3 Takeaways from Jaguars' training camp practice No. 6: Travis Hunter and Josh Hines-Allen
Following the Jaguars' sixth training camp practice, here are three takeaways from what took place. The Jacksonville Jaguars have wrapped up their sixth training camp practice, the second of which was in pads. With help from the media members who were in attendance, here are three key takeaways from what took place on Tuesday. Opportunity for Jarrian Jones During offseason programs, Montaric Brown had spent a lot of time with the first team defense opposite of Tyson Campbell. Unfortunately, Brown will be sidelined for the remainder of training camp with an injury. This has then led to additional opportunities for other cornerbacks on the roster, specifically Jarrian Jones. As ESPN's Michael DiRocco wrote after minicamp, Jones was navigating a learning curve with Anthony Campanile's zone-heavy defensive scheme. However, after Tuesday's practice, Campanile discussed the progress he has seen from Jones. "He's a great competitor," Campanile said of Jones. "He really works hard to play with technique. I think he did a great job in the spring and he's one of the guys that worked really hard in the summer. Was with a lot of the guys on the team, working technique, studying, so he came back into camp really ready to go. "I see a lot of the drill work he's doing every day is showing up now. The muscle memory is starting to set in and he's really playing with good technique and it's starting to show up in all the one-on-one work and the team periods." Josh Hines-Allen has been very disruptive As Jamal St. Cyr of News-4-Jax wrote in his training camp takeaways, Hines-Allen has been a "one-man wrecking crew." St. Cyr added that Hines-Allen has looked "unblockable at times." Compared to this time a year ago. Hines-Allen is back at his more natural playing weight after former defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen had him and other defenders bulk up. This is also a defensive scheme under Campanile that has a very attacking play style up front and one that prioritizes movement as well. Hines-Allen isn't only playing well, he's very confident and has a huge goal for the 2025 season--he wants to break the NFL's single-season sack record, which is currently at 22.5 sacks. "I think all pass rushers should strive for that goal like every team strives to win a Super Bowl," Hines-Allen said via ESPN. "So, I think my goal is to break the record and not really focus on it. Just know that if I handle what I need to handle, stay healthy, know what I'm doing, communicate, anticipate what's happening to me, anticipate pass and kind of be quicker on that, then everything's going to play off the way it's supposed to." Another impressive day for Travis Hunter Two days ago, on Sunday, Hunter put together a really impressive performance at cornerback, which included multiple pass breakups. On Tuesday, now playing wide receiver, he had another strong showing. John Shipley of Jaguars on SI wrote that Hunter had "several impressive grabs" during today's practice. Shipley adds that Hunter had a touchdown during the red zone period and made a tough over-the-middle catch as well. "Really encouraging," Grant Udinski said of Hunter's progress at receiver. "I think even from the end of the spring last year to the start of training camp this year, you notice the progression. Not only from the mental standpoint but from a technique and release standpoint at the receiver position. I only expect with the way that he works and approaches it that progression will continue."

Former NFL head coach spends time as consultant with Jaguars' offensive line
A former NFL head coach has spent time as a consultant with Shaun Sarrett and the Jaguars' offensive line recently. A former NFL head coach has spent time recently as a consultant, working with Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive line coach Shaun Sarrett. According to ESPN's Michael DiRocco, former Tennessee Titans' head coach Mike Munchak worked with Sarrett in a consulting role over five days earlier in the week. DiRocco added that Munchak and Sarrett worked together for five years while with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Munchak was the Titans' head coach from 2011 through 2013. As a player, Munchak made nine Pro Bowls at guard, two first-team All-Pros, and is in the Hall of Fame. Improved offensive line play this season for the Jaguars is a must. It's a message that Liam Coen has delivered since arriving in Jacksonville. In order to accomplish that, GM James Gladstone has reshaped this unit by making six additions between free agency and the NFL draft. This is a much more versatile unit, and the Jaguars are embracing competition this summer as they search for their best starting five configuration. Consistent success for any offense begins with the offensive line providing a run game to lean on and time in the pocket for the quarterback.

Jacksonville Jaguars' CB Jourdan Lewis shares early impressions of Travis Hunter
Jaguars' CB Jourdan Lewis recently shared what he's seen from Travis Hunter this offseason. On a recent appearance on CBS Sports HQ, Jacksonville Jaguars' cornerback Jourdan Lewis shared what it is about Travis Hunter that makes him a special player. "His confidence, Lewis said. "He believes in himself and his abilities, which are really immense. He's a really talented football player, and he can do it on both sides of the football. He's really cerebral; he knows how to sit in zones, he knows how to play zones, read the quarterback's eyes, and things like that. His ball skills are off the charts." Those ball skills that Lewis mentioned were on full display during Hunter's Heisman season at Colorado in 2024. As a cornerback, he was targeted just 41 times, but still managed to come away with four interceptions and seven pass breakups, according to PFF. Up to this point, we haven't seen a lot of Hunter on defense just yet. While he's been in meetings and learning that playbook, the majority of his practice time has come at wide receiver. As GM James Gladstone put it, the team views cornerback as Hunter's more natural position. However, in the near future, we are going to see more of Hunter at cornerback as the Jaguars continue to work towards having him play both sides of the ball during the same practice regularly. As defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile described after Thursday's practice, Liam Coen has put together a very detailed plan for Hunter. "He's a complete football player," Lewis added. "So it's just learning the nuances of the NFL, which he's going to pick up and he's picking up already. I've been really impressed with how poised he's been and how he fits in the scheme of things on the team."

Jaguars drafting Travis Hunter listed among top NFL offseason moves by ESPN
The Jaguars decision to trade up and draft Travis Hunter was listed among the top offseason moves made around the NFL. The Jacksonville Jaguars' trading up and drafting Travis Hunter with the second overall pick was named one of the top offseason moves by ESPN. Matt Bowen recently compiled his list of the 50 best offseason signings, trades, and draft picks. Coming in at No. 12 on his list was the Jaguars' selection of Hunter. "The reigning Heisman Trophy winner has a rare skill set to impact both sides of the ball," wrote Bowen. "Hunter's 15 touchdown catches and 23 receptions of 20 or more yards both tied for second in the nation last season, plus he had nine interceptions over his entire college career." The Jaguars are preparing Hunter to play both ways at the NFL level as well. The majority of his playing time during OTAs and minicamp came on offense, with Liam Coen telling The Athletic recently that wideout is where he "needs the most development." The next step for Hunter in his progression will be playing on both offense and defense consistently within the same practices. For the first six or so training camp practices, according to Coen, we will continue to see Hunter on either offense or defense, but after that point, playing on both sides on the same day will become his new norm. The caveat to all of this, however, is that Jacksonville will remain very fluid with Hunter's schedule, having already made adjustments coming off offseason programs. Whether it be at wide receiver or cornerback, Hunter brings impressive ball skills to this Jaguars' team. On offense specifically, he gives Liam Coen added flexibility when it comes to building out his game plans, not to mention that Hunter's presence can help take some of the attention off Brian Thomas Jr.
