Michigan State Football Must Battle Big Ten Rival Nebraska for Class of 2026 Running Back Target Jamal Rule
Michigan State Football Must Battle Big Ten Rival Nebraska for Class of 2026 Running Back Target Jamal Rule originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Michigan State football team was late to the party in recruiting this three-star running back out of Charlotte, N.C. Now as decision time is nearing, it seems that the Spartans' biggest competition is an in-conference rival. Advertisement The three-star recruit is planning to announce his commitment on Monday, June 3 around 6:30 p.m. EST. Michigan State Spartans running back Le'Veon Albrecht/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Michigan State extended an offer to Jamal Rule on June 9 and scheduled an official visit with the rising senior for June 20. The week before, Rule took his official visit to Nebraska. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Rule is the No. 779 class of 2026 overall recruit, No. 48 running back overall, and No. 33 pick out of North Carolina. While he currently has five schools listed in the running for his commitment — North Carolina State, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, and MSU — signs are pointing to a two-way Big Ten race for the running back. Advertisement On June 22, Rule announced on X that his commitment will be decided a day later. While June has been quite a month for the Spartans, their class of 2026 lacks in the running back department. Tight ends Joey Caudill and Eddie Whiting, and wide receiver Zachary Washington and Tyren Wortham are the only ball handlers committed outside of quarterbacks. Head coach Jonathan Smith successfully recruited Wortham and flipped his decision from UCF to secure two wide receivers, but he now needs to redirect his attention to the vacant position. It speaks volumes that MSU is such a close competitor to land the running back considering how late the offer came, but Nebraska has been applying pressure since extending an offer on Jan. 4. One Big Ten school will more likely than not reel Rule in, but it's uncertain if that will be the Spartans or Cornhuskers. Michigan State Spartans Miss Hopeful Running Back Target Jamal Rule to Big Ten Foe Nebraska and Are Forced Back to the Drawing Board
Michigan State Spartans Miss Hopeful Running Back Target Jamal Rule to Big Ten Foe Nebraska and Are Forced Back to the Drawing Board originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Michigan State football's options for class of 2026 running backs are dwindling down day-by-day, and head coach Jonathan Smith has yet to land one. Advertisement In hopes of a three-star announcing a Spartan commitment on Monday, June 23, Smith's June luck unfortunately ran out. Michigan State football head coach Jonathan Smith watching from the Young-Imagn Images Three-star running back Jamal Rule announced his verbal commitment to Nebraska on Monday evening. He is the No. 779 overall recruit, No 48 running back, and No. 33 student-athlete out of North Carolina, according to 247Sports Composite. The Spartans were late to extend an offer, especially when up against the Cornhuskers who were on top of Rule since Jan. 4. As the time neared for him to make his decision, Nebraska was already favored to land the rising senior with Michigan State taking second place in the race. So where does this leave Smith and his class of 2026? Advertisement As it's unfolding, he'll likely have to navigate a class without a running back. Rule was the last recruit the Spartans had a real shot at, and unless things turn around dramatically for one of the remaining running backs MSU offered, things aren't looking bright for Smith. Four-star Brian Bonner, three-star Kyshawn Robinson, and three-star Ashton Rowden are the last three recruits that haven't committed. However, none of the running backs have Michigan State listed as one of their finalists. Unsurprisingly, Bonner's decision will be between more competitive schools compared to the Spartans. Right now, his top five include Penn State, Nebraska, UCLA, Washington, and Notre Dame. Robinson has yet to decide his group of finalists, but MSU is not high up on his 247Sports interests list. Rowden has a top four of Houston, Minnesota, Texas Tech, and TCU. It's a bump in the road considering how successful the month was for the Spartans in terms of recruitment. They recently picked up Tyren Wortham to complete a wide receiver duo in the batch. Without a running back, though, Smith might be forced to navigate flipping commitments and the transfer portal in the future. Three-Star Running Back Jamal Rule Puts Michigan State Football in His Top Four Ahead of His Commitment
Three-Star Running Back Jamal Rule Puts Michigan State Football in His Top Four Ahead of His Commitment originally appeared on Athlon Sports. June just keeps on giving to the Michigan State recruitment class of 2026, and the month isn't over yet. Advertisement A running back, who's set to visit East Lansing this weekend, has announced his final four schools he's considering committing to. Michigan State football head coach Jonathan King/Lansing State Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK Jamal Rule, a three-star running back from Charlotte Christian High School, became a late interest of the Spartans. Quickly, they set up an official visit with the rising senior to get him on campus during the last weekend of the OV season. Rule is the No. 776 overall recruit, No. 47 running back, and No. 33 student-athlete out of North Carolina. Though he was not on Michigan State's radar to begin with, the Spartans still made it into Rule's top four. Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Nebraska are the other teams head coach Jonathan Smith is up against. Advertisement In Nov. 2024, Nebraska extended an offer to the running back and continued to prioritize Rule since. Syracuse and Virginia Tech were also early to give him an offer. Still though, Rule did not rule the Spartans out despite being late to join the party with their June 9 offer. He teased on X that his commitment date is approaching soon, though he does not have an official date set for his announcement. It's important for Smith to land Rule as the current class of 2026 recruits lacks a running back. This should be a priority for the Spartans, and if they aren't Rule's choice, it will force them to scramble for another recruit. However, three-star running backs won't be available forever. MSU priority target, 3-star RB Jamal Rule to announce commitment 'soon'
MSU priority target, 3-star RB Jamal Rule to announce commitment 'soon' Michigan State football's top priority at running back announced on Thursday that he will be making his college decision "soon." Jamal Rule of Charlotte is nearing a decision with a commitment apparently coming very soon for him. Rule posted on social media X on Thursday that his decision will be coming soon but did not reveal an exact date or time for his planned commitment. Rule also revealed in the social media post that he will be deciding between Michigan State, Nebraska, Virginia Tech and Syracuse. Rule is a three-star running back in the 2026 class. He holds a recruiting rating of 87.26 and ranks as the No. 47 running back in 247Sports' composite rankings. Rule is set to take an official visit to Michigan State this upcoming weekend. It is the last of his scheduled official visits, with Rule already making stops at Nebraska, Virginia Tech and Syracuse over the last few weeks. Michigan State only recently entered the mix on Rule, offering him a scholarship last week. The Spartans, though, have quickly shot up his recruiting board and are firmly in the mix to land his commitment. He is the primary running back target for Michigan State at this point.
