Gauahar Khan Opens Up About Dealing With Miscarriage: ‘No One Had Expected…'

Last Updated: Gauahar Khan opens up about her miscarriage during her first pregnancy, revealing the emotional toll it took on her mental health. Gauahar Khan is currently awaiting the birth of her second child with husband Zaid Darbar. Gauahar, who is a mother to a two-year-old son, Zehaan, recently opened up about going through a difficult phase after experiencing a miscarriage during her first pregnancy and revealed that it took a toll on her. During a conversation with Debina Bonnerjee, the actress shared that since she got married at the age of 36, the couple decided to start a family within a year. However, she faced a miscarriage during her first pregnancy and revealed, 'At that point, you assume that everything is going to be fine, and no one had expected me to lose my child. It was extremely difficult, and it took me some time to get over it. So by the time I gave birth to Zehaan, I was already 39, and if I wanted another child, it was now or never." Gauahar revealed that she didn't take a break from work during her pregnancy. She shared that she was shooting Shiksha Mandal when she was pregnant with her first child and did all the action scenes, only to lose her baby just a month later. In April this year, Gauahar Khan and husband Zaid Darbar announced their second pregnancy. The couple shared the news with an adorable Instagram reel, and love soon poured in from their industry peers. Earlier, while speaking to News18 Showsha, she revealed that though she has been through this experience once before, the second pregnancy has brought with it a fresh set of challenges. 'I can't say that I'm more chill this time around. My second pregnancy is more difficult. Each pregnancy is very different, and what you feel each time is different. There are too many myths surrounding pregnancy, but the whole experience is very personal, and it differs from one woman to another. You can't say that yeh hi hota hai toh yeh hi hoga," she told us. While emotional pangs are part and parcel of every pregnancy, Gauahar drew attention to how her second pregnancy is also physically more laborious. 'This time, I think there's a little more effort, unlike the first time when I was doing things a little more effortlessly," she added. For the unversed, Gauahar and Zaid tied the knot in December 2020. And now people want to do Bigg Boss to make a career.' Discussing how the show has changed over the years, Gauahar said, 'At least the times that I have done Bigg Boss, has over the years changed a lot. A lot. In terms of just the basics of Bigg Boss. And I think for any show, that's a natural thing. You can't do the same every year. They have to evolve and keep changing.' She also spoke about how the fear factor associated with Bigg Boss has changed. 'Now there is no fear of Bigg Boss. Now whatever you want, break, whatever you want, turn… No one is afraid of the mic. We were afraid. Same thing. We used to be scared of Bigg Boss. Bigg Boss punishes… There was a certain value for rules at that time.' Gauahar Khan opens up about miscarriage, says she didn't stop working during second pregnancy: ‘Can't be unprofessional'

The debate around new parents getting time off from work to focus on their children has been making headlines after Deepika Padukone's exit from Spirit, reportedly because her requests weren't agreed to. Actor Gauahar Khan recently talked about the challenges she faced while trying to tackle the difficulties that come with becoming a mother at the age of 39. Gauahar, who is expecting her second child, revealed that this is actually her third time getting pregnant, as she lost her first child to a miscarriage. She told Debinna Bonnerjee on her podcast that she feels lucky to be able to conceive at this age, as she always wished to have multiple children. However, losing her first child took a big toll on her. 'I think this was the right time for something like this, and I was 36 when I got married. We knew we had to start trying for a child within a year. I had a miscarriage before, and it took me at least 1 to 1.5 years to recover from that and to be able to tell myself that 'okay, let's try.' When I conceived my son Zehaan, everything went smoothly.' She went on to explain the story behind her first pregnancy and added, 'At that point you assume that everything is going to be fine, and no one had expected me to lose my child. It was extremely difficult, and it took me some time to get over it, so by the time I gave birth to Zehaan, I was already 39, and if I wanted another child, it was now or never.' ALSO READ: Gauahar Khan criticises Suniel Shetty's C-section remark, reveals she suffered a miscarriage: 'For a male celebrity who didn't go through pregnancy…' When asked about how she handled her work while trying to cope with everything personally, Gauahar admitted that she never stopped working. She said, 'I was working throughout my first pregnancy, and during the first three months of both these pregnancies, I was shooting for an action role. This time around I was blasting bombs while shooting the finale of Fauji 2 in Pune. If I am in the middle of a shoot, I can't be unprofessional in my duties as an actor. The action directors are very accommodating, and they shoot the scenes accordingly.' The Fauji 2 shared that she hardly ever took a break from working, and she was actually shooting for another action role a month before her miscarriage. 'Actually, while I was shooting Shiksha Mandal, I was pregnant with my first child, and I was still shooting all the action scenes, including horse riding. Just a month after that I lost my child, but it's a very strange thing that every time I am pregnant, I end up doing action roles and shooting difficult scenes,' added Gauahar.
