79 railway employees felicitated with Rail Seva Purashkar
Patna: Railways felicitated 79 railway employees of Danapur division in East Central Railway (ECR) with 'Rail Seva Purashkar 2024' on the railway officers' club premises at Khagaul on Friday. These employees were honoured for their outstanding performance, commitment to duty, and exceptional service, besides ensuring smooth and safe operation of rail services in the division, said DRM Jayant Kumar Choudhary. Speaking on the occasion, the DRM commended the employees for their unwavering dedication and emphasised the importance of teamwork, discipline, and continuous improvement in the functioning of railways in the division. The event was attended by senior railway officials, employees, and union representatives who lauded the achievements of their colleagues and celebrated the spirit of public service. The 'Rail Seva Puraskar' is an annual recognition that aims to motivate railway personnel and promote a culture of excellence, accountability and innovation within the railways network, said a senior railway official.

25% surge in unreserved ticket sales in June: Rlys
1 2 3 4 5 6 Patna: An intensive ticket-checking drive conducted across the Danapur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) in June has begun to show results, leading to a 25% surge in ticket sales through the Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) in the month. According to Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary, the intensified ticket-checking drive conducted during June led to the penalisation of 51,644 passengers who were found travelling without valid tickets. The crackdown resulted in the collection of fines amounting to Rs 3.50 lakh, he said. "The objective behind the drive was not just to penalise offenders, but to instil a sense of responsibility among daily commuters and casual passengers. This has evidently led to an increase in the number of passengers purchasing proper tickets before boarding either long-distance or short-distance passenger trains in the division," the DRM said. Danapur senior divisional commercial manager (Senior DCM), Abhinav Siddarth, said on Monday the railways has already introduced the UTS mobile app and automatic ticket vending machines (ATVM) across major stations of the division to reduce congestion at general ticket booking counters. These digital facilities allow passengers to conveniently purchase unreserved tickets without standing in long queues, he said. Similar inspection drives will continue in the future, he said.

Danapur DRM takes out cycle rally for fitness awareness
Patna: Railway officials led by Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary took out a cycle rally as part of the ongoing 'Fit India Freedom Run' initiative at Khagaul on Sunday. The event which witnessed enthusiastic participation from railway officials, RPF personnel and local community, was aimed to create awareness about the importance of fitness for personal well-being and broader development of society. The cycle rally was kicked off on the DRM's office premises around 7am and terminated at Jagjiwan stadium at Khagaul . The cyclists pedalled through the railway colony and Danapur station areas. DRM said 'Fit India Freedom Run' was a nationwide initiative aimed at fostering a culture of physical fitness and a healthier life. Choudhary emphasised the vital role that fitness plays in shaping a strong, vibrant society. "A fit individual can contribute more creatively and constructively to the development of our nation", he said, adding the event was part of a broader effort to cultivate a mindset of wellness among railway employees and their families. According to Danapur senior divisional personnel officer Atul Kumar, the rally also underscored the importance of community involvement in the pursuit of health. As the cyclists rode through the railway colony, they engaged with local residents, urging them to adopt physical fitness routine to stay active and healthy, he said. In addition, railway officials and employees distributed pamphlets with information about simple daily exercises, the significance of balanced nutrition and tips for managing stress effectively. They also conducted brief sessions with children, young adults, and elderly, encouraging them to make fitness a fun and regular part of their routines, Danapur RPF senior commandant Prakash Kumar Panda said.

Demolition of century-old N C Ghosh Institute begins to make way for elevated road project
1 2 Patna: Demolition teams on Thursday razed a major portion of the 95-year-old N C Ghosh Institute, established in the pre-British era under the East India Railway (EIR) at Khagaul near Danapur station, to make way for the upcoming Khagaul-Bihta elevated road project. The institute served as a focal point for community gatherings, indoor games and festive events. Known especially for hosting grand Anglo-Indian Christmas celebrations in its heyday, the institute held deep cultural and historical significance for the local populace, said an old timer Alok Das. However, as urban infrastructure expands to meet growing demands, the heritage structure was identified as a major obstruction along the alignment of the elevated corridor. In a bid to balance development with cultural continuity, the railways has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art facility little distance away from the existing institute on a vacant land in the railway colony area. "The govt has already disbursed compensation for the acquisition of land. The new facility is expected to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore for which tenders are being floated and work is expected to commence soon after the bidding process is complete," DRM said, adding the new multipurpose hall which will be completed in two years from now, aims to continue the legacy of the N C Ghosh Institute by offering an upgraded venue for cultural events, community programme and indoor activities, preserving its spirit in a modern avatar. Locals, mostly theatre artists like Sudhir Madhukar and Nawab Alam, have expressed mixed reactions while some lament the loss of a historic landmark, others welcomed the prospect of improved infrastructure and recreational facilities in the area. Railways observes environment day with eco-friendly steps
Patna: Railways on Thursday observed with commitment to protect the environment. On this occasion, a series of activities aimed at promoting eco-consciousness and sustainable living among its employees and common people were organised.
