Teddi Mellencamp reveals what saved her from home intruders in terrifying ordeal amid stage four cancer battle

Teddi Mellencamp revealed that her state-of-the-art security system was able to repel the burglars who targeted her mansion amid her stage four cancer battle. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 44, was first diagnosed with melanoma in 2022 and revealed in April that the cancer had advanced to stage four, having metastasized to her lungs and brain—a progression her doctors initially failed to detect. Following the discovery of tumors in her brain and lungs, she began a series of intensive treatments, including surgery, radiation, and immunotherapy. Amid her ongoing health battle, Mellencamp is also navigating personal upheaval, including a recent breakup and her divorce from estranged husband Edwin Arroyave, with whom she shares three children. On Monday, two individuals attempted to enter the Encino, CA property she shares with Arroyave, according to TMZ. The following day she issued a statement on her Insta Stories, confirming that no one was hurt in the attempted burglary and divulging how the robbers were stopped. 'We are grateful that everyone is unharmed. While we are shaken, we are fortunate to have the latest in home security systems which scared off the intruders,' she wrote. 'Authorities were alerted and swiftly responded. We appreciate everyone's heightened concern in light of recent criminal activities in our area, but we are safe.' Law enforcement sources tell TMZ that police responded to a burglary call and rushed to the scene. By the time officers arrived, the suspects had already fled. Authorities believe the individuals had just burglarized a neighboring home before attempting to break into Teddi's property. In August 2020, Teddi bought the impressive 8,550-square-foot estate for $6.5 million. Listed through Mauricio Umansky's The Agency, the home features seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a home theater, a basketball court, and numerous luxury amenities. This residence sits farther from Beverly Hills compared to her previous Hollywood Hills property, which she purchased in 2018 for $4.07 million. The attempted burglary follows Teddi's revelation in a conversation with former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills co-star Kyle Richards about why she never requested the scans that might have allowed doctors to detect the cancer's spread sooner. 'When you go to a doctor, you just assume that's it. I'm doing what I'm supposed to do,' she confessed in an interview with Kyle for Glamour. 'At first, I didn't even really do the research on melanoma because I didn't want to know all of the bad things. But there's a difference between self-diagnosing yourself and being an advocate for your own health,' she argued. 'I never really thought about it because I was like, I go to a doctor every three months. Why wouldn't they get me checked?' Teddi recalled. Her advice for others is 'that you've got to plan ahead of time. You don't need to wait until you're sick to do things like life insurance. Have those hard conversations with your family, because you never know when it's going to come.' She urged fans further to 'trust your gut instinct. There was a long time that I wasn't feeling well and didn't go to the doctor. I thought I had migraines, I thought I was going through menopause. I had self-diagnosed myself with 500 things.' Her recent post follows news that Teddi ended her relationship with boyfriend Ricci Rea, recognizing that her current health challenges leave her without the energy to maintain a romantic relationship. Last month, exclusively spotted her sharing a close moment with a new boyfriend, which she later confirmed publicly. Meanwhile, her estranged husband Edwin has remained a source of support during her health battle, though the couple has made it clear that their divorce proceedings are ongoing.

Former 'Real Housewives' star Teddi Mellencamp's Encino home targeted in attempted burglary

Burglars attempted to break into the Encino home of former "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Teddi Mellencamp on Monday night, just one week after "American Idol" producer Robin Kaye and her husband were shot and killed by an intruder in their Encino home. Edwin Arroyave, Mellencamp's husband, spoke about the 10:15 p.m. attempted burglary and credited the home's alarm system and security cameras for keeping his family safe, as a jimmied-open side door triggered the alarm. He said the couple was home with their four children when three men jumped their front gate. "Well, by the time we came down, they had already run out, but I just saw obviously the doors open at the house," he said. "I think they probably thought that no one was home, so I think once they realized people were home too, they left right away." The Los Angeles Police Department said by the time officers arrived at the Hayvenhurst Avenue property, the suspects had fled and nothing was taken, and nobody was hurt. Just last week, an Encino home invasion turned deadly when "American Idol" producer Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca, were shot and killed in their home. Raymond Boodarian, 22, was arrested the following day and has been charged with two counts of murder for their deaths. Prosecutors allege that he shot the couple with a gun he found in their safe as they returned home from the grocery store. Just fifteen minutes before the Mellencamp attempted break-in Monday night, another home invasion was reported, two miles away. Police said nobody was home at the time when multiple suspects made entry to the home in the 4900 block of Enfield Avenue. The suspects had already fled when police arrived, and it is not known if anything was taken. Police are still investigating if these two incidents are connected. At nearly the same time Monday night, a community meeting was underway where Encino residents, law enforcement members, and county leaders gathered to address a troubling spike in crime in the area, highlighted by last week's deadly double-shooting. Hundreds were in attendance, including Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman, who urged residents to demand better safety in the community. Police said that violent crimes in the area are down year over year and that they welcome new ways to address community safety and expand services. They said that they have requested additional patrols, flyovers with department aircraft, and even mounted patrols.

Teddi Mellencamp speaks out after attempted burglary at her LA home

An attempted burglary reported Monday night in Los Angeles took place at the home of former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Teddi Mellencamp. Mellencamp and her family were home at the time of the attempted break-in, she told ABC News Tuesday. "We are grateful that everyone is unharmed. While we are shaken, we are fortunate to have the latest in home security systems which scared off the intruders," Mellencamp and her estranged husband Edwin Arroyave said in a statement to ABC News. "Authorities were alerted and swiftly responded. We appreciate everyone's heightened concern in light of recent criminal activities in our area, but we are safe." Mellencamp shares three children and a stepchild with Arroyave, from whom she announced her separation in November. The Los Angeles Police Department said Tuesday that a call came in around 10:15 p.m. local time Monday for a burglary with residents inside. When police officers arrived at the home, the suspected burglars had left the home without obtaining full access The suspects gained entry to the property possibly through the garage but did not get far before they ran off, according to the LAPD. The suspects got away in a black BMW. The LAPD says it is looking for two males in black hooded sweatshirts. Mellencamp, now a podcast host and the founder of an accountability program, is the daughter of music legend John Cougar Mellencamp. The mom of four announced earlier this year that she was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma, a type of skin cancer, which she said had spread to her brain and lungs. Teddi Mellencamp says she has 'multiple tumors': 'I will win this battle' Mellencamp has said she is currently undergoing both radiation and immunotherapy treatment. The attempted burglary at Mellencamp's home Monday happened just 11 minutes after there was a similar call at another home, according to police. The suspects were also gone from that address when officers arrived. It does not appear anyone was home at that address, and it is unclear if anything was taken at that home. Just one week ago, on July 14, a couple -- "American Idol" music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband Thomas Deluca -- were found shot to death in their Los Angeles home during a welfare check. Teddi Mellencamp opens up about Stage 4 melanoma diagnosis, how her kids are coping A 22-year-old suspect -- Raymond Boodarian -- is accused of scaling a fence onto the couple's Encino property and allegedly shooting and killing them during a struggle when they arrived home from the grocery store, authorities said. Boodarian has been charged with two counts of murder and a count of residential burglary, with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders and murder during the commission of a burglary, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office. The district attorney, Nathan Hochman, held a town hall meeting with residents Monday -- the same night as the attempted burglary at Mellencamp's home -- to talk about the case.
