a 4.41. Crawford knows where his bread is buttered, telling the media after he was picked, 'My plan coming in, because I'm going into the room with Budda Baker; I watched Budda Baker a lot. I studied his game a lot. I'm a fan of his game. I'm coming in just being an impact on special teams, learning from Budda and just being an all-around good safety. I can learn a lot from him. He's a veteran, so I'm ready.' As for special teams, Crawford was asked where he developed that love. He said, 'It comes from my heart; I take pride in special teams. I love special teams. I adopted this mindset of its only one play, so why not go 100 percent?' There will be significant competition at many loaded positions on defense, but safety is one where there aren't big numbers. After Baker, Jalen Thompson and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson, there is special-teams standout Joey Blount, along with Darren Hall and Jammie Robinson, who was claimed on waivers from the Panthers on Dec. 16 last season and was inactive for three games. So, Crawford could have a shot, thanks to that special-teams desire. Asked how scouts can tell when a player truly loves that aspect of the game, Ossenfort said, 'That shows pretty easily; for guys to be the first running down the field, to throw their body around. Special teams isn't always the most glorious job. And then when you find a guy who stands out on tape with his toughness, his physicality, his effort, his finish, I think that says something about a player. 'It's harder to find. Typically in college, guys tend to graduate from special teams as their roles increase. But to find guys that still continue to give that effort, it's pretty cool to see.'
