The A686 near Hartside Pass is closed following a vehicle collision
A ROAD has been closed by police following a collision. The Hartside Pass, A686, is currently closed, according to Eden Police. The A686, Gamblesby, is closed in both directions following an accident at the Renwick Turnoff. However, reports state traffic is coping well. Eden Police issued an update: "The A686, Hartside Pass is currently closed due to a collision, and may remain shut for some time. Motorists are asked to please avoid the area."

Police issue warning after crashes on dangerous Cumbrian road
EDEN Police are urging the public to take care following incidents on a dangerous Cumbrian Road. The police are reminding people of the dangers on the A686 at Hartside Pass. They are issuing this statement following recent weekend road traffic collision casualties. In a Facebook post, the Eden Police said: "If you are enjoying A686 Hartside Pass today be prepared for whatever may be around the next hairpin. "Sadly we have had recent weekend RTC casualties - please do not become another statistic - Arrive home safe after your grand day out."

Street blocked in Cumbrian town after 'debris falling from building' blocking road
A TOWN centre street in Penrith has been left blocked after reports of 'debris falling from a building' in the area. Police received the report that debris was falling from a building on Devonshire Street in the town at 8:08am today, June 26 and have asked drivers to avoid the route where possible- due to the road currently being blocked by the incident. In a statement on social media, Eden police said: "Devonshire Street, Penrith is currently blocked after a report of falling debris from a building in the area. "Motorists are asked to avoid the route where possible. "Cars are able to to turn down Burrowgate, however no vehicles from Middlegate onto Devonshire Street, past Toymaster. Pedestrians can walk through Little Dockray."

Man arrested after police found two lock knives in his car
A man has been arrested by Eden Police for possession of a knife in a public place. Eden Police found two lock knives upon stopping and searching a vehicle and its occupant. This was found as part of Operation Sceptre which looked to reduce knife crime with a week of action. A spokesperson for Eden Police said: "Someone in possession of a knife is not only increasing the risk of harm to themselves, but could also face a fine of £5,000 and a four-year prison sentence." £16,000 worth of counterfeit tobacco products seized from shop
POLICE have seized around £16,000 worth of counterfeit goods from a shop in Kirkby Stephen. Eden Police, along with the council's trading standards officers, attended the European Mini Market following reports the store was selling illicit tobacco products. They seized 404 packs of cigarettes, 235 50g packs of hand-rolling tobacco, and 158 vapes. A spokesperson from Eden Police said: "All of which were illicit or counterfeit in some way, the approximate value of the goods seized was £16,000. "Thank you to the members of the public who contributed to the seizure. "Any information or intelligence about on going crime in Cumbria is always welcome this can be reported directly to Cumbria Police or Crimestoppers."
