Can you hail a Grab EV outside KLIA? It's luck of the draw, but here's how
KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 — As the Grab EV service is only meant for KLIA Terminal 1 rides at the moment, we were originally under the impression that the Grab EV drivers have to come back to KLIA empty-handed once they have their passengers to the destination. As it turns out, that is not the case, as Grab EV drivers can pick up KLIA-bound customers when they head back to the airport. 'So, we don't want them to come back empty,' said Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations and Mobility of Grab Malaysia. Rashid pointed out that customers who booked the Standard 6-seater service might be able to obtain Grab EV's BYD M6 electric MPV, as long as their destination is KLIA. However, the M6 will be assigned randomly to customers just like any other 7-seater vehicle in the service. This is unlike in KLIA Terminal 1, whereby you can specifically choose between the Grab EV or the usual Standard 6-seater service. Aside from getting the BYD M6 as their ride, Grab EV customers also get to enjoy several perks, including having their pick-up point at Level 3, which is the same floor as the airport's arrival hall. For the Standard 6-seater customers, the pick-up point is located at Level 1 instead. In addition to that, there is also a dedicated waiting area in the form of the Grab EV Lounge near the pick-up point. That being said, the Grab EV service does cost slightly more than the Standard 6-seater option, although the fare differences depend on the destination. As a comparison, the Grab EV service costs RM28 more than its Standard 6-seater counterpart when we set our Bukit Bintang office as the destination. However, when we set Ayer@8 in Presint 8 of Putrajaya as the destination which is much closer to KLIA, the difference was only RM5. — SoyaCincau

Grab rolls out first EV fleet of seven-seater BYD M6 MPVs for KLIA transport services
Photo: Facebook/KL International Airport SEPANG: Grab Malaysia has launched its first fleet of fully electric seven-seater BYD M6 vehicles for airport transport services at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The move is part of the company's long-term strategy to reduce emissions, said Rashid Shukor, Grab Malaysia's country operations and mobility director. During the official launch of the Grab EV service on Tuesday (June 24), Mr Shukor noted that by offering travellers a new EV transport option directly from KLIA, Grab hoped to increase public awareness and encourage wider interest in EV use across the country. According to Malay Mail , Mr Shukor said KLIA was chosen for the launch because it is the country's key transportation hub. The airport, he noted, is 'the perfect platform' to show that EVs are not only viable but also comfortable and future-ready. The new fully electric multipurpose vehicle (MPV) has a foldable third row, which creates more space for travellers' luggage. Along with the EV launch, Grab has opened a dedicated EV lounge at the terminal, providing travellers a place to wait for their rides in comfort. Grab's EV initiative to improve quality of transportation system

SEPANG: The introduction of electric vehicle (EV) services specifically for e-hailing by Grab Malaysia is expected to improve the quality of the transportation system at the country's main entry points, thus supporting the sustainable mobility agenda in line with national aspirations. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the ministry (MOT) fully supports Grab Malaysia's initiative and is committed to expediting the country's transition to a cleaner, more efficient and environmentally friendly transportation system. Grab Malaysia today also launched its 'EV-only ride' services as a booking option in the Grab application, and also set up an EV Lounge at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), as an added convenience for users of its premium EV services. 'The selection of KLIA as the launch location is very strategic, not only because of the high passenger traffic but also because it provides maximum exposure to domestic and international users regarding Malaysia's efforts to enhance green mobility,' he said. Speaking at the Grab EV launch here today, Loke said that public-private collaboration is the key to successfully accelerating the use of EVs nationwide. According to him, the launch of Grab Malaysia's new initiative is a catalyst to expanding EVs nationwide, not just in the Klang Valley, but also in other major cities such as Johor Bahru, Penang, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. Advertisement 'The latest MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) between Grab and several strategic partners, including EV providers and charging companies recently, reflects the conformity of the industry with the country's aspirations. Through the National Transport Policy 2019-2030 and the Ministry of Transport Strategic Plan 2021-2025, Loke said electric vehicles have been identified as one of the main pillars to reducing carbon emissions and encouraging the use of green technology. Efforts being taken or will be implemented by the government include tax exemptions an incentives for EV purchases, installation of EV chargers and the use of renewable energy in the transport sector. Other efforts include the implementation of low carbon zones in urban areas and the provision of more widespread EV charging infrastructure, including on highways, shopping malls and airports. Meanwhile, Grab Malaysia director of country operations and mobility Rashid Shukor said the new initiative supports Malaysia's green mobility push with the introduction of an EV-only ride option for airport tourists. 'By prioritising routes with high visibility and demand like KLIA, we intend to demonstrate the practicality and comfort of EVs, while increasing awareness among users. 'This launch marks an important achievement is transforming the foundation of on-demand public transport towards low- or zero-emission modes, making sustainable mobility more accessible to both our driver-partners and passengers,' he said. Grab EV will use BYD M6 electric vehicles, a seven-seater electric multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that offers passengers a quieter and smoother travel experience.
