Ford Territory Dark Edition: Stitched to embrace tradition
Top of the range: The Ford Territory Dark Edition replaces the Titanium variant. Ford launched the Territory Dark Edition in South Africa this week with some styling changes to what was already a worthy contender in a very crowded SUV segment. The Territory comes in three trims: Ambiente, Trend and now the Dark Edition, which replaces the Titanium variant that I The Titanium variant felt in sync with competitors as it has a bold exterior mixed with a fancy interior that felt very accomplished. The one thing I did notice with the Titanium variant is that both inside and out, it doesn't have the usual characteristics of a Ford SUV. Whether it was the broad, squared headlights, or other unique styling features that allow you to distinguish a Ford from other SUVs out there, something was just missing. Not that it was bad, but it feels good to step into a vehicle that understands its identity. With the Territory Dark Edition, Ford has made the exterior more stylish and athletic. In the front, the grille has been upgraded to satin black, combined with high-gloss black treatment for the skid plate, fog lamp accents and mirror caps. This bold and assertive exterior styling certainly does allow the vehicle to express itself a bit more. The black 19-inch alloy wheels also add to the visual presence of the vehicle and the 'Territory' branding has been changed to black at the rear of the vehicle. However, it is the interior of the Dark Edition that really uplifts the vehicle and gives it its own identity. Ford has ditched the wooden finish underneath the dashboard that was present in the Titanium variant. Instead, the vehicle has a high-gloss, black-painted strip for the instrument panel that feeds perfectly into the cyber-orange stitching that is lined along the dashboard and on the super comfortable leather seats. The orange stitching is also used in Ford's Wildtrak variants of the Ranger and Everest. This small touch is one of the highlights of the Territory Dark Edition because it gives you the feeling that you are sitting in a Ford. It's amazing how lines of stitching can make a vehicle feel complete. The spacious interior is the other highlight. Backseat passengers are treated to an immense amount of headroom and legroom — and that is standard, no matter which variant you choose. The orange stitching is a welcome addition to the Territory Dark Edition Under the bonnet, the Territory Dark Edition still comes with the 1.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine that delivers 138kW of power and 318Nm of torque. That means that the ride quality on the Dark Edition and Titanium models are exactly the same — a smooth drive with a solid suspension and more than enough power to get you by. In terms of safety, the Dark Edition has all the features that were present in the Titanium variant such as a blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert; adaptive cruise control with stop and go; pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking; lane keep assist; lane departure warning and lane change assist. The Dark Edition gains a 360-degree camera that provides all-round visibility — a boon when getting into tight parking spaces and manoeuvring around obstacles. A 360 degree camera has also been added Ford maintains that the Territory is all about family. The bold, exceptional styling that you get with the Dark Edition is an added bonus. Pricing starts at R593 500 for the Ambiente, the Trend comes in at R650 500 and the Dark Edition is priced at R733 000. The Dark Edition has kept it fresh, like the Titanium model that it replaces, but it embodies the brand. However, it is still a very competitive segment and Ford has produced an all-round quality vehicle at a reasonable price for what you are getting.

Tata Curvv Gets Price Hike- Here's How Much Creta Rival Costs Now
Tata Motors has revised the prices of the Curvv coupe-SUV with immediate effect. With the changes in place, the vehicle is now more expensive by up to Rs 13,000, depending on the variant. Along with this, the brand has made changes in the prices of other models as well. Specifically, the Tiago, Tiago NRG, and the Tigor. The starting price for the Curvv's entry-level model remains at Rs. 10 lakh. The prices for several other variants, including the Accomplished S GDI turbo-petrol MT Dark Edition, Accomplished S GDI turbo-petrol DCA Dark Edition, Accomplished+ A GDI turbo-petrol MT Dark Edition, Accomplished+ A GDI turbo-petrol DCA Dark Edition, Smart diesel MT, Accomplished S diesel MT Dark Edition, Accomplished S diesel DCA Dark Edition, Accomplished+ A diesel MT Dark Edition, and Accomplished+ A diesel DCA Dark Edition, also stay the same. A price increase of Rs. 3,000 applies to the Creative S GDI turbo-petrol MT, Accomplished+ A GDI turbo-petrol DCA, Creative+ S GDI turbo-petrol MT, Creative+ S GDI turbo-petrol DCA, Accomplished S GDI turbo-petrol MT, Accomplished+ A GDI turbo-petrol MT, and Accomplished+ A GDI turbo-petrol DCA versions of the Tata Curvv. All remaining variants experience a consistent price change of Rs. 13,000. The Tata Curvv is available with three different engine options: two petrol variants and one diesel variant. The 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine produces 118 hp alongside 170 Nm of torque. The Curvv's 1.2-litre Hyperion petrol engine offers 123 hp and 225 Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre diesel engine has an output of 116 hp and 260 Nm. Each engine choice comes with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DCA. With these specs, the Tata Curvv competes against models like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and others.

