Awareness campaign launched against drug abuse
Hyderabad: In a powerful and emotional show of solidarity on the International Day Against Drug Abuse, Tempest Advertising launched an awareness initiative titled 'Silent No More'. The initiative was aimed at encouraging individuals battling drug addiction to speak up, seek help, and take the first step toward recovery. Standing by the company's theme for the year – 'Go Mad for Good', employees from Tempest Advertising took to the streets of Hyderabad, Pune, Bangalore and Mumbai holding placards and banners with the campaign's message, urging individuals to acknowledge the issue, talk it out, and choose a better path. Messages such as 'Every Scar Has a Story' and 'You Don't Need Dope to Be Happy' echoed through the visuals, offering both hope and solidarity.

Prakasam police use drones to spread anti-drug message
Ongole: Prakasam district police, in an innovative move, used drones to fly banners with slogans such as "Say No to Drugs" and "Drugs Vaddu Bro" to spread anti-drug message. The drones were operated at all major junctions in the town, and the banners attracted the attention of hundreds of people. Prakasam district superintendent of police A R Damodar has taken the issue of narcotics seriously since the day he assumed charge about a year ago. He has visited several engineering and private colleges to raise awareness. He directed field officers to closely monitor the movements of suspects and take immediate action. He also instructed officials to organise meetings with parents and asked them to keep a close watch on their children to prevent them from falling prey to drug abuse. Addressing a meeting held to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse on Thursday, SP Damodar stated that youth, attracted by novelty, often experiment with drugs. This can lead to addiction, imprisonment, loss of job opportunities, and a ruined life. He warned that individuals caught in drug-related cases would have their names recorded in police records, which could impact their ability to get jobs, passports, or visas, and could lead to a loss of societal respect. He urged students and youth to stay away from drugs, make smart choices, and never start using them. The SP added that student, teacher, and parent committees would be established in schools and colleges to conduct large-scale awareness programs on the harmful effects of drug use. He noted that addicts are being admitted to de-addiction centers, while drug suppliers are being identified, with cases registered and action taken. District collector A Tameem Ansaria emphasised the need for collective efforts to make Prakasam district drug-free. She stated that extensive awareness programs are being conducted in colleges and schools to curb drug influence among the youth. Highlighting the success of the Navodaya 2.0 programme launched in Feb, she noted that within four months, the district had been declared free of illicit liquor. She affirmed that the government is taking all necessary measures to control and eliminate drug-related issues and called on all sections of society and voluntary organisations to join hands in this advised students to stay away from drugs and build a bright and successful future. MLAs Janardhan, B. N. Vijay Kumar, and other senior officials were present at the event.

Coimbatore City Police, Young Indians conduct awareness programme on drugs
Coimbatore City Police and Young Indians (CII) joined hands to mark International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26 with an event at Thomas Park, Race Course. A. Saravana Sundar IPS, City Police Commissioner, took part. More than 200 students from various colleges across the city came together to stand united against substance abuse and spread the message of drug-free life. Caroline Rajan, Co-Chair, Yi Health, said 'Namakku Vendam' was one of the earnest efforts to prevent society from the harms of drugs. Saumya Gayathri, Chair, Yi-Yuva, said Yi in collaboration with Yuva - a college students' network, conducted 13 events, reaching out to nearly 8,000 students. Neil Kikani, Chair- Yi Coimbatore, spoke about the importance of safeguarding our neighbourhood, friends and the city from drug abuse. Mr. Saravana Sundar that drug abuse could hinder the productivity of youth, the strength of labour and the growth of our nation. The Commissioner administered an International Day Against Drug Abuse pledge to the participants. Students from Dr. NGP Arts and Science College, KPR College of Arts, Science and Research, Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science performed on the theme 'Namaku Vendam – Say No to Drugs'.

During the celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and the Gulf Anti-Drug Week, Albudaiwi addressed attendees, including representatives from the Ministries of Interior and relevant officials from GCC member states. He remarked, 'This occasion embodies the commitment of the GCC member states to continue collective and joint Gulf action.' A Unified Strategy for Drug Control Albudaiwi highlighted the Gulf Strategy for Combating Drugs (2025 – 2028) as a comprehensive framework. He explained, 'This strategy is based on key pillars, including reducing the supply and demand for drugs.' The strategy aims to dry up sources of drugs while promoting alternative development and enhancing the Gulf legislative system. He added, 'Combating drugs is a collective responsibility that requires integrated action, sustained effort, and close cooperation.' This approach involves collaboration between governments, societies, and individuals to effectively address drug-related issues. Albudaiwi underscored the vital role of families and society in drug prevention. He stated, 'They constitute the first line of defense against drugs through conscious upbringing, open dialogue, and continuous care.' Schools, media, religious leaders, and civil society institutions also play crucial roles in spreading awareness. He further emphasized, 'The family has a significant and valuable role in providing emotional and social support.' This support creates a stable environment that boosts the self-confidence of recovering individuals and encourages them to rebuild their lives. Supporting Recovery and Reintegration The Secretary General affirmed the importance of integrating recovering addicts into society. He noted, 'The GCC states have been keen to establish hospitals, centres, and institutions dedicated to this matter.' These facilities provide treatment and rehabilitation programs, ensuring active participation in society. Albudaiwi expressed pride in the cooperation with strategic partners across GCC member states, saying, 'We are keen to bolster these partnerships to ensure coordination and integration at the regional and international levels.' Society has a collective responsibility for curbing substance abuse, says SP
Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar on Thursday said it is the collective responsibility of society to curb substance abuse. Mr. Shankar was the chief guest at the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking programme, organised jointly by the Udupi District Police, the Department of Pre-University Education, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, and A.V. Baliga Group of Institutions. MAHE vice-chancellor M.D. Venkatesh spoke about the role educational institutions play in transforming youth into responsible citizens. Principal of Government PU College, Udupi, Leela Bai Bhat, spoke about the importance of community and family support in drug prevention strategies. Director of A.V. Shyamala on Thursday said anti-drug awareness drives should be carried out scientifically to keep pre-university and degree students away from drugs. Speaking at the International Day Against Drug Abuse programme organised by the Udupi District administration at the Christian Pre-University College in Udupi, Ms. Shyamala said drug abuse among students was a major issue in the education sector. Disposed As much as 3.542 kg of narcotic drugs seized by different police stations in Udupi police were disposed of at an authorised unit in Padubidri on Thursday. As part of Drug Abuse prevention day, artistes Ravi and Lokesh did sand sculpture 'Nasha Mukt Udupi' on the Malpe Beach. Nearly 600 students participated in the seminar, essay, and poster-making competitions related to narcotic drug abuse, which were organised at the Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management in Nitte on Thursday.
