Four persons held with 1.25 kg of MDMA

The Thiruvananthapuram Rural police apprehended four persons with alleged possession of nearly 1.25 kg of MDMA near Attingal on Thursday. The accused persons were identified as Sanju, alias Don, 42, Nandu, 32, Unnikannan, 39, and Praveen, 35. Besides the synthetic drug, the haul included 17 litres of foreign liquor, all purportedly smuggled in from Oman. Acting on a tip-off, the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force trailed the gang from the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport where Sanju arrived along with his family and Nandu. They left the airport in a car, while a pickup van carrying their luggage, driven by the other accused, trailed behind. The police intercepted the suspects near Kallambalam. Although a search of the car yielded nothing, a thorough inspection of the pickup van revealed the MDMA concealed inside buckets containing dates. The liquor was also seized. Sanju, who is suspected to be the mastermind, is a repeat offender with previous cases related to drug trafficking. He allegedly used other people's names and identities to import narcotics substances.
