Valencia snub Arsenal offer for 21-year-old talent

It is perhaps no surprise that Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is targeting the La Liga market this summer, given that he has plenty of knowledge from his time with Atletico Madrid. He has been unsuccessful with pursuits for Joan Garcia and Nico Williams, but things could be different with Cristhian Mosquera. It was reported earlier this week that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Mosquera to compete alongside William Saliba and Gabriel Maghalaes in central defence. The 21-year-old is certain to leave Valencia this summer due to his contract expiring in 2026, with Los Che keen to cash in now. And as reported by Radio MARCA (via CaughtOffside), Arsenal have failed to do this with their opening offer. Image via Valencia CF Advertisement Arsenal made a bid worth less than €20m for Mosquera, but this has been swiftly rejected by Valencia. It has been reported in recent weeks that €25m could be enough for Los Che to sell, but regardless, the Premier League side will need to up their offer if they are to sign their leading centre-back target. Mosquera has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal It is reported that Arsenal have already agreed personal terms with Mosquera, who is very keen on moving to the Premier League for the next step in his career. Valencia are resigned to losing him, but his sale will generate funds that can be used to improve Carlos Corberan's options across multiple areas. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal can get a deal done for Mosquera. They could face pressure from the likes of Liverpool, who have previously shown interest in the Spaniard and are in need of a new central defender due to Jarrel Quansah's imminent move to Bayer Leverkusen, but for now, they are firm favourites to get this over the line.

Cristhian Mosquera transfer update as Valencia star speaks out after Arsenal bid

Arsenal's opening bid for Cristhian Mosquera was rejected but the Gunners aren't giving up on the Valencia defender, who's entered the final year of his current deal Valencia captain Jose Gaya has issued an update on the future of team-mate Cristhian Mosquera after he was the subject of an undisclosed bid from Arsenal. Mosquera, 21, has emerged as a target for the Gunners, who want to strengthen their defensive options in the summer transfer window. Arsenal saw their opening offer rejected, with Valencia playing hardball over his future. That's despite the Spaniard only having 12 months left of his existing contract. ‌ The Gunners won't give up on Mosquera, who recently helped Spain reach the quarter-finals of the under-21 European Championship. Reports claim that Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig also rate the right-footed centre-back highly. ‌ Mosquera isn't the only in-demand Valencia youngster. There's also interest in Javi Guerra and Cesar Tarrega, but Gaya hopes that the trio will stay put. Speaking to Spanish radio station A Punt, the Valencia star explained: "I would be delighted if all three could stay because I think they can give a lot this new season and bring a lot of joy to the fans. "As of today, unless there's any breaking news, I think all three of them are still with us, and I hope it continues like this, and they continue to grow as players." Valencia's focus is on tying Mosquera down to a new deal, as they don't intend to sell him or his two team-mates this summer. A problem for the La Liga side, though, is that the 21-year-old has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal, who value his ability to play as both a right-back and centre-back. How much should Arsenal pay for Cristhian Mosquera? Let us know your valuation in the comments section. ‌ Earlier this month, Mosquera's agent, Sergio Barila, confirmed that his client was 'very happy' at Valencia, who've finally secured funding to complete a new stadium after years of setbacks. Barila also revealed that talks over a contract extension were ongoing. Since joining Valencia aged 12, big things have been expected of Mosquera. Academy coach Miguel-Angel Angulo hailed: "He is characterised by a physical condition and good technical qualities, powerful in the air, and mature for his age." Mosquera helped Spain win gold at Paris Olympic Games in 2024 before playing 41 times for Valencia last season. He played the full 90 minutes as his country lost to England under-21s in the last eight of the Euros. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Named: The SIX centre-backs on Liverpool's transfer shortlist

Zeze, Mosquera and Ordonez named as Liverpool targets First is Nathan Zeze, the 19-year-old Nantes central defender who plays for France under-21s. It's not the first time the Reds have been linked with Zeze, who is tied to his hometown club until 2028. Advertisement Next the report names Cristhian Mosquera - the Valencia stopper who features for Spain under-21s. The 21-year-old is a Valencia homegrown talent but has only got a contract with Los Che until 2026. Then there's Joel Ordonez. The Ecuadorian has been a revelation since moving to European football with Club Brugge. The 21-year-old already has got 82 matches under his belt for the Belgians and was a mainstay in their Champions League fixtures last season. Colwill back on the Liverpool shortlist Other contenders named in the report include Ousmane Diomande, the Sporting CP defender who is set to command a big fee if he moves this summer. Advertisement The club also admire Jorrel Hato, according to the report, and that tallies with a report last week from Duncan Castles on The Transfers Podcast. However, the latest suggestions appear to indicate Arsenal have stolen a march on the Reds for the 19-year-old Dutchman. Rounding off the report is a mention of Levi Colwill. It's no secret that Chelsea are seeking centre-backs this summer. Although the 22-year-old played plenty last season for Enzo Maresca, he could be squeezed out this summer. Liverpool have been linked with Colwill in the past, who can play either left-back or centre-back.