Ford introduces Dark Edition to gain more Territory in SUV segment
Blue Oval's plush SUV gunning for Chinese brands after outperforming heritage rivals. After performing better than expected by its own admission in its first year, the Blue Oval hopes the newly-introduced Dark Edition derivative will help the Ford Territory gain further ground in the cut-throat SUV domain. The Territory was heaven sent for the American carmaker who had no footprint in the local C-SUV segment after dropping the ill-fated Kuga from its portfolio. It has not only outperformed rivals from fellow heritage brands in the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, VW Tiguan, Mazda CX-5 and Toyota RAV4, but also taken the fight to the Chinese SUVs. Which is ironic, seeing that the Ford Territory is sourced from China. Ford Territory gets new top dog The Ford Territory Dark Edition has been introduced as the line-up's new flagship at the expense of the Titanium. It comes at R733 000, which is a R13k premium over the Titanium. The other two derivatives, the Ambiente and Trend, are kept unchanged. Up front, the 1.8-litre EcoBoost turbo petrol engine produces 138kW of power and 318Nm of torque sent to the front wheels via seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. While the Titanium's styling was easy on the eye, the Ford Territory Dark Edition makes a strong statement. It features a gloss black grille, roof rails and mirror caps along with black wheel arch cladding, black finish at the base of the bumpers, black front skidplate and black Territory lettering on the tailgate. Picture: Supplied A touch of class The spacious interior features black perforated leather seats along with leather trim on the dashboard and doors and black roofliner. Ford is quick to point out the Cyber Orange stitching and seam on the seats, doors, dashboard and steering wheel are reminiscent of the popular Ford Ranger Wildtrak hue. Making its debut on the Ford Territory is a 360-degree surround-view camera system. It is part of an impressive specification list which also includes dual 12.3-inch displays with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and eight-speaker sound system. Also standard is a wireless smartphone charger, dual-tone panoramic roof, electric tailgate, ambient lighting, electric front seats, front and rear parking sensors, tyre pressure monitor, rain sensing wipers, automatic LED headlights, keyless entry and push-button start. A wide array of safety systems include advanced features such as: Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring and Traffic Jam Assist. There is enough power on tap for your everyday needs and you don't need any more in a family mover. And using it for that purpose is exactly what we did during the launch drive from Lanseria to Gold Reef City. Picture: Supplied Ford family promise As The Citizen Motoring has reported, the brakes are rather sensitive, but nothing you can't get used to over time. Throttle calibration, like on almost all Chinese cars, are also no perfect. And speaking of the Chinese brands, Ford is on an active mission to remind customers of its comprehensive family promise when weighing the Territory up against more affordable like-for-like SUVs. The Ford Family Promise is made up of 21 components which include anything from mobile servicing and two-year guarantee on spare parts to comprehensive insurance. The Dark Edition is a solid package with the right looks and tech to take the fight to its rivals. Expect bigger things from this plush SUV. Ford Territory is ideal for driving around the Kruger Park
The size and comfort of the SUV made spending hours on Kruger's roads easy and comfortable. My wife and I love going to the Kruger National Park, but neither of us owns a car suited to that sort of trip. So, when we were offered a Ford Territory, we jumped at the opportunity. The Ford Territory SUV in Titanium guise was a far better option than my old Kia Picanto. When my wife goes to Kruger, she likes to take half of our household items with her. Despite this, the Territory had more than enough room for our bags, cooler boxes and other miscellaneous items. ALSO READ: Ford Territory takes the sting out of the daily traffic grind Ford Territory spacious and comfortable Driving on the highway for most of the journey to the park was pleasant. The Territory is so spacious and comfortable that the long stretches on the road seemed to go by quickly. The brakes are very sharp but you get used to it fairly quickly. Although I'm not a fan of automatics, the gear changes in the Territory are fairly smooth compared to other automatics I've driven in the past. I also had to keep checking the speedometer – on a few occasions I found myself going above the speed limit, but it felt like we were casually cruising. It is, however, quite a thirsty