Ravens Can Poke Fun At Steelers Moves for One Major Reason
Ravens Can Poke Fun At Steelers Moves for One Major Reason originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There's an old TV commercial stuck in our heads here about women's hair products. And the jingle went, "You're not getting older. You're getting better!" Advertisement The Pittsburgh Steelers know the feeling. And the Baltimore Ravens (who surely don't know the jingle) know the joke. The Pittsburgh Steelers, love 'em or hate 'em, have inarguably executed a series of bold moves this offseason, in large part in an attempt to catch and surpass the Ravens in the AFC North. The team started its roll by trading for star wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, and then by shipping fellow receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. Next? The Steelers famously (infamously?) added future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers via free agency, the four-time MVP having been dumped by the New York Jets. Advertisement And this week? Two more gets, as on Monday, the Steelers swapped out starting defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick in exchange for tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Miami Dolphins. So, what's the joke? The Steelers have maybe gotten better. But they have surely gotten older. ... and that is a good enough reason to the rival to be the victim of some good-natured pokes and jokes. Smith turns 30 in August. Ramsey will turn 31 this season. And Rodgers will of course turn 42 in what he plans to make his final NFL season. Critics, led by some Ravens followers, are piling on, sort of skipping over the overall makeup of coach Mike Tomlin's roster, which includes young standouts like Troy Fautanu, Jaylen Warren, Derrick Harmon and Joey Porter Jr. and many others. Advertisement Also skipped over in Baltimore is the truth about what the "long in the tooth'' talent can do. ... and nobody exemplifies that better than the ageless Derrick Henry, still in the argument for NFL's best running back even in his 10th season at age 31. NFC West places 3rd in NFL division rankings
The NFC West was among the most competitive divisions throughout the 2024 season. The 10-7 Seattle Seahawks were the lone double-digit win team to miss the playoffs. The fellow 10-7 Los Angeles Rams captured the division title via the tiebreaker. The NFC West projects as a competitive division again in 2024. The San Francisco 49ers appear poised to bounce back from a disappointing campaign. The Arizona Cardinals are viewed as an ascending squad. Advertisement Pro Football Focus recently ranked all eight divisions around the league. The NFC West placed third, trailing just the AFC West and NFC North. "Seattle faces more uncertainty, with Sam Darnold stepping in at quarterback and no D.K. Metcalf in the receiving corps," Trevor Sikkema wrote about the Seahawks. "If the Cardinals take the next step — and there's reason to believe they can — the NFC West could turn into a four-team slugfest. The Rams remain one of the toughest outs in the league, and if not for the blizzard in their playoff game against the Eagles, they might have been on their way to the NFC Championship Game." The NFC West's cumulative over/under win total for the 2025 campaign is 37, tying the AFC West and NFC North for first place in PFF's projected division rankings. The Seahawks are certainly the biggest wild-card in the division. If John Schneider's sweeping offseason changes prove fruitful, the NFC West will be as competitive as ever in 2025. Seahawks, Chargers are co-favorites for D.K. Metcalf
Wednesday's flurry of news included the fact that receiver D.K. Metcalf wants to fly the coop in Seattle. So where will he land? Currently, DraftKings has the Seahawks and the Chargers as +300 co-favorites for Metcalf. The Patriots aren't far behind, at +350. The Texans are fourth at +550, followed by the Raiders at +700 and the Steelers and Broncos at 12-1. It's surprising the Seahawks have such low odds. Given the way word surfaced — with the Metcalf news landing at a time when the Seahawks were trying to give receiver Tyler Lockett a proper sendoff — the Seahawks reportedly are salty. The current momentum points toward a divorce. What'll it take? As explained on Wednesday, while 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel isn't looking for a new deal on his way through the door in Washington (the trade becomes official on Wednesday), Metcalf is. Dianna Russini of reports that he's looking for $30 million per year, and that the Seahawks want a first- and third-round pick. That's what the Eagles gave the Titans for receiver A.J. Brown (Metcalf's Ole Miss teammate) three years ago. Metcalf's next team will have to strike the right balance between paying the player and satisfying his current team. The more money they give Metcalf, the less capital they'll want to sent to Seattle. And vice-versa. It becomes a thee-way negotiation, that requires two needles to be threaded by his next team. Still, the overall circumstances (capped by the news of Metcalf wanting out becoming the turd in the punch bowl of what should have been Tyler Lockett Day) suggest that this thing could move, quickly. And that, come next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. ET, Metcalf could indeed officially be on a new team.

Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf requests trade, prefers contender. Could Chiefs be perfect fit?
Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf requests trade, prefers contender. Could Chiefs be perfect fit? The Kansas City Chiefs made moves to add talent to their receiving corps last season, but they fell just short of finding a long-term fix to give Patrick Mahomes viable options in the passing game. Rookie standout Xavier Worthy figures to play a key role in Kansas City's offense moving forward, and 2023 second-round pick Rashee Rice is set to return from injury next season, but it remains unclear if the Chiefs are done adding talent at the wide receiver position. On Wednesday, reports surfaced that star wideout D.K. Metcalf had requested a trade from the Seattle Seahawks, which is set to make one of the NFL's top pass-catchers available for a team in need of a big-bodied wideout. Kansas City's front office should absolutely take a look at Metcalf in the coming days and evaluate what kind of edge he could bring to the Chiefs' offense. General manager Brett Veach has already been active in the trade market heading into free agency, and with a player like Metcalf available, fans should expect Kansas City to do its due diligence on every elite playmaker who might help the Chiefs get back to the Super Bowl next season.
