Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Faith Ward on her journey from Porirua to American fame

Ward attended a 'very small, intimate school', just north of Porirua, where she believes knowing all the teachers' names was a great way to grow up. 'I feel like that definitely shaped me into the person I am today; it's very crazy to think that that's where my life started,' she said. Faith Ward becomes the first New Zealander to make the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. Photo / Supplied Ward's mum was a dance teacher at the Wellington School of Dance, and started taking her to her lessons. Ward recalls joining in, prancing around with ribbons to avoid being bored. She said she didn't even initially want to dance, but her mum noticed a natural rhythm and encouraged her to sign up for a few lessons. The dance lessons quickly became more competitive, and before she knew it, she was 'winning a few awards, was like, 'Oh, I'm actually maybe kind of good at this',' she said. Wellington School of Dance teacher Suzanne Denton started teaching Ward from age of 4, and said she had immense talent and determination. Ward was part of the dance school's competition teams and had a natural ability. Denton said she 'was a delight to teach'. The whole team was incredibly proud of her, and the achievement just 'shows what kind of person she actually is.' Denton said Ward is a true inspiration for the next generation of dancers that she teaches, and 'coming from NZ, being able to achieve something like this on the world stage is very inspirational for all dancers'. Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Faith Ward experimented with a whole range of dance formats while living in New Zealand as a child. Ward recalls begging her mum to let her try cheerleading at Big Air gym in Tawa as well as dancing, as that's what 'all my friends from school were doing'. Big Air was Ward's first taste of cheerleading, which she said brought out a whole new side of the sport, and made her stronger as an athlete. An appearance on children's TV show What Now when she was 8 was a defining moment, where the gears clicked and she realised this was what she wanted to do as a forever job. 'That's where I kind of went, 'there's some opportunity in dancing. I could make this a thing'.' Fast forward to the past few weeks, which Ward dubbed some of the hardest, most gruelling weeks of her life: she has made her dream come true as a Dallas Cowboy. The Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders are renowned as one of the world's top cheer groups. Thousands of dancers go through intense training camps each year to try and secure a spot among the elite. They have been performing at Dallas Cowboy's NFL games since 1961. Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Faith Ward previously performed in the musical Annie at the St James Theatre Wellington in 2014. Ward said during training camps, they would be shown a dance taught just the day prior, and have to perform the entire routine. If the coaches weren't impressed, they'd cut them from the programme on the spot. The cheerleaders became a global phenomenon with the launch of Netflix docuseries, America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, which came out last year, showing a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes. It's an achievement no Kiwi has made before, becoming America's newest sweetheart. 'I'm honestly so honoured and so privileged to be representing NZ,' she said.

Matty Healy takes aim at Taylor Swift during Glastonbury performance

Matty Healy couldn't resist taking a cheeky swipe at ex Taylor Swift on stage at Glastonbury - as his fiancée Gabriette watched on. The singer - son of Loose Women panellist Denise Welch and actor Tim Healy - headlined the Pyramid Stage with his band The 1975 to mixed reviews on Friday night. ‌ Despite vowing never to write about his past relationships, unlike his famous ex, Matty shared a subtle joke about his time with the Shake It Off hitmaker. ‌ 'I'm probably the best songwriter of my generation — the best,' he told the crowd on Worthy Farm. 'What do we say? A poet.' He teased in an apparent dig at Taylor's album,Tortured Poets Society. Their union fizzled out within weeks but was enough to inspire the Blank Space singer to mention Healy in a number of tracks on her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department. On a podcast in October, Matty seemingly revealed he would not be producing a musical reply to Taylor's swipes - saying that he is 'not interested in' writing about the 'casual romantic liaisons' he has 'become known for'. ‌ 'If I made a record about, I don't know, all the stuff that was said about me, or my casual romantic liaisons, or my, whatever it may be, that I've kind of become known for, just because I was famous,' he mused. 'I think that's an obvious thing to draw from. I'm just not interested in it. And I think that the maintenance of the status quo is something that I always fight against. 'So the idea of making a record about something that personally happened to me, that by the time I put it out is going to be like, two years old. I see people doing that as well, and it's just not interesting.' ‌ The 1975's performance at Glastonbury this week has been met with divided opinions by fans. Singer Matty opened the set holding a pint of Guinness he didn't seem to drink, with a cigarette in the other hand. Fans took to social media to share their opinions of the gig. One wrote: "Matty Healy swaggering about with a pint he's no intention of drinking is the most annoying thing I've ever seen." Another said: "Matty Healy trolls on stage at Glastonbury: 'I'm probably the best songwriter of my generation — the best, what do we say? A poet.'" ‌ "Matty Healy carrying a pint of Guinness around to appear relatable and has not drunk a single sip in 10 minutes," another added. However, there were plenty of viewers that loved the show. One commented: "I do understand why Matty Healy is a polarising character but I think The 1975 are a brilliant band with sharp songwriting, brilliant diversity in sound & excellent musicianship. Still my favourites!" As a second took to the platform to say: "Say what you want about Matty Healy but he is a SHOW MAN."

Lauren Sanchez labelled 'tacky' in cruel swipe on Jeff Bezos wedding day

Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos tied the knot yesterday in a multi-million dollar celebration surrounded by plenty of A-list friends in Venice, Italy – but some weren't pleased Jeff Bezos' wife Lauren Sanchez has been labelled "tacky" by Katie Couric on her wedding day. The billionaire couple tied the knot this week in their no expenses spared celebration. However, it seems that one journalist wasn't too impressed by the event as she called Lauren "tacky". Katie Couric got involved in the last post from Jack Schlossberg, who is a writer famous for being the nephew of John F. Kennedy Jr. and the daughter of Caroline Kennedy. ‌ Schlossberg appeared to have poked fun at Bezos and Sánchez over the wedding celebration in Venice, Italy, this week. He reposted the cover of Vogue on Friday which showed Lauren in her white lace wedding dress. ‌ READ MORE: This Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader-approved setting spray will keep your make-up in place this heatwave He captioned the photo: "Like I said … vogue." Lauren looked stunning in the snap as she smiled from ear to ear while wearing her dress which featured long sleeves and a figure hugging shape. It also had floral lace which hugged her hips before fanning out at the knees. Couric then left her comment where she called the bride "tacky" in a cruel dig. "Welcome to the eighties — when big hair and conspicuous consumption ruled. Apparently tacky is back," she wrote. The world's second richest man Jeff Bezos got married to with his long-term partner Lauren in Venice, Italy yesterday. The couple are husband and wife after they said their "I do's" in an extravagant £48million ceremony surrounded by their famous friends and family – despite already having a smaller, legal ceremony beforehand. ‌ The couple said their vows in a ceremony lasting around 25 minutes, with family and friends gathered at the event. They were heard cheering, clapping and whistling for the pair after they said "I do". The pair got married in front of a number of celebrities including the Kardashian-Jenners, Oprah Winfrey and Leonardo DiCaprio. Ivanka Trump was also in attendance as was Rania Al Abdullah, the Queen of Jordan. Despite the pair celebrating their nuptials in Venice this week, it has been reported that the pair had actually tied the knot weeks ago. ‌ According to an insider involved in the event planning, they said: "They have been married for at least a month, more than a month. The marriage is fully legal and took place in America under American law." This week's festivities have been widely billed as their wedding, but the source revealed it's purely ceremonial. "When they were planning the wedding, they were clear about the fact that they were already secretly married," they said. It has been reported that Bezos himself confirmed the legal union and noted the pair had arranged a prenuptial agreement to safeguard his $244 billion fortune. Bezos and Sanchez reportedly married privately in the U.S., well before the high-profile celebration began.