car. On the open road we were averaging 9.2L/100km, but that did decrease to 8.5L/km once we were driving very slowly in the Kruger Park. The Ford Territory offers plenty of space inside the cabin. Picture: Gareth Cotterell It was inside the park that the beauty of this car revealed itself. The Territory is perfect for this. ALSO READ: Ford Territory gets the feminine vote as a comfortable daily ride Perfect for game viewing The nature of spending a few days in the Kruger Park is that you spend most of the day inside the car. The ample room inside meant we never felt like we were on top of each other. There was also plenty of space – and compartments – for the many items taken on game drives, such as binoculars, snacks, bird books and a flask of coffee. The 190mm ground clearance also became handy when viewing game. This was most obvious when a scrum of cars formed next to a hyena with a clutch of cubs right next to the road. Even when other cars were trying to squeeze into every available space between us and the pups, we were still able to keep an eye on them. Picture: Gareth Cotterell Kruger's dirt roads no match The other standout moment for the Ford Territory came when we decided to take a quick evening drive to a waterhole near our camp. My wife decided she'd drive there. The small dam was only accessible via a dirt road. Now the car had been on a few dirt roads already and handled them with no problem, but this particular road was different. The whole stretch was craggy and regular potholes rivalled some of the worst roads in Joburg. The car handled the road superbly, my wife not so much. I drove back to our camp – while my wife calmed her nerves with a beer – and found the drive fun. I stupidly forgot to try out the Mountain driving mode for this part of the park, but it probably wasn't even necessary. All in all, the Ford Territory is ideal for visiting the Kruger Park. The size and comfort are perfect for people like us, who spend most of the day winding up and down the roads, but still enjoy being cosy while we do it.

A Dark Art: New Ford Territory flagship SUV arrives in SA
The new Ford Territory Dark Edition has the same turbocharged 1.8-litre petrol engine producing 138kW and 318Nm. It's available in Lustrous Crystal White, Grey, Panther Black, and Ruby Red. Unique to the Territory Dark Edition is a new 360-degree camera. A year after its launch, Ford South Africa has introduced its first update to the Territory range with the new Dark Edition, replacing the outgoing and former flagship Territory Titanium. The Dark Edition is a relatively mild update, altering the vehicle's main cosmetic focal points but not going beyond skin deep. As the name suggests, anything formerly chrome or mirror-finish has been replaced with high-gloss black. These include its satin black grille, high-gloss black treatment for the skid plate, fog light accents and mirror caps. It looks particularly striking in Crystal White but is available in other colours, such as Lustrous Grey, Panther Black, and Ruby Red. Inside, the polarising blue and black leather combination in the Titanium makes way for conventional black leather to match the Territory Dark Edition's charcoal black headliner, pillars, door trims, and instrument panel with Cyber Orange stitching. As the new flagship in the range, it inherits the Titanium's technological full house. Nice-to-haves such as the eight-speaker sound system, wireless charging and the 12.3-inch high-definition digital instrument cluster in combination with the 12.3-inch landscape infotainment touchscreen are all standard. Safety features are equally weighty and include Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross-Traffic Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Change Assist. Unique to the Territory Dark Edition is a new 360-degree camera that provides all-round visibility. With 138kW of power and 318Nm sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed DCT automatic gearbox, the Dark Edition can't use its bolder looks to race ahead of its siblings. The 1.8-litre turbocharged engine is unchanged, as are the four driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Mountain. In a fiercely competitive segment that seems to gain new, mostly Chinese, competitors almost weekly, the new Dark Edition will hope to shed a lot more light on the avalanche of SUVs. Pricing Territory Dark Edition 1.8L EcoBoost 7AT – R733 000 Pricing includes a six-year or 90 000km Ford Optional Service Plan, four-year or 120 000km Ford warranty, four-year or unlimited-distance Roadside Assistance, and a five-year or unlimited-distance corrosion warranty. In addition, over-the-counter (OTC) parts and service parts warranty (SPW) are covered for two years or unlimited distance. The recommended service interval is 15 000km or annually, whichever occurs first.
