Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans, including GRS members, have been urged to be vigilant and wary against opposition dirty tactics of deliberately fabricating issues to mislead the public in the lead-up to the 17th State Election (PRN17). CM-cum-Gagasan Rakyat President Datuk Seri Hajiji said these challenges do not stem from a strong opposition or from our own weakness, but rather from the lies, falsehoods, fabricated stories and above all, slander that they must confront. 'PRN17 brings with it a thousand and one challenges, not because the opposition is strong or GRS is weak, but because we are facing a barrage of lies, fabrications, false stories, and above all, slander. 'Nowadays, social media has become the most popular platform for spreading propaganda and misinformation, which the opposition is using to gain political mileage. 'Every day, they concoct false stories, viral misleading videos and fabricated infographics that are widely circulated, pushed by opposition to tarnish the GRS and manipulate public opinion for their political gain. This is how the opposition launches its attacks against us in the digital realm —and we must fight back with everything we've got!' he said. 'Not all the issues being sensationalised are true or credible! Many are concocted and manufactured with the sole intent of deceiving the public into believing them. Such tactics can lead to endless political unrest. 'Spreading slander and falsehood is the hallmark of dirty politics and we strongly condemn it. Let us not fall into the trap of such unscrupulous tactics. 'Not only are they morally and legally wrong, but any party that wins through dirty politics, slander and lies will not stand the test of time because eventually, the truth will be known,' he said. Hajiji who is also GRS Chairman said this to send a strong and direct response to the many allegations and accusations hurled at GRS and its leaders with PRN17 just around the corner. Despite ongoing criticism and attacks aimed at discrediting the government's efforts, Hajiji said GRS' track record of success cannot be denied. 'I know there are those who are jealous of our success. They want to see us fall apart, humiliated, and defeated. That is why they continue to make baseless accusations to deceive the people. They will never stop. They will relentlessly attack and belittle our hard work,' he said. 'Take good care of GRS. This is our home and it's up to us to protect it, because this is where our struggle is anchored,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Outgoing Indonesian Consul in Tawau thankful for good support between Indonesia, Sabah

Musa (right) speaking with Aris. KOTA KINABALU: The close working rapport between Sabah and Indonesia has made a positive impact in various bilateral exchanges, affirms the outgoing Consul of the Republic of Indonesia (KRI) in Tawau. Aris Heru Utomo, who began his duties here in Sabah on May 16, 2024, said that the good relationship between the state and Indonesia had strengthened ties too. He said the areas of interest which had been moving in positive directions included social, cultural, tourism and border security aspects. He said social and cultural relations between Indonesians and Sabahans, especially in Tawau, were cordial, contributing to the increase in tourism arrivals. 'I thank the support and assistance rendered in strengthening ties between both nations, including the state government's initiative to protect Indonesians working here in Sabah,' Aris said. He said this after paying a courtesy visit to Sabah's Head of State, Tun Musa Aman, during which Aris informed Musa of the end of his tenure. He will be relocated back to his home country soon.

After GRS-PH pact, Bung says Sabah Umno ready to go solo

Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin said the state chapter will not work with dishonest and insincere coalitions. PETALING JAYA : Sabah Umno says it's ready to go solo in the upcoming state election after Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) announced an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan. Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin mocked the GRS-PH cooperation as a 'panic pact' and said the state chapter will not work with dishonest and insincere coalitions. 'An electoral pact must be built on sincerity and integrity, not just seat-sharing and candidate selection,' he said, according to The Borneo Post. He reportedly said the GRS-PH pact was a last-minute alliance forged simply to prevent seat clashes, describing it as a 'beautifully disguised panic pact'. 'Sabah Barisan Nasional will not be part of any arrangement lacking genuine unity,' said Bung, the Sabah BN chief. In May, the unity government's secretariat announced that BN and PH would work together in the 17th Sabah state election, which is due by the end of the year. While Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim hoped that all three coalitions would work together for the polls, Bung said Sabah BN would only consider cooperation with GRS after the outcome of the state election. GRS chairman Hajiji Noor then announced last month that the Sabah coalition and PH had agreed to form an alliance for the polls. This was confirmed by Sabah PKR chief Mustapha Sakmud. BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi later reiterated that the coalition's pact with PH was 'locked in', indicating that BN and GRS were likely to clash in the upcoming state election. On Sunday, Zahid urged Sabah Umno not to completely shut the door on potential allies, saying 'there may be friends among enemies'.

Preserve national unity and peace for independence, urges Ewon

PENAMPANG: Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick has called on Malaysians, particularly in Sabah, to uphold the true meaning of independence by preserving unity, well-being, and peace. He emphasised that harmony and stability are crucial for sustainable national development and sovereignty. 'This all starts with cooperation, unity, and harmony because if the people are at odds with one another, unable to cooperate or be in harmony, how can national sovereignty be defended?' Ewon said after launching the Sabah Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang 2025 convoy. The event, organised by the Sabah Information Department, involves 20 vehicles and 60 participants covering 2,500 kilometres across 75 locations in 20 days. The convoy began in Penampang and will conclude in Tuaran on Aug 23. Ewon encouraged Sabahans to join the 'One House, One Jalur Gemilang' initiative by displaying the national flag at their homes. He also highlighted the relevance of this year's National Day theme, 'Malaysia MADANI, Rakyat Disantuni,' aligning it with the 13th Malaysia Plan's goals of uplifting the people's dignity. 'I hope this theme reaches the grassroots. I am confident that the people understand what the government is doing, which is not only to care for them but also to champion and uplift their dignity,' he said. - Bernama
