'Jab Zaroorat Padegi, Ghar Se...': When Rishabh Pant Stunned Ex-India Star After Ranji Trophy Snub

Last Updated: During his Under-19 days, an uber-confident Rishabh Pant didn't take his non-selection in Delhi's Ranji Trophy squad to the heart. Delhi had a stormy build-up to their Ranji Trophy 2015-16 campaign. Before the season got underway, Ajay Jadeja quit as their head coach and claimed that 'players are being used to settle scores" in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). Jadeja oversaw just a few days of training sessions before stepping away. A certain Rishabh Pant would go on to make his first-class debut midway through the season after being initially snubbed from the squad. Jadeja recalls how he tried convincing the Pant to attend Delhi's training session after he wasn't picked in the Ranji Trophy squad. However, the then 18-year-old wicketkeeper-batter turned down the idea and confidently proclaimed that if needed, the team management will call him. 'I will never forget our first meeting," Jadeja recalled on Sony Sports. 'I was the coach of Delhi for a few days before quitting (in 2015). The selectors and captain kept arguing over the players they wanted to have in the team. Pant wasn't picked. I still told him (Pant) to attend the practice session for the Ranji Trophy, telling him that it doesn't matter that you've not been selected, there will be a chance in future." 'He (Pant) replied, ' B haiya rehne do na, jab zaroorat padegi, ghar se bulayenge' (Let it be. When they need me, they will call me from home)." Rishabh Pant's FC Record For Delhi Pant was eventually called up for Delhi's fourth match of the season and made his FC debut against Bengal in drawn game at home. He scored 28 off 46 in the first innings and 57 off 71 in the second dig. Overall, he has played 18 first-class matches for Delhi and scored 1413 runs at an average of 54.34. He has four centuries and as many half-centuries to his name. In this second Ranji Trophy season, Pant blasted a famous triple-century – 308 against Maharashtra at the Wankhede Stadium at the age of 19. First Published: June 26, 2025, 10:11 IST

DRS of different kind! How cops are using face recognition technology to secure IPL matches

New Delhi: To ensure orderly conduct of the IPL cricket matches in the capital and to prevent any security incidents, Delhi Police are now utilising face recognition system (FRS) to detect potential troublemakers. The cops have deployed two buses equipped with FRS at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. This initiative is particularly important in the backdrop of a threat email received by the Delhi and District Cricket Association about the stadium being bombed. The heightened security measures are also a response to the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, which have raised concerns about potential security risks. According to police, the two FRS-equipped buses have been strategically stationed at two main entry points to the stadium. One is sited on Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and the other on Jawaharlal Nehru Marg. These locations are important, being the busiest routes leading to the stadium. The placement of the buses ensures that security is tightly managed at these key access points. Each bus is fitted with two cameras that are connected to the FRS technology which facilitates the scanning and identification of individuals based on facial recognition. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed! IC Markets Start Now Undo Inside the buses, four police personnel are stationed, two to continuously monitor the FRS system and raise alerts if suspects are detected and the other two to interrogate individuals flagged by the system, particularly those with criminal backgrounds. This dual approach enhances the likelihood of identifying and apprehending potential threats before they enter the stadium, a police officer said. The FRS system uses a comprehensive database that includes dossiers of known criminals in the National Crime Records Bureau as well as in the police database. This allows for swift identification and verification of individuals passing through the entry points. To further ensure the effectiveness of the system, the cops periodically send dummy officers to test the real-time functionality of the FRS buses. M. Harsha Vardhan, DCP (Central), formed several teams under Rajeev Kumar Vats, the station house officer of Indraprastha police station, to oversee the security arrangements. In addition to using FRS, plainclothes officers have been posted outside the stadium to check sale of tickets in the black. Posing as fans at the stadium, they apprehend unscrupulous elements out to make illegal money. On April 28, with an IPL match scheduled the next day, a 35-year-old man from Jharkhand was arrested for scalping and 10 tickets were recovered from his possession. A day earlier, on match day between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, two men were caught with seven tickets. Police also dismantled betting rackets and arrested six individuals in two separate cases, recovering over Rs 20 lakh in the process.

Delhi Cricket Body Receives Bomb Threat Claiming Revenge For Operation Sindoor

The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Friday received a threat email claiming to blast the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi in retaliation for the ongoing Operation Sindoor carried out by the Indian armed forces against Pakistan. The Arun Jaitley Stadium received a bomb threat via email on Friday morning, and a police complaint has been registered, a top DDCA official told IANS. 'There will be a bomb blast in your stadium. We have a committed Pakistan sleeper cell active in India. The blast will be our revenge of Operation Sindoor," reads the mail. The venue played host to Delhi Capitals' home matches in the IPL 2025 before it was suspended for one week by the BCCI on Friday. Arun Jaitley Stadium was scheduled to host its last match of the season against Gujarat Titans on May 11 but it has now been suspended following the BCCI's decision. On Thursday, Pakistan launched aerial attacks on Jammu as well as several military stations near the western border, but those were successfully foiled by India's air defence systems. Pakistan attempted strikes, involving drones and missiles, triggered blackouts and sirens across several areas in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Authorities urged residents to remain indoors and vigilant as emergency protocols were activated. The attacks seem to be in retaliation for Operation Sindoor by Indian armed forces on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, from where the attack on tourists in Pahalgam was planned. Terrorists killed 26 tourists -- 25 Indians and one Nepali citizen near Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, the Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir and pacer Mohammed Shami had received death threats via email after the horrific terrorist attack. Listen to the latest songs, only on
