Sword-wielding group attacks man, his friends in Mohali's Sector 70
A birthday celebration ended in bloodshed after a group attacked a man and his friends with swords in full public view near Jubilee Walk, Sector 70, late at night, police said on Monday. The accused have been identified Manpreet Singh, a resident of Ferozepur and currently living in Kharar; Manik of Kangra, Himachal Pradesh; Vishal, and a woman named Lovely. Manpreet and Manik have been arrested, and raids are underway for the other absconding accused, according to police. The complainant, Gurpreet, a resident of Sector 66, told police that he and his friends were celebrating his brother's birthday past midnight on Friday. After buying balloons from a vendor at the Phase 3B2 market, they were heading home, when a Ford Endeavour pulled up and one of the passengers allegedly hurled objectionable remarks at them. When confronted, the group inside the car, including two women, initially backed off and apologised, possibly due to the presence of bystanders. However, later, around 1.40 am, while Gurpreet and his friends were having dinner at Jubilee Walk, the same group returned with one more car, this time with more people. Armed with sharp-edged weapons, including swords, the group launched a violent attack on Gurpreet and his friends, causing head injuries. The victims were admitted to the civil hospital in Phase 6. Gurpreet filed a police complaint after getting discharged from the hospital. Investigating officer Keuual Kumar said, 'We have arrested two accused and their absconding accomplices will also be nabbed soon.' Police have booked the assailants under Sections 126(2), 115(2), 109, 191(3) and 190 of the BNS.

Ludhiana: Gunshots fired at realtor's SUV, probe initiated
Panic spread in a village near Ladhowal after unidentified bike-borne assailants opened fire outside the house of a property dealer. The assailants fired twice, and both bullets struck the trunk of a Ford Endeavour SUV parked inside the premises. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The incident came to light only after the property dealer, Bhagwant Singh, reported it to the police on Saturday, two days after the incident, raising questions about the delay. The Ladhowal police, currently investigating the case, have described the situation as suspicious and are examining it from all possible angles. According to Bhagwant Singh's statement, the incident occurred around 12.35 am on May 29. He claimed that he was alerted by a neighbour who heard gunshots in the village. Upon checking from the rooftop, Bhagwant Singh said he didn't see anyone and went back inside. It was only the next morning that he noticed bullet marks on his car and informed the police. Inspector Gurshinder Kaur, SHO at Ladhowal police station, along with a police team, reached the site and began an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby houses is being reviewed. According to preliminary findings, the same two men on a motorcycle fired the first shot at the property dealer's gate and returned four minutes later to fire a second round before fleeing. The police have also started examining the call details of the property dealer and have involved a forensic team to inspect the bullet trajectory and impact on the vehicle. 'While no threat has been reported by the complainant, we are not ruling out any possibility. The timing of the complaint makes the case unusual,' said SHO Gurshinder Kaur. The SHO added that an FIR under sections 125 of BNS, sections 25, 54 and 59 of Arms act has been lodged against unidentified accused.

Ludhiana: Father-son duo nabbed for carjacking, aides on the run, say police
The Ludhiana rural police have arrested two Nihangs—a father-son duo—on charges of carjacking an SUV and attempting to extort ₹6 lakh from a dera head by threatening to leak his private videos and pictures. Two of their accomplices are currently absconding. The arrested individuals have been identified as Baghel Singh alias Raja, resident of Gurdwara Takkarsar Sahib in Daddhur, and his father Kulwant Singh Sodhi. Their aides, Judge Singh from Patiala and Golu from Moga, are on the run. All four accused are Nihangs, police said. According to Ludhiana rural senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ankur Gupta, the case came to light following a complaint filed by Harmanjot Singh alias Harman of Kangardeen village in Bathinda on May 19. Harman, who was driving a Ford Endeavour belonging to dera head Baba Jaideep Singh, said he was on his way to hand over the vehicle to a friend, Angrej Singh, in Galib Kalan village. At Hari Singh Nalwa Chowk in Raikot, a Bolero Camper intercepted him. The accused alighted from the Bolero Camper, threatened him with sharp-edged weapons and fled with the SUV toward Malerkotla. The SSP said that the police swung into action and arrested Baghel Singh and Kulwant Singh. The stolen SUV was recovered from their possession. 'Investigations revealed that Baghel Singh had earlier stolen Baba Jaideep Singh's mobile phone. In an attempt to recover his SIM card, the dera head had paid ₹60,000 to Kulwant Singh. However, the handset remained with the accused. Upon discovering private videos and pictures on the device, the group began demanding ₹6 lakh from Baba Jaideep Singh, threatening to release the content publicly if their demands were not met. As Baba Jaideep Singh resisted their demands, the accused resorted to carjacking his SUV to pressure him into paying,' the SSP added. An FIR under Sections 126(2) (wrongful restrain), 304(2) (snatching), 308(2) (in order to the committing of extortion, puts or attempts to put any person in fear of death or of grievous hurt), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), 3(5) (criminal act is done by several persons in furtherance of the common intention of all), 317(2) (dishonestly receives or retains any stolen property), and 111 (organised crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been lodged against the accused at City Raikot police station. A hunt is on to nab the remaining accused, the SSP said.