Defensive Cover and Midfield Depth Top Arsenal's Summer Agenda

Arsenal Eye Spanish Talent and Midfield Reinforcements Mosquera Emerges as Arteta's Priority Arsenal's summer strategy under Mikel Arteta continues to focus on strategic depth, with the Gunners reportedly close to a deal for Cristhian Mosquera. According to The Guardian, Arsenal are 'hopeful of agreeing a deal to sign Cristhian Mosquera after holding talks with Valencia over the Spain under-21 international.' Advertisement Mosquera, who has amassed 90 first-team appearances for Valencia, is seen as ideal cover for William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães. 'Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his defensive options and has identified Mosquera… as their main target,' The Guardian reports. With Real Madrid also circling, Arsenal's rejected opening offer of £16 million appears unlikely to stand. However, it's believed 'they are expected to return with a slightly improved bid that could persuade Valencia to sell. Midfield Reshuffle Gains Momentum Alongside the defensive push, Arsenal are expected to conclude a move for Brentford's Christian Nørgaard. The Guardian writes: 'Arsenal are also expected to wrap up the signing of Christian Nørgaard… having agreed a fee worth up to £15m for the Denmark midfielder.' The arrival of Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad further highlights the club's midfield evolution. One departure seems imminent: 'Thomas Partey looks poised to leave after failing to agree a contract extension.' Forest Hit by Rejection from Juventus Pair In contrast, Nottingham Forest's efforts in the market have stumbled. Moves for Juventus duo Timothy Weah and Samuel Mbangula, reportedly worth £19.6 million, have failed. 'The pair rejected the move,' The Guardian notes. Weah and Mbangula were then omitted from the Juventus side that 'were left out of the Juventus squad beaten 5-2 by Manchester City.' Excited Arsenal Supporter This could be the most sensible summer Arsenal have had in years. Mosquera looks like a classy addition. Young, experienced and raised in La Liga's tactical crucible, he's exactly what you want as Saliba's shadow. If we're going to fight on multiple fronts, depth like this matters. That's smart business. He might not dominate headlines, but he'll help us control games and protect the backline. And Zubimendi? If that one gets done too, the midfield will be transformed. Losing Partey makes sense. Injuries have disrupted his flow, and while he's technically gifted, his wage demands and inconsistencies mean it's probably time. As for Forest, you've got to wonder how they pitch these moves. Weah and Mbangula rejecting them might sting, but it speaks to the uphill battle clubs like Forest face. If they can't land their targets, survival could become a problem before a ball is even kicked.

Cristhian Mosquera could reject Arsenal and stay at Valencia on one condition

Cristhian Mosquera will consider rejecting interest from Arsenal to stay at Valencia if he is offered the right contract, according to reports in Spain. The Gunners have identified the Spain Under-21 international as their top defensive target, eager to bring him in to provide cover and competition for the first-choice pairing of William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes. Arsenal launched an opening offer of €19million this week which was swiftly rejected by Valencia. Mosquera, who turned 21 today, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Mestalla with Los Che eager to tie him down to a long-term deal. Valencia are still to present the defender with a formal offer, however. Cadena Ser report Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Mosquera's representatives were recently invited to the club's offices where they were 'informed of the club's intentions' without any deal being presented. A formal contract offer has been postponed until the arrival of Valencia's new chief executive Ron Gourlay, who will officially begin his duties next week. Mosquera has grown into a vital member of Carlos Corberan's first-team and while Arsenal are expected to return with a second bid, reports elsewhere suggest he will consider remaining in Spain. Las Provincias claims Mosquera may choose to stay at the club if he is offered a new deal that is in line with his prominent role in the team. Mosquera's agent Sergio Barila sat down with Valencia officials earlier this month, reportedly the first time the two parties had met 'in months' to discuss a new deal. In comments made before Arsenal's interest in his client came to light, Barila said: 'We came to speak with the club and in a few days we will speak again and both parties will analyse the situation. More Trending Man behind viral video of fight at Ibiza hotel pool is a pro-footballer 'The boy is very happy at Valencia CF, he has always expressed that. 'Now he is focused on the U21 national team and we will have time to find solutions.' Mosquera was part of the Spain Under-21 squad that crashed out of the European Championships against England last week. He played the full 90 minutes, briefly coming up against a potential future teammate in Ethan Nwaneri.
