Ray Fittipaldo says Joey Porter Jr.'s development caused one Steelers coaching change
Joey Porter Jr. has had an up-and-down first two years in the NFL — and according to insider Ray Fittipaldo, ex-Steelers DB coach Grady Brown may be at fault. On a recent episode of 93.7 The Fan, Fittipaldo connected Porter's development issues to Brown losing his job in Pittsburgh: Advertisement "[Steelers DB coach Gerald Alexander] said he thinks [Joey]'s elite at the line of scrimmage, in terms of disrupting, but it's everything that happens after that where Joey still struggles. Like, your transition to your coverage, then once you're close to your guy — don't put your hands on him, and then be more opportunistic when the ball's in the air. He's been kind of behind the eight ball in all three of those things. "That's Gerald's job. That's why Grady Brown is no longer here. Joey Porter has not developed the way they hoped he thought he would as a No. 32 overall pick in that draft." The Steelers hired Alexander in February to serve as the new defensive backs coach, while Brown was picked up by the Saints to serve as their new cornerbacks coach. Porter could be in for a major breakout in 2025 alongside newly signed CB Darius Slay Jr., who's taken the third-year Steelers corner under his wing this offseason. Steelers' New Cornerback Jalen Ramsey Gets Pay Raise Ahead of 2025
Steelers' New Cornerback Jalen Ramsey Gets Pay Raise Ahead of 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers' newsworthy offseason continues to turn heads. The team acquired cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith, along with a seventh-round pick in 2027, from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. Advertisement This move is on the heels of Pittsburgh acquiring corner Darius Slay Jr. earlier in the offseason. The Steelers might have one of, if not the, best cornerback crews in the NFL with Ramsey, Slay Jr. and Joey Porter Jr. But the trade was just the first part of the deal with Ramsey. The Steelers have reportedly already given the All-Pro corner a pay raise ahead of next season. "The Miami Dolphins have agreed to trade three-time All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers," ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote via his X account. "As a part of the trade, Ramsey will get a $1.5 million raise this season, bringing his 2025 compensation up to $26.6 million. Steelers get their man and Ramsey gets another raise." Advertisement Ramsey will enter his 10th season in the league. The seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro will be joining his fourth team in the league after being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016, then moving to the Rams in 2019 and the Dolphins in 2023. The former Florida State Seminole has registered 534 total tackles with 432 solo and 27 for loss. He has added three sacks, two fumble recoveries, six forced fumbles and 24 interceptions with one pick-6 across 135 games and 134 starts. Steelers CB Jalen Ramsey revealed what jersey number he'll wear in Pittsburgh
Roll out the red carpet, Pittsburgh — former Dolphins superstar CB Jalen Ramsey has arrived! The Steelers shocked the NFL world with their blockbuster acquisition on Monday — and it didn't take long for Ramsey to reveal what number he'd wear in Pittsburgh: No. 5. Ramsey wore No. 20 with the Jaguars and Rams, but switched to No. 5 when the new NFL jersey rule came into effect in 2021 — which allowed more positions to wear single-digit numbers. Advertisement The Steelers will lean on Ramsey, Darius Slay Jr., and Joey Porter Jr. to carry the Black and Gold secondary — a trio of talented defensive backs that will definitely have their hands full in a competitive AFC North environment. 3 Steelers defenders primed for breakout season in 2025
As the Steelers' 2025 roster begins to take shape, several defensive players are positioned for huge breakout seasons this year. These three defenders have flashed moments of greatness — but 2025 could be the year they break out and solidify themselves among the NFL's elite. Pittsburgh won 34-11. Mandatory Credit: Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports Porter's first two years in the NFL were filled with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows — but all that should change in Year 3 for the Steelers corner. The acquisition of Darius Slay Jr. should work wonders for Porter's development, as the veteran cornerback has claimed he's already taken the young Steeler under his wing. Mandatory Credit: Joseph Maiorana-Imagn Images Wilson had a tremendous rookie season and has shown zero signs of slowing down this offseason — having added weight to his frame in preparation to deliver an even more impressive Year 2. The return of veteran ILB Cole Holcomb could push the young linebacker to new heights, as Wilson gears up to potentially lead the retooled Steelers defense. Mandatory Credit: Barry Reeger-USA TODAY Sports Benton has steadily improved every year since being drafted by the Steelers in 2023 — and there's no reason to assume that'll change in 2025, especially after the unit vastly improved this offseason through both free agency and the NFL Draft. Nose tackles may be the unsung heroes on defense, but no one will be able to deny Benton's impact this year as he pairs with Cam Heyward and rookie Derrick Harmon to form one of the league's strongest interior defensive lines. Jalen Ramsey to Steelers rumors shot down by insider Gerry Dulac
The Jalen Ramsey trade speculation took the Steel City by storm — but one insider may argue there's little stock to these rumors. Insider Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette was asked during Thursday's Steelers Chat when Ramsey would be traded to Pittsburgh — and this was his response: Advertisement "I'd take a rain check on that one if I were you." Dulac is one of the most well-respected Steelers insiders, having previously broken the news of Aaron Rodgers' first meeting in Pittsburgh — making his insight feel more like fact than fiction. The Ramsey-to-Pittsburgh rumors have been limited to a UCLA training photo and the supposed following of several Steelers players on Instagram — but as with all speculation, it should be taken with a grain of salt. If Ramsey is ultimately traded elsewhere, the Steelers still boast a strong cornerback duo with Joey Porter Jr. and the newly acquired veteran Darius Slay Jr. — but one could argue signing another slot CB to push Beanie Bishop Jr. is still the move to make.
